The saxophone soli at 9:58 is Branford Marsalis’ solo on Yes or No at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1987. You can check out Marsalis playing this tune on RU-vid.
Whoever disliked this does not understand great jazz, and especially does not understand the art of improvisation, which the soloists here have mastered.. This is a group of good musicians.
Sends chills up my spine. Astoundingly beautiful. The best jazz musicians on the planet. Pushes wynton to play like never before. I love seeing the sax section smiling in appreciation as they witness this american treasure and master!! Thank you Wayne for all the years of beautiful music!!!
Love it! When an entire ensemble of incredibly talented MUSICIANS stand as you walk on to the stage, that's credibility. To today's turn-table spinning, spittin' and 'rhyming'-in-the-mic 'artists' and 'geniuses' --with their over-saturated and shamelessly, over machine, engineered and sampled 'music'---THIS is REAL MUSICIANSHIP!!
August 25th: Happy birthday Jazz Saxophonist-Composer Wayne Shorter. 10 x Grammy Award winner, Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Thank you and God bless. Thanks for the upload, Anthony Camilleri. Blessings
Wayne Shorter sounds amazing on this, but yo thats one of the better Wynton solos I’ve ever heard. So well prepared, so free blowing and open. Brilliant.
One of the most brilliant compositions of our modern era. Our dear, dear Maestro Shorter got it wrong --perhaps my friend you said No! and then many, many more Yeses!!!
Then why is it called "Yes or no" on the album and he doesnt object calling it "Yes or no" here? I think his words were meant to explain the back story but not change the name of the piece.
One of my favorite compositions by the great Wayne Shorter! The solo "thumbs down" person must have slipped into a dreamlike coma and thought that he was at a Kanye West concert, (which would certainly justify the thumbs down). Otherwise, I can't imagine why?
Pepper Williams now now, you have someone here who can enjoy Wayne Shorter just as much as Kanye. There are plenty of awful artists out there that are way worse than Kanye lol
Wayne Shorter is a genius, a living legend, one of my favorites composer and sax players. Hope last more longer, he is getting old but his music legacy will last for many decades.
I think Bix Beiderbecke (great cornet player that lived from 1903 to 1931) might have played and sounded like Marsalis if he har lived today - Marsalis is great here
Why does it sound to me like the runs starting on 3:50 and continuing into 4:20 like the notes are mostly tongued? Is it just the combination of strong steady air flow and fast fingers that make the attack sound so distinct with each note? He's not actually doing much with the tongue is he? Or maybe he is interleaving tongued articulations sporadically into the runs (not every note obviously)? It sounds awesome
Not going to lie; I don't really like Wayne Shorter's soloing, but I thought the composition was just magical when I first heard it off of the Juju album- and Victor Goines' arranging captures the essence of the piece so beautifully. Nicely done.
Hello , it's not important if you like it. This is Wayne fitting in a concept of nostalgic music scene around Mr.Marsallis. Let's say , museum. People like it , pay a ticket and the musicians have a job. That's the popular bandwagon. If you expect something , then it's a mind over matter thing. Popularity is a bitch. Sorry to say.
