Chapeau! Great performance! So pure and vibrating, just love it. Only topped by the version of Southern raised. The latter one was the first version I discovered while coughing out my lungs after infection with the Covid19-Virus. This song gave me a deep joy expecting to go over Jordan in a few weeks... Against my expectation, thank God, I survived, probably due to the prayers of my wife (who prohibited me to command a modest simple zinccan for my burial, cuz if I would survive, we would have this zinccoffin wasting place in our cellar, she was definitely more hopefull than I was and she was right...). "Sei schlau, hör auf Deine Frau!" is a german proverb. So I did and as an act of belief to my Saviour Yeshoua Ha Mashiakh I renounced to order a zinccoffin, I indeed survived and was happy about it. But not for long: Just one week after my recovering from Covid19 (which became Post-Covid) Vladimir Vladimirovitsh sent his troops towards Kiev and 4 hours later he declared war to Ukraine early in the morning... Honestly at these news I asked myself if it wouldn't have been better going over Jordan before the 24th of February than to become a testimony in this time for such brutal methods of warfare not better than the Tenno or Admiral Yamamoto were. The worst is I know a few ukrinians and I also have rediscovered an old russian correspondence-girlfriend (from sovyetic times). I like the ladies from both sides. I cannot decide to hate the ones or the others. But i cannot stay neutral either. Even Switzerland has given up neutrality in front of these atrocities of warcrimes the russian troops have committed. Still knowing that russian Baboushkas love their kids an their grandkids too, quite as the ukrainian Moms do, I am sitting inbetween two chairs which both are not comfortable. I don't wanna hate, I refuse to give in into that temptation, but honestly I pray and hope that Vladimir Vladimirovitsh will be replaced soon by someone who is not illminded... Still this song gives me the hope, that (apart of that to die from a russian bullet under my helmet, losing cinscience immediately, goes much quicker than to cough out my lungs full of a virus in full conscience and feeling all that pain in my chest and my back) even if we have to loose our lifes in our attempts to defend ourselves against the russian troops, we will be happy in the arms of our Saviour Yeshoua. Baroukh Ha ba be Shem Adonayi !

I’m just a poor wayfaring stranger, I’m trav’ling through this world below; There is no sickness, toil, nor danger, In that bright world to which I go. I’m going there to see my father, I’m going there no more to roam; I’m just a going over Jordan, I’m just a going over home. I know dark clouds will gather o’er me, I know my pathway’s rough and steep; But lovely fields lie just beyound me, Where weary eyes no more shall weep. I’m going there to meet my brother, They passed before me one by one; I’m just a going over Jordan, I’m just a going over home.

I don’t know how I ended up on this part of RU-vid but I’m glad I did. I just watched an hours worth of this channel and have learned so much about American folk. Thanks for posting.

Dear Tracy! Such a beautiful voice! It just brings back the time when my eyes and ears open to the world of American folk music. One of the first song was this one, touched my soul deeply behind the Iron Curtain in 1974 in Hungary. Congratulation again, Imre

@@tracynewman3256 Yours is the best version of that song that Ive heard. I'm an ok player but I'm not very good at getting things purely by ear..PLEASE could you post the tab of your way of doing it? I know its a big ask, but PLEASE could you? Am loving all your PBS performances and your way of introducing the songs and instruments🙂❤

@@tracynewman3256 I am really grateful to you for responding either way so please don't take this as ingratitude but it was the arpeggio that I was having trouble with not the chords, I could pretty much see the chords in the video but I'm having trouble figuring out your way of doing it, I also really want to learn "I'm a stranger here" I know its a fairly standard blues chord progression but the fingerstyle you use and the picking pattern, Thats I why I said its a big ask though cause posting detailed tab would be a hassle...But thank you very much for sending me the chords and for responding so quickly and for taking the trouble, Take care, thanks again.

@@rlawrence9838 Oh! You're right. I did misunderstand, and yes, you can see clearly what the chords are! Unfortunately, I couldn't begin to explain what my right hand is doing. I learned how to play when I was 14, and I just kind of did it on my own, if you know what I mean. I played the way I thought everyone was playing. Sorry!
