Garth (Dana Carvey) plays a wicked drum solo at the Guitar Store.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based on the Saturday Night Live sketch of the same name, Wayne's World is a wacky, irreverent pop-culture comedy about the adventures of two amiably aimless metal-head friends, Wayne (Mike Myers) and Garth (Dana Carvey). From Wayne's basement, the pair broadcast a talk-show called "Wayne's World" on local public access television. The show comes to the attention of a sleazy network executive (Rob Lowe) who wants to produce a big-budget version of "Wayne's World"--and he also wants Wayne's girlfriend, a rock singer named Cassandra (Tia Carrere). Wayne and Garth have to battle the executive not only to save their show, but also Cassandra. Director Penelope Spheeris, Myers and Carvey hang a lot of silly, but funny, jokes on this thin plot, and the energy of the cast--as well as the wild pop-culture references--make Wayne's World a cut above the average Saturday Night Live spin-off movie.

I’ve gone into a music store once, got denied on stairway on guitar said ok I’d like to look at this Roland R-Drum kit you have here...and I played Stairway on it, they kicked me out afterwards....was told never to come back...even said they weren’t the only music shop around and that they could quite frankly go crank themselves up to 11 and ohh yeah shove their signature Les Paul they had in the stores up their ass and around the corner 50 miles south

Many modern-day guitarists think this is where the whole "no playing stairway to heaven in a music store" began, but it was before this movie. It was just a song most newbies would learn and music stores got tired of hearing people come in and play it over and over all day long. The movie just made it all the more known.

@@ian0_0z well, no, cos it's not really average at all. It's a pre CBS strat. Those things are so rare nowadays, and cost tens of thousands of dollars each. But even in the 90s when this was filmed, they were already rare and expensive. It's now basically been as long a time between now and the movie came out as it was between when Fender were bought by CBS and the film came out. It's doubled in time. But pre CBS fenders have always been overpriced. Because everyone thinks pre-cbs fenders are magically better, when really they're not, they can be quite hit and miss.

Always liked Garth more than Wayne... The character is more original and is just more awesome :D I never got what was so special about that strat guitar though. It looks just lika a standard fender strat... What's so special about tripple single coil pickups and a whammy bar on a fender strat? They all have those :P Even before I played guitar I never got that.

+winnetouch Well... this was the early 90s where most guitars Wayne would have had access to were probably superstrats with humbuckers. Although I remember reading something in Kurt Cobain's diaries when he said he picked up a pre-CBS Jaguar around this time for fifty dollars or something because the guys selling it thought it was useless unless it had a floyd rose and flat fretboard...

Wayne's World is one of the best feel good comedies (and movies) I've ever seen. I adore the satire at music being eroded by big money. The inside jokes (the forbidden riff), sweet and goofy lead characters who are sweet, innocent and cute. Wayne and Garrh are adorable. I know a lot of people may not agree, but I think a lot here can agree, this should've gotten some Oscar nominations and wins.

I was on the set for the filming. The store clerk did have more lines than what they put in the movie. The script read: Wayne - "I'd like to take a look at this Fender Strat" Clerk - "again?" Wayne - "Yes" Clerk - "you come in here every Friday and play it" Cassandra (angrily) - "Look, he just wants to try it out!" Then the rest of the scene plays out as is.

That Wretched Rock And Roll I'd rather go anywhere OTHER than Guitar Center, actually...sucks ass most of the time. Kids too young to go to a bar go there constantly, then turn everything UP, get in the way of people BUYING, added to.the assh*le who refuses to move a keys amp (HEAVIER than a damn bass amp, even) because "it's already hooked up" to overpriced crap that can't reproduce a good piano sound. At all. True story. Guitar Center on Halsted by Diversey. Shpuld have just unplugged it myself and dragged it across the damned store...but no joke, they're INSANELY HEAVY. Plus, it was Roland, they make good stuff. It was Matt M.F. it's on the receipt, and I don't forget, lol.

It's so weird hearing Wayne start playing and it's not the original start to Stairway to Heaven, after reading the other comment below it just strikes me as super odd. Wayne was bummed out he couldn't play it, it's not like that's derogatory advertising.

A guitar store clerk made a video I watched I guess a few days ago had a list of the 10 most over player songs in a guitar shop, Stairway was in the top 5 if I remember right. So its like an in joke with guitar players and guitar shop employees too. Of course one of the songs on the list wasn't a song at all, but it was the sound of tuning.

I was in that store back in October. Talked to the owner who was there for the entire scene shoot. They wanted Ringo Starr for the part of the guy who approached Garth after the solo but he was unavailable. Excalibur is still there in the exact same display case and the No Stairway sign is there too.

probably cause dana carvey is used to a standard 5 pc setup but for the movie and being on 'stage' a 9 pc double bass kit is more impressive and imposing looking. so it's like he's ignoring the right bass drum pretty much

ShortFingeredShreder To be fair, there are a good number of hardtail strats, as well as a lot of variants that have a SSH or HSH pickup configuration. It still sounds like they were trying to sound technical and failed, though. Filing down the nut would just exacerbate the buzz as well. Replacing it would be the correct thing to do.

+potatoheadhaoy The buzz isn't necessarily coming from the nut end - it might still buzz when fretted at the first fret. In fact, I usually do exactly what she says when I set up a guitar, because the action is often too low and buzzy, but the intonation is poor on the first few frets because the nut is too high.

I own the store it was filmed at. There were more lines to the scene but they ended up on the cutting room floor. After Wayne said he'd like to see the Fender, the clerk said "'again?" and Wayne said "Yes". Then the clerk said "You come in here every Friday to play this". Then Tia snaps at him and says "Look, he just wants to try the guitar". So that's why the clerk says "again".

@@SaintKines That black guitar is a Schecter Strategy made in 1989. When the production crew showed up to film, the prop master asked my what the plainest looking guitar I had was. I showed him this Schecter and he gave me $75.00 to use it in the movie.

The "may i help you" riff - hilarious. Btw, it doesn't sound like Zeppelin in the vid because of copyright issues. Ironically, Zeppelin stole the tune from "Taurus" by the band Spirit.
