Amber is PURE wine aunt energy, which is honestly such an interesting yet realistic take on Persephone - this is supposed to be many, many years after she married Hades and therefore, she's not the same wide-eyed, happy newlywed she used to be. She's way more mature, she's darker, and Amber nails it. Eva makes a perfect Eurydice too - she looks so sweet and innocent, which I believe is important even later on the show, when she crosses over to the wrong side of the tracks. All in all, I'm LIVING for this cast!
@@gacha_gurl0782 yes!! I love love love Patrick as Hades, from the beginning when I first listened to the original cast recording. As much as I hate the whole 'evil Hades' trope, Patrick delivers that attitude with a little twist of neutrality - what he does is mostly what he _needs_ to do. It does help too that Patrick has such big dad energy.
Amber Gray's face is so wonderful. Just- even from the very beginning she's so annoyed already. She looks at Hermes with this expression of pure, "you can't do this to me."
I saw it and was lucky enough to get the full OG cast and Amber does the exact same things from the facial expressions to the bending over and singing like that for a little bit. She’s just SO amazing and Patrick is a whole ‘nother story. They’re both so amazing and I’m so excited they kept them around for the Origional Broadway Cast too.
That's what I like to see! Good acting and singing is one thing, but It's so refreshing to see actors enjoying themselves, even at the cost of breaking character a bit.
4:08 freaking kills me with how perfect it is. Eva's voice is so beautiful I'm sobbing. Amber and Patrick's reactions to that line have me SCREECHING. Patrick is so perfect for Hades I can't even deal. Amber won the Tony the second she opened her mouth (heck she won it the second she walked on stage). These Fates are giving me so much life with their sassiness. This show is everything I've ever wanted tbh and I cannot believe I get to see it on Broadway in July with the original cast.
The moments where Amber deserves the Tony are not the parts where she sings or speaks. Are actually the parts where she reacts at the other characters' plot developments. Her expressions are incredible/heartbreaking. You need to see this show from the first few rows.
@@adreasdegrecia I'm seeing it from row K rip. I can't believe I didn't pay more to get closer seats I'm so stupid. I reckon I should go see it again with closer seats
It's not bad at all since you'll get to appreciate the full staging and the revolve. But YES you need to see it again, one time is not enough. It will be over before you know it 😝@@stephpiano2908
Saw it Last night from third row and am going to Box office today so I can see it again.. Amazing original work and a breath of fresh air on Broadway!!@@adreasdegrecia
Hades’ entrance is phenomenal and I love the way that Patrick and Amber look at Eva and they go from like disapproving/interested and “who are you” to breaking into those huge smiles (4:16). Also, the cast looks so happy to be there so that definitely adds to how amazing this performance is!
okay everyone's talking about eva and amber, which is very valid, but what about andre and his amazing facial expressions? he's having so much fun and i love it.
can i just say i absolutely love reeve and eva's acting at the very end when they break into the last chorus?? eurydice is singing along, super into it and looking at orpheus like 'hey, cmon, join us!' while orpheus is super hesitant and nervous and clutching eurydice close to him bc he knows something's wrong... Talent tm
@@addym5712 it’s quite noticeable that anytime reeve is performing anything hadestown related, he’s in character. especially noticeable in the tiny desk concert performance. reeve normally doesn’t act like how orpheus does (shy, nervous, fidgety, distracted), so even though him and eva are dating, reeve seems to push the “stay in character” agenda.
Hadestown, I have both the concept album and the live recording. Tell Hades I will pay whatever needs to be paid to get my hands on an official Broadway cast album. Edit: Citizens of Hadestown, they have heard us!! :D JUNE 7, mark ya calendars for the official Broadway recording!!!
Saw this last night on Broadway, and I'm still skipping around singing this song!! Didn't realize until last night that Amber has serious Eartha Kitt vibes.
Check out the live rendition of Hadestown, has a different tone with a different Heremes Orpheus and Eyuridice. I honestly feel the Hermes in the live recording is better as well.
Here are my top two. Beetleejuice (it is such a fun show. From what I listened to, and what performances I could watch) and Hadestown (also fun, but has a bit more depth from what i could see.)
Abigail Burke same ._. I feel bad for saying it cause I love Andre! But it just had such a nice, dramatic dynamic of Orpheus telling Eurydice HIMSELF how awful Hades is and her then leaving him still. 😂
Katelyn O'Hare I mean it seems like Orpheus Spends lots of Time with Persephone? And she seems bummed about Hadestown all the time? If it means more Dynamic between Characters one can always find an excuse 😂
This genuinely might be my favorite video on the internet. I love every frame of it. Andre and Amber tearing it up with their dances, Patrick singing along in the background, the Fates hitting my gay little heart like a Fat Man, the guy who sings "They come from"
I love how with this musical it's all like jazzy and sorta in this tone and the cast even dance and make the showing there so fun since they clearly are all having fun.
I love how Amber portrays Persephone. She definitly took her flaws and accepted those (in both her acting and singing, its both really raw). Its so easy with a character like Persephone to act like its expected to (cutesy, happy etc) but she certainly got her own touch on the character
When I went to see Hadestown the show was delayed about 10 minutes (after the cast had come on stage btw) because this lady‘s phone went off because she forgot to turn it off. Also this guy stole my seat because he thought it was his and I had to stand up until the first song was over and then security yelled at him because I was in the right seat and a bunch of people down the row didn’t move down a seat. Andre DeShields was glaring in my general direction for about five minutes and I was so terrified for my life... I did stage door when the show is over and I did not get to meet Andre DeShields or Amber but I did meet Reeve Carney and the fates so that was really cool!
