You can definitely tell who his Granddaddy is, with looks and his voice. Waylon is one of the all time greats, he's on the Mt Rushmore of country singers in my opinion. His Grandson is dang good, and would love to hear him on the radio, instead of some of the crap they call country music today that's on the radio.

Whey really does sound more like Waylon than anyone else I've heard. I love his voice, and I like this rendition of the song. "Lonesome, On'ry and Mean" has good bones, and Whey stays in mostly familiar territory without imitating his grandpa. Waylon would surely want Whey to grow into his own voice, literally and figuratively. I noticed the grit he's developed in those vocal chords. He can run with the big dogs. Let me throw some appreciation to the instrumentalists here, too. The guitarist has a Blues vibe that I think is great. Again, there's no attempt to imitate Waylon's guitar, but a picker this solid doesn't need to. The song rocks, with good Country soul. Thank God for sending us another voice this good, and help Whey make the most of it.

'Sounds something like Waylon. I'd rather hear a lead player that's not trying to play every run he knows....more like Waylon's pickin'; laid back and fits the song. Waylon was born only fours years before I was and I learned early on to love his simplistic sounding , but nonetheless great pickin' style. The lead work and the song seemed to be born at the same time. 'Miss you, big man.

Wouldn't be so obvious if they had an extra guitar playing rythm. Overall, props to the band and guitar player for changing it up a little and putting their own spin on it ( over playing every run ) but, with an extra rythm player I think it would give em some depth and sound a little better. Not knocking them at all though, do what makes em happy and looks like that's what they're doing.

@@michael61985 in my humble opinion I am missing the main riff of this song because there is only the one guitar player. The steel guitar part was also huge in this song. It’s my favorite Waylon song so I should probably just stick to enjoying the original. Another thing that will probably get me into trouble (but oh well), I actually prefer Whey as a singer to his Uncle Shooter.
