Wayne Gretzky RC in this Pack of 1979-80 Topps Hockey?!?!

Sadly that pack WAS resealed. The bottom left was WAY too stuck. True packs will have 2 wax lines in the middle for the rollers. And 99% of well stored legit packs will open with a nice "pop".

I strongly believe this pack was searched and then repacked. How do I know? Above the sticker you pulled 3 cards from sheet 2 and 2 cards from sheet 1. Below the sticker you pulled 4 cards from sheet 2 and 1 card from sheet 1. What’s the problem you ask? It’s my experience that sheet 1 and sheet 2 cards are not mixed above and below the sticker. In other words, the 5 cards above the sticker should be either all from sheet 1 or all from sheet 2. And that holds true for the 5 cards below the sticker, either all are from sheet 1 or all are from sheet 2. Further, both Ron Sedlbaur and Willie Huber are indicator cards for Wayne Gretzky, one of them Was above the sticker and one was below the sticker, again, unless a packing error occurred at the Topps factory, this wouldn’t happen. Also, if you got 2 Wayne Gretzky indicator cards in the same pack and didn’t pull Gretzy then this is a red flag as well.

Usually the gum is plastered onto a card 🤔 I feel like this pack was searched. Thanks for the rip though buddy, enjoyed it regardless.

Sorry for the whammy pack! I just opened a 75 topps baseball and got skunked! It's all about the journey and excitement opening the unknown. Thanks for sharing!

Cool break. I remember cracking a couple boxes of this as a kid. Hit a bunch of Gretzkys. We played all the games, topsies, flipsys etc. Who knew 40yrs later the worth. My brother found my stash I forgot about and sold them. He's been slowly making it up to me but no beater Gretzky yet 🙂

Opportunity lost. So many interesting players you could learn about and teach some hockey history

Buying unopened hockey card packs is like buying lottery tickets. Here's a riddle for you. What does LOTTO stand for? Lose Often To terrible Odds.

Nobody with a single pack of 79-80 is not going to go through it and look for Gretzky’s rookie before re-sealing it and selling. I know I wouldn’t. Just the thought of hitting a PSA 10 is too tempting.

so the first card you flipped over was card #19 the one with wax on it. Gretzky is card #18 in that set. What are the chances omg as there is 264 cards in that set

How do you know it was unopened ? Somebody could've opened it and then just resealed it. I would be too worried about it to buy an unopened pack at those prices. Especially that year. It's Gretzky or bust

Just buy a mid grade Gretzky at a card show.Saves you wasting your money on resealed packs.The Howe,Hull or Dryden’s last card might be worth $20.

Wax sealed packs are so easily opened and resealed, I would never spend $100 on one.
