listen. i saw this nowhere on youtube and i loved this scene so i’m putting it on here for me. and for you, if you’re also a stan. hope mommy susan doesn’t take it down.
I wept at this part. And I’m crying now. His voice when he says “All day, I don’t know what the heck is going on. But somehow I feel like it’s all my fault.” I gasped and my heart broke. I feel that so much.
FYI… you’re not alone. This movie is incredible and it has quickly become really important to me. Waymond is one of the most refreshing and wonderful characters, I love him so much, I’m so glad he is who he is! He inspires me to ease off on myself and be kind not just to the ppl around me, but also to myself.
Finally got to watch this film yesterday. Waymind's be kind speech will be my mantra. Mother and daughter scene at the end of the film did me in. Sat in my car in the parking lot and cried my eyes out.
What I love about this scene is there are two Waymonds here talking at the same time; vastly different in experience, confidence, success, calmness, eloquence, sophistication, and naivete. But at the core of them, they have the same philosophy, and they attempted to explain it in their distinct ways. And they are right. The key to a good life is to, above all, be kind.
You think I'm weak, don't you? All those years ago when we first fell in love... your father would say I was too sweet for my own good. Maybe he was right. You tell me that it's a cruel world... and we're all just running around in circles. I know that. I've been on this earth just as many days as you. When I choose to see the good side of things, I'm not being naive It is strategic and necessary. It's how I've learned to survive through everything. I know you see yourself as a fighter. Well, I see myself as one too. This is how I fight.
I think the only awards he hasn't won this season are ones where the award is combined with best actor (he's even won some of those) and ones where the entire cast was nominated as an ensemble.
There are a lot of Waymonds in this world But unfortunately they are also seen as silly or fools And i think that everything has evolved to not allow people like this to feel secure to be themselves, as if they *must* be anything else but this. Pretty much like the world calling them "weak" for being kind and caring for someone else Which makes Waymond's speech hit much harder
Watched this tonight and immediately saw waymond in my husband. I have criticized him before for constantly seeing the cup half full side of things. I saw it as naive and avoidant but after seeing this I realize he sees it as necessary and how the way he deals with adversity helps me. I couldn't believe how much this movie has made me think about my life 😅
"When i choose to see the good side of things, i'm not being naive. It is strategic and necessary. It's how i've learned to survive trough everything." Hands down one of my favourite monologues ever and my favourite part in the whole movie.
"Be kind" may be a very corny and cheesey line, but actually when you understand why Waymond is saying it, it makes perfect sense. In the universe where Waymond is a successful businessman, he explains that being kind is actually strategic. In a cruel world, we need to solve differences and misunderstandings through kindness and not through fighting. Kindness more often than not accomplishes more than using hate and aggression. In the main universe that we are following, we see how Waymond saves his marriage and his family business by simply being kind. He explains to the auditor what they are going through, and we do see that the auditor is not really heartless. She too is capable of compassion. Waymond becomes Evelyn's source of enlightenment through his kindness
That's a good perspective on it. My dad was a very successful salesman his whole life, and I think his success had a lot to do with the fact that he was a kind, genuine, trustworthy person. That approach to the job made him stand out so much that when he died, condolences poured in from all over the country from people who had done business with him before he retired and still remembered what a great man and friend he was.
@@sagemaster1357 yes! This! Kindness and empathy are the two most powerful emotions humans have. We've been taught to go against them for generations. Humans are re-learning how to feel again.
The waymond we start off with is my favorite waymond because of this scene. From his perspective, his day starts off with him losing chunks of time that he probably sees as blackouts, has to fight for his business to not go under, suddenly his wife is a ninja whose fighting people, his father in law is trying to kill him, his daughter blinks in and out of reality, said wife dies then comes back to life and stabs him, and in the span of like 6 hours his life is completely turned upside down. And even though he wants to divorce her, after she just stabbed him he protects his wife from her assailants. Every waymond we meet is shown to be genuinely kind regardless of his life path. But this waymond to me, is the kindest.
He actually doesn’t want to divorce her, it was supposed to be a focusing mechanism that a friend from church recommended him to use to reframe and bring focus to repairing their relationship. He explained it in the car. Waymond is great through and through
I hadn't considered what the day really looked like from his perspective, thanks for bringing attention to how bewildering and terrifying his last few hours had been when he made this speech. It's a marvel that not only did he remain kind, he somehow didn't completely lose his marbles.
This is the scene on why Ke Hu Quan is going to win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. His speech about kindness is something the world needs to listen to, especially during a time of great division, hatred, and personal hardships. The speech wouldn’t be this profound without Ke Hu Quan’s performance!
“Somehow I feel like it’s all my fault” such a cutting depiction of depression in the modern age. The weight of the world, now more than ever, is on all our shoulders constantly, but being able to pull back from that immensity and be present and kind with the people you love is all that’s ever needed to lift that weight completely.
The phrase "wronglife cannot be lived rightly" from Adorno is something that I think about a lot. And even if it's true, then I'd rather live kindly than rightly.
I think I'm physically unable to go through this scene without crying because I relate to this so much. Seeing kindness and the desire to be kind to others on screen as a way or fighting and not as a weakness it's so beautiful.
I love this monologue because I´m not like him, my anxiety and depression often makes me see the world in a very bad light... But my father is very much like his character, sees the good in people and is a very kind guy, and I wish I was more like him.
Just give this film everything. Best Picture, Best Directors, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing. JUST TAKE IT ALL 😭!!!
"Please be kind" Its such a simple truth. Something we all learned when were small. Life is hard and it weighs on all of us, but I still have to ask myself, how could we have forgotten something so simple? So important? I was overwhelmed by emotion when I realized I had forgotten to be kind in my life, it used to be so important to me. But its important to me again because of this beaufiul film
This guy really spoke the truth which is what I do in life. I always don’t physically show it but I know that in the end by doing the bare minimum is good enough to put the ones closest to me with a smile.
I relate so much with Waymond. If we only choose to see the bad in ourselves and others, then we have no hope. Without love, forgiveness, and acceptance, life has no meaning.
That is such an important message. American culture often promotes violence and aggression as a way of dealing with threats which I find dangerous and toxic. (Spiderman brutally gets revenge on the school bully through violence and aggression) When in fact in this world the lovers always win.
Given that the majority of people only know the movies and I'm not too well read in the comic-books, I'll use examples from the movies to ask you what kind of horseshit spews from your mouth on a daily basis. Sam Raimi's Spider-Man with Toby Maguire: After accidentally embarrassing his school bully with his not yet under control powers. Peter Parker is ambushed by Flash Thompson as Flash attempted to punch him from behind, trying to beat Peter's face into his own locker. Flash is the violent aggressor. Peter then uses his powers to humiliate Flash by avoiding his additional attempts to beat Peter into submission to assert his physical dominance. Flash continued his attempts to put his long-time bullying victim in his place, under Flash's boot, only for Peter to block and strike precisely once, using more force than intended, almost killing Flash. Spider-Man specifically goes out of his way to not kill, it's against all his principals to take the life of another person. He almost killed Flash, so he can't use his unrestrained strength on another human being. He did not get revenge on Flash, he defended himself. If Peter had no powers, Flash would have left him on the floor bleeding out of all orifices on his head, several broken ribs and a dislocated arm. The Amazing Spider-Man with Andrew Garfield: Flash beat up a powerless Peter Parker, because he refused to memorialized Flash bullying another, younger student with his dad's camera. Again, Flash started it, only this time Flash was successful in breaking Peter's bones. Later in the same movie, Flash Thompson tackles another basketball player to the ground and knocks the ball into a paint bucket causing it to tip over and ruin the work of a small female student. Flash then threatens violence on her and intentionally throws the basketball at her intending to both hurt and humiliate her. Because as the main school bully, it is his divine right to be able to hurt anyone he wants, right? Right? Right? Well, Peter, using his new powers, caught the ball just before it hit the girl. When ordered to give the school bully the ball like a good little underling, Peter instead uses his powers to make Flash dance and look like a silly bastard. Then he joins in the basketball game for a single slam dunk, gives Flash a taste of his aggressive playstyle by body checking him to prove Flash can't stop him anymore and humiliates Flash by scoring a slam dunk. No violence from Peter. The only time Peter Parker shows any unprovoked aggressive behaviour or violence toward Flash Thompson, is in The Amazing Spider-Man, after the death of Uncle Ben. Flash offers his condolences, but Peter misunderstands Flash's intentions given their history and pins Flash to a locker. He releases Flash and they have an uneasy but mutual respect for each other. MCU with Boy McChildface: Flash is a fucking nerd. Peter is more physically imposing than Flash Thompson, with or without powers. Peter without powers, could pick up that little runt and throw him across Time Square. If Peter with powers tried fighting Flash in this state, he'd disintegrate the weaselly little bastard. So no intentional violence directed at Flash from Peter. He does accidentally set a murderbot on Flash, through a combination of ignorance and carelessness, but it's an accident. Accidents are unintentional and should not have malicious intent ascribed to them, especially when the person who made the offending mistake atones for it. You vicious psychopathic monsters, you have unintentionally hurt people throughout your lives. If you keep harping on about making the world a better place, while simultaneously blaming people for their every mistake and withholding any path to redemption. Then you have to support jumping off a bridge in order to not be seen as a malicious sadistic hypocrite who seeks to punish others for the crime of existing. To which, I support you doing a flip.
I think it’s a message that the whole world needs to listen to, especially during a time of great division, animosity, and personal hardships. Don’t let the feelings of pain overpower the feelings of kindness.
this speech is so beautifully written but the way ke huy quan performs it just pushes it over the edge. what a wonderful man and incredible actor. he truly deserves every single accolade he's received and i hope he continues to find immense success
Oh man. This move will forever be imprinted on me. I felt ripped open and put back together. Rearranged. This scene, broke me. And I didn't expect it. I cried. I released. I felt the depths of myself I forgot about. Forever grateful for this film
As some who has been Waymond my whole life, as someone who uses kindness as a weapon rather than cruelty or insults... I'm glad to finally see a film that calls out society's bullshit logic that being kind is a sign of weakness.
As soon as he said, "Can we just stop fighting?" is when the tears started falling for me and they did not stop until after the movie was over, and that was just the START of this incredible monologue! It all just resonated with me all too perfectly and the way he delivers these lines is just soul piercing. This has easily been cemented as my favorite movie of all time.
I've been through a lot of shit and suffered a lot of roadblocks to happiness due to things like mental illness and grief, but both of Waymond's speeches always touch my heart because no matter how bad things got I've never ever been able to totally lose hope that things can get better, and I try really hard to be there for others when they need me. Being optimistic and kind to others is sometimes all I have.
When he talks about kindness being strategic and necessary, god that’s so true. You always hear about kindness being naive and weak. It isn’t. It can work.
This is why Ke Huy Quan won an Oscar. If you need any convincing Watch This Scene. Businessman Waymond delivers a powerful monologue that is just beautiful and Normal Waymond breaking down and asking for kindness is just so beautiful
I think this is THE message of our current time. "Be Kind." There is so much evil in the world but it stems from us. Be kind to each other and love your neighbor as you would love your own children/family.
I think the next part of the scene is just as important. Throughout the beginning of the film we see Evelyn pretty much ignore Waymond. It's almost like he's just there. When she meets Alpha Waymond she immediately falls in love with him because he's everything she doesn't get to experience in her own marriage. He's assertive, he's confident, he's a bad ass, he makes her feel important. But then he abandons her the INSTANT things don't go the right way. He solves nothing and won't even try to push through difficulties. After the moment in this video, she realizes how much her Waymond does for her. Whenever there's a customer complaint, he's the one to fix it. Whenever they might run foul of the accountant, he engages with her to get them through. Whenever their daughter needed them, he tried to be there. When her father needed to stay with them, he helped take care (Waymond is always the one to push the wheelchair). Her Waymond wasn't unassertive, he was supportive. He wasn't unconfident, he knew doing kind things would often get them what they needed. He wasn't not a bad ass, he just used a different weapon namely kindness. And to him, Evelyn is the most important being in the world. That's why he's willing to go to such an extreme as divorce to get her to notice that they can fix things TOGETHER. He doesn't want to leave her.
Coming back to this part, this quote has stuck to me, especially in this political climate, social media and the world in general. Why do we need to divide each other and separate from each other's communities, just because we're different and has different world views? Why do we have to immediately hate on one another, without even reaching to an understanding first? Life fucking sucks. It constantly tries to beat us down. But we can at least make it a little less crappy.
