Discover how Bee Wayfinders are made! Maddi dips one end in vibrant paints-blue, green, orange, and yellow-letting the paint drip down to create beautiful visual cues.
Bees use visual markers to orient themselves to their nests. After emerging, female Summer Leaf bees take an orientation flight to learn the area and select a nesting site. They memorize the location by flying in a zigzag pattern in front of the nest entrance.
Traditional bee houses with identical nesting holes can confuse bees, leading them to nest elsewhere. To help, we use reeds with natural size variations and char the fronts of our wood trays for a unique look.
Bee Wayfinders add extra visual hints, making it easier for bees to locate their nests. Bees see in UV light, blue, and green but can't see red. They can see yellow and orange, so each Wayfinder is a bold color that bees can easily spot.
Watch Maddi's simple process and learn how we make our products functional and bee-friendly, helping our pollinators thrive.
