My theory: the squip did this on purpose. He took his programing, and took his work seriously even at the cost of himself, and the best way to do that? Give Jeremy real courage by "defeating" a big evil and making people like him more in the end of it. The Red Mountain Dew does nothing, as shown in the end by him still being there, and making Jermey feel vindicated that he's defeated by him being "angry" that he was "defeated". Lmk your theories if you have any!

I feel like the QUIP could totally just convince everyone that mountain dew red is it's weakness when it's probably just a red herring. Like, depending on how much control a QUIP actually has the ending could just be a matrix style illusion, where they pretend to lose but still have control over everyone.
