What makes this song so haunting? All of us wish to have adventure in our lives. To travel across this vast world that stretches far beyond our humble backyards and front lawns, and visit all the many unique and wonderful places that we've yet to see with our own eyes: The Grand Canyon, New York City and the Statue of Liberty, The Rocky Mountains, Mount Rushmore, the Pyramids of Egypt, the Great Wall of China, the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy, the Tahj Mahal monument in India, the untamed Amazon Rainforest, the Wild African Savanna, the Louvre Art Gallery in France, the Big Ben Clock Tower and Royal Palace of England, the Australian Outback, the ancient Aztec Ruins of South America, and so much more! But, as we all know, traveling also comes with much risk and distance. Without careful and extensive research, planning, and preparation, there's no telling when (or even if) you'll return home to your friends and family. It's a good thing that Mole was able to stop Rat in time, or who knows what might've happened to him.
Ratty's conflict in this is soo strong and sad. As a kid had a sense of melancholy but never realized how deep WnW could be, well for a kids program anyway
This episode is the only episode in television that has stuck with me for 25 + years. When I saw it for the first time, I wanted to shut it off. So out of character for WITW. They literally took something as simple as animal migration and made it into something dark, haunting, and sad. Gives me chills each time I think about it. These things stick with you for some reason.
Have you seen the last one about Pan and Portly called The Piper at the gates of Dawn- thats what the title is all about Wind in the WIllows is his voice- its an esoteric connection
@@minicle426 I think you are the right person to ask this (not even ChatGPT knew how to answer me). The stop motion movie is based on the book, but the series has other different stories? thank you!
This is such a sad moment... It's Rat's brother, urging him to come out and live life at sea with him. While they share a love for sailing, Rat is content to never go too far and stick with one vessel. His brother wants constant change, and you can see how it tears Rat up. He wants to see his brother, but he doesn't want to just give up what he has. He brother even turns to see if Rat is following... Man... It's just so sad...
FWIW, he's not actually Ratty's brother. He's a stranger who happens to be passing, and he addresses Ratty as "brother" in the sense of "kindred spirit".
Thank you! I have now seen the complete episode, and this Sailor Rat worked some charm on him. It was still sad and strange to see Rat so torn up about taking on the sailing life and he almost went through it. I think the sailor, despite his charming speech was actually lonely and saw a kindred spirit in Ratty as you pointed out.
Back when television and music evoked the same ineffable qualities of history's greatest literature. Don't even get me started on the "content" of today.......
This song appeared in the episode 'Wayfarers All', which was adapted from one of the chapters in the original book that was left out of this same studio's film adaptation.
