EXCITEMENT BUILDS FOR THE RELEASE OF
GOIN' DOWN ROCKIN':
The Last Recordings of Waylon Jennings
COUNTRY SUPERSTARS
ROSANNE CASH AND KRIS KRISTOFFERSON
RAVE ABOUT THE COLLECTION
DUE SEPTEMBER 2012
ON SAGUARO ROAD RECORDS
Nashville, TN (May 31, 2012) --- One of Nashville's most anticipated albums continues to build a heady buzz as early tracks from Goin' Down Rockin': The Last Recordings of Waylon Jennings are previewed to longtime friends and fans of the outlaw country legend. The songs have been met with bittersweet excitement and warmly embraced by those who knew him best. Recorded shortly before his death in 2002, Goin' Down Rockin' will be available on September 11 (Saguaro Road Records).
Rosanne Cash marveled, "There was never an artist like Waylon Jennings. It's such a joy to hear his honest voice, his integrity and his quintessential badassness on this new record. What a great thing for posterity that these recordings exist and were finished by Robby Turner with such care and honor." Kris Kristofferson, who toured alongside Jennings in the Highwaymen, added, "The pure beauty of Waylon's voice - unlike any other I ever heard - has the powerful honesty and heart of the man himself. Like his outlaw companions Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash, they broke the mold when they made him. I do believe 'I Do Believe' is the only one of these I've heard before, and I could listen to it forever."
Jennings wrote 11 of the 12 songs on Goin' Down Rockin', 11 of which have never been released before. He recorded them with his accompanist Robby Turner, but died before they could be completed. A decade later, Turner painstakingly finished the tracks to Jennings' specifications, working with musicians such as Reggie Young, Richie Albright and tour mate Tony Joe White.
One of the all time greatest country music vocalists, Jennings was also the founder of the Outlaw movement, received two Grammy Awards, and multiple Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music awards. 11 of his albums hit #1 on the country charts, with 16 #1 singles. In all, 54 of Jennings' albums have charted and more than 100 singles cracked the country and pop charts. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001.

I cried for three days solid after Waylon passed away. Strangely, at first I couldn't listen to him, it was just too painful. Listening to him and knowing he was gone was like a knife in the heart. Now of course, time has healed and I get great joy from his music once again. And RU-vid is wonderful because there are hundreds of videos I would never have seen even 20 years ago.

Waylon was the real deal....I met him about 28 years ago. It went like this.. He walked up to me & said how are you little girl? (I was 25) He extended his hand, I was sooo nervous & the only thing I could say was, " I'm fine Mr. Jennings." He then tipped his hat & said, "The name's Waylon!" So from that day on, I say, "Name's Peggy", When someone calls me Ms. Hill or Ma'am. Godspeed to you & Love to The Highway Men!!!

Just like to add that the guy playing the steel is the great Robby Turner, Waylon's steel guitar player and producer in the last years of Waylon's career. This recording was done in Robby's studio and was produced by Robby. As a side-note Robby is the son of Hank William's first band members, his father played steel and his mother played rhythm guitar for Hank Williams Sr. I believe that Robby captures Waylon's greatness like nobody else has.

Waylon Jennings was on the road for a couple of months and he wound up doing a gig on one of the big reserves. The native American people just loved Waylon. He seemed to have a special connection with the many tribes. Now, one night after the concert a native American couple managed to get back stage somehow. It may have been due to the fact that the native gentleman (who also happened to be about 6'5" inches tall, as well as close to 275lbs.. I should also mention that the couple were obviously half in the bag! When the man saw Waylon, he said "Hello Waylon. My wife just would really love to get her picture taken with you. Hey, Waylon, would you be able to do that for her. It's our anniversary and I brought her to see you for a surprise present. Of course Waylon said he would love to take a picture with her. Oh thank you Waylon. Hey Waylon? "Yes", Waylon said. The native looked at Waylon and then said, "hey Waylon, do you have a camera? I laughed so hard when I first heard that that I almost pissed myself! To this day it puts me in a laughing fit! Cheers

i have been a johnny cash fan all my life and only in the past five years discovered waylon. my loss this man is one of the greatest singers ever. all the years i maybe could of seen him live and the songs i have missed really get to me. but i am slowly getting all his music. waylon and johnny were beyond doubt the finest ever. and i know they are singing in heaven because thats the only place good enough for singers like this

Waylon suffered at the hands of Nashville for wanting to do his music his way. It caused him years of grief.

Just a beautiful song. Although entitled to their opinion, there are at least 59 people who know nothing about music. He had this on his 1977 Ole Waylon album, and I enjoyed it then, but somehow I liked this one even more. Just about perfect.

I was thinking this was Tony Joe Whites song, He was the first I heard sing it, Tony's was more electric guitar up front than Waylon's version, more up tempo to, Waylon's instruments are softer and Waylon's voice is out front, I love Tony's deep lo gator growl he had, But this is a soul much better version of this song , Tony's best recorded version of RAINY NIGHT IN GEORGIA , is a live version of Tony in Germany Playing on that famous pink guitar ! It's on YT, sorry got off track, I even think I saw Waylon and Tony doing this song together a while back ! Waylon and the rest of the guys knocked this out of the park , there's not a flaw in it anywhere ,! I hope that jessi has a big box of tapes of Waylon that he never released for whatever reason so we can hear some new sounds from waylon ever now and àgain ! Was listening to Waylon's grandson, Whey Jennings you can hear his grandpa's voice when he sings !

@@burlpage5260 Yes, he did record it first and he wrote it. I think I had a different song in mind above. But I loved Waylon's version on the Last Recordings. (Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood also recorded this).

Waylon was one of the many old country singers, (the so-called old guard) there are new country singers in contemporary country music that is created but not fixed at the past. the contemporary country music (with a few exceptions) know as for me the garbage in.

by complete accident...one of the best musical talents to ever play grace us with his voice. 1 act of kindness giving up his seat on an airplane saved his life. I grew up listening to willie, Waylon, jones, haggard, and many more. Got to my rebellion years and moved away from this now that im almost 40 I've come back to it I wish I would of done it sooner so I could of seen him live. RIP Waylon your music will live on my kids hear it everyday and sing along with me.....we miss you!!

Both waylon and willie have done so much for country music, music in general. The artists wouldn't have the freedom to record whatever rhey want if it wasnt for waylon and willie. And its anoying that none if the so calles singers now a days dont realise that. R.I.P Waylon
