I'm so very sorry someone hurt you with their criticism of your work. Your work is uniquely your own. It's nothing at all like mine, which I think is what is drawing me so much towards what you do. It's so totally different. I love how free and expressive you are, and unafraid to try new ideas, and to not make a mistake. That hangs me up all the time, the fear. I feel that need of perfection constantly. I don't want to waste supplies, even though I rationally know I'm not "wasting". There's also the constant drive to get work done for shows, and it seems there isn't a lot of time left over for experimentation. I think that's why I love your channel so much. Not only are you such and outgoing, engaging person, but you push your work. I found myself taking pictures of fancy chairs the other day to try some chair paintings of my own, just because I loved yours si much. You have quite an influence on people , so please don't let one person keep you down. You're wonderful ❤
How nicely put. I totally agree with all of your comment. Being courageous to just ‘see what will happen if I do this,’ is what we love about your process! (Also, some people are sometimes just jealous of your successful methods?) hum…
Hello Michelle, I completely acknowledge what you say about fear and I just wanted viewers to know that it is so important to believe in themselves. Don't let the fear stop you from experimenting .... I did that for a long time and regret it ! FIGHT THE FEAR and have a wonderful week XX
I worked for a number of years in an art gallery here in the UK and we all knew the one unspoken rule, you never criticise an artists work! People need to understand there are many forms of artwork and everyone favours different things. I absolutely love your work, it is extremely professional and sophisticated. Keep up the good work, there will always be those who lack understanding of the art world. 😁🇬🇧
Meeting you in person and being able to buy some of your paintings was the highlight of my trip to the UK. And yes, the paintings got home safely. Off tomorrow to buy frames for the many cards. My house feels all the more cheerful for having some of your work in it! Thankyou, Sue from NZ
I have 2 wee ones of Gaynor’s on my wall, and know how you feel! I feel joyful looking at them and knowing (through RU-vid) the fabulous artist that created it is the icing!❤
Your paintings are uniquely yours, no one else does anything similar, continue to be you. Many people won't understand an artistic mind that steps out of the box and welcomes true creativity. Thank you so much.
I can never begin to understand how people criticise when they didn’t have to watch it anyway, how fortunate our we all to have free utube, these artists don’t have to share their work, but they do and I am forever grateful Gaynor for your content. Remember for one bad comment i;m sure you would get many more great comments so don’t even think about it, just be the lovely person that you are and enjoy what you are doing.
I love your thought for the day and totally agree with you! One of the things ( and there are many ) that I enjoy while watching your videos is your enthusiasm, joy and love for your own work…..it kind of gives me permission to like, find joy and sometimes even love the creations I make…..please don’t stop being you 😊
Gaynor I’ve only just discovered you. First may I thank you for inviting us into your beautiful home. Don’t take note of negativity. It’s not always about what you actually paint. It goes without saying your work is exceptional and you push boundaries. The important thing is what it produces and it’s not always the material outcome. I have painted for some years but my greatest joy is working with my grandchildren and enabling them to achieve something they take pride in. My daughter and I were invited to demonstrate how to paint Van Gogh sunflowers at my granddaughter’s school, 66 ten year old students all had recognisable paintings . That’s the joy . You have already inspired me. I’m making plans and bought the materials to install shelves around my art room so I can effectively compare and alter paintings over a period of time of observation. What I think I’m trying to say is having the ability to inspire and motivate is a very great achievement and a strength. I have had ten days with Covid and your videos have eased my way through it when all I could do was watch the tv. Many thanks Jenny
Hello and Welcome Jenny, Sending very best wishes for a speedy recovery. Thank you for watching and taking time to leave this lovely message. Good luck with your shelves, they make all the difference....I love the subconscious way paintings invite you to make the next mark ! Have a wonderful week XX
We all know that art is subjective and that what one person dislikes another will love! I think you are absolutely right Gaynor in that you need to love what you do first. There is a type of art for everyone! You make me laugh in saying you tell yourself to do one thing and end up doing another - I do that all the time - I am so contrary! I hope you have a lovely week Gaynor. X
I watch you every week and love your positive happy spirit! I love the painting you had on the gravel, it is actually one of my favorites of yours . I think it is the black line work!!! Then the fling!!! Perfect! Thank you for sharing your heart.
Thank you, again, Gaynor. I find you inspiring. Please ignore any criticism, I am a very different artist to you, but I still am so encouraged by watching you. my sketchbook has Lilies, Hydrangeas and aliums in because I couldn’t help myself after watching you. I love your freedom of expression and spontaneity as you paint.
When I watch your videos I am always struck by how much heart goes into everything you do. It’s positively beautiful how much authentic thought and energy you devote to your pieces! Many things spend time in your studio or on your walls, or get put away for a bit, but then I see you revisit them and bring them to their fullness. Thank you for all of your creative sharing!❤️
I think Pineapple Angel is your Muse...reminding you to keep following your curiosity and to keep pushing traditional art school boundaries! Who needs perspective..can't we just make art for joy's sake? It's artists like you that make the best teachers!
So glad to see your video pop up! I love watching you play with colour and watching your surprising experiments unfold. The painting you took outside to throw paint on i think is almost there, if not there. I liked it from the minute you popped it on the wall to ponder. Your garden works its way into everything doesn’t it? Oh my. I think i better get out a little black and Gaynor my sunflowers that have stumped me and have been frozen in time, waiting patiently for a solution. Lol. Thank you Gaynor, for sharing your enthusiasm! Your videos are an artistic shot in the arm.
Music, poetry, art, etc...all created from nothing that can be explained really. It comes from the heart, all senses and experiences which are quite intangible. Most of us tune in each week to see what you are drawing up from your inner person and painting on canvas. We love the beauty that springs from your heart...the dreamy color pallets, fresh landscapes, and dynamic floral compositions. I'm not sure what motivates a person to criticize but oh well...just keep creating your lovely art ❤ We look forward each week to your video...and we learn from you...always enjoying your fresh approach. Today was just so lovely, Thank you, Gaynor.
Thanks for being so inspiring . Every week I look forward to your video. My favorite this week is the one you worked on and then "flung" paint at outside..I love the pink with the lavender gray...😊 they are all great!❤
Gaynor isn't that so true that we can have 99 positive comments but we let the 1 negative live in our head. Yes you have to show it the door!!!! I Love Modigoni (sp) women. Your Angel is sooo sweet. I'd keep her!!!! Flinging & spattering is great fun. How lucky that some of the community here got to meet you.
Hello Anita, ....living in our head, rent free !!! I read that somewhere. How lucky am I to have this gorgeous community. Thank you for your kindness and have a fantastic week X
I'm so happy to see the paper bag alliums becoming a series -- what a privilege to see them come into being and start to carry on into other panels, paper, canvases . . .
All those natural resources give inspiration to your work. Can't imagine how the great abstract artists of the past would have put themselves out there to create before a vast audience. Yet, U do it successfully week after week. I remember seeing a video where a man looked at a Picasso and commented that his 5 years could have made that ... wow, what talent ... just hope he encouraged his child to continue in art. Art history from way back is amazingly informative. The mediums and whatever canvases ... from charcoal, chalk, on rocks, wood all show creativity. ... All creative artists, whatever the field is theater, photography, literature, visual art 🎨, has to be confident with themselves to share their works, all the while growing your skills and encouraging and inspiring others to do what it takes to improve. Jackson Pollock would have enjoyed the splatter 😂. Ann, Florida fan
Gaynor, you are a highlight in my week. Your work sings of joy and play and excitement. A simple pineapple becomes a thing worth studying under your brushstrokes! Thank you so much for your generous content. I appreciate you❣️
Hello Gaynor,so glad you are enjoying the exhibition,I really don’t know how you choose which paintings to take, you keep pulling out all these lovely ones we’ve not seen!!Bird looks great but I thought how paper bag really influenced him!So maybe add some elements over to enhance him?Very intrigued to see what you come up with!😁Very proud you have adopted your attitude to negative comments, being a cancerian, I’m a sensitive soul too!So totally get where you’re coming from..you paint to please you and that’s what matters! As the saying goes,Beauty is in the eye of the beholder…you’ll never please everyone..Just keep singing Doris..Que Sera Sera!!I like the fling look..given it a new edge..so well flung Gaynor lol! Thanks for showing us your lovely Nigella!I wonder if they might pop up in a new painting or maybe you already one in your hidden stash?!!Keep being you and have an enjoyable week!!❤
I love what you're doing with the flowers and I'm into flowers at the moment and yesterday I bought a pineapple keyring it's just something bright and cheerful thanks for sharing your vids are awsome thanks Gaynor darling 😊
I just love hearing you verbalize what’s going on with you internally. Please continue making videos. I very much enjoy watching you work. You inspire me to put my self-critic away and be uniquely me. You help me to not be afraid. Thank you.
Gaynor, first I have absolutely LOVED watching all of your videos. The green painting on the easel is so interesting! If you leave it just like it is, to me it’s perfect as it looks like two little broom stick head figures, a male and female having a really animated interesting conversation. Then you have it next to angel and it’s a whole conversation going on! LOVE IT!! Oh and the new flower painting, my heart be still ❤ LOVE LOVE LOVE!
I have so enjoyed discovering and following you for a while now! Watching this latest installment tonight, I was reminded of the first art/artist I ever knew. He lived up the road from us and moved away by the mid 1950s, probably before I was 8 or 9. He had converted one of the huge chicken coops his parents had into a very modern home. He was a police photographer but he was also a mosaic artist and, I believe, a painter, and had made several small mosaic pools on the property. Back in the 1950s, we kids in the neighborhood would wander from house to house, not necessarily to play with kids, since he had none, but also to investigate what was happening and to chat with the adults. He was a bit odd - afraid that kids would fall into his pools - but he fascinated me, and drove an old green Land Rover with the spare tire clamped to the top of the hood/bonnet. Who knows what things draw us into a life of creativity! Keep on trying new things! I love it!
That pineapple angel theme is just wonderful. I love Modigliani . Always reminds me of my mum (that and magnolia trees) and the shape of your long skinny landscape pictures reminds me of a picture of Guinea Fowl I used to have. I’m taking note of your colour palettes. Beautiful.
I love your determination to keep going and not let a negative comment get you down. It’s so easy to let one negative infect all the good. Your work just gets better and better which happens when one keeps practicing. I just want to come sit in your corner and soak up the joy you find in your work.
Absolutely love your cabin studios. Your landscaping is beautiful as well. Love your home ❤️🙏 I am loving the pink and grayblue. I'm in a bit of a pink phase at the moment myself. I went through a purple phase for a while. Funny how it goes.
Thank you for all your lovely inspirational videos. I love how you are not daunted when things don't look the way you want them to and carry on applying more paint etc. It's all so encouraging.
You are so Brave. I am always screaming noooo don't do that you are going to destroy what great work you have ....but then it always turns out marvelous 💪💕💕
I just love your creativity fantastic. I really need to be free of my own inner cridic and you are helping me so much. I am just starting out as I have told you before and I just can't watch enough of your channel. Thank you so much for all your help and hard work 👍 ❤️ blessings from Ontario 🇨🇦 🙏
Gaynor, remember you are an artist, not to the masses, but to yourself! Love your style and color combinations. I can’t see your vision, you are able to and that is the wonder of your art. Carry on, continue to be an inspiration to other people who subscribe on your channel. They visit each week to see your work and progress. Best regards!
Dear Gaynor, oh please please don’t touch your bird painting! When I just heard you say you had to deal with the bottom left side, sort of bluish, I was aghast! To me this painting is charming, simple, perfect, finished! Why do you see these areas as imperfections? So often I see the ‘modernity’ of your work in its simplistic somewhat unfinished state. This is what you seem to strive for, the modernity, but then you wipe it all away and start something else when the very beginning was so cool! Let me encourage you! You are on the right path and I salute your fresh modern style! Bravo and thankyou for these great videos! Be blessed, Mary in Arizona, USA
Oh Gaynor I’m so sorry to hear that you’ve had some bad comments. Please don’t let that upset you. You are wonderful, your art is so unique and your personality is sunshine. 🌞😘
Forgive them for their negativity, jealousy,and/or insecurities! To know you is to love your work, enthusiasm, originality, and also Craig and Lauren!🤣
I agree that rude comments are usually the speakers own jealousy and insecurities. We don’t all like the same things which is fine but one doesn’t have to be rude and negative. For sensitive people it can linger and be hurtful. Even when a piece isn’t my cup of tea I keep quiet or I find the positive to speak about. I don’t want to hurt someone brave enough to put their work out there.
Wow Gaynor! Thank you so much for so generously sharing your thought process! You are an amazing artist and you inspire! Can’t thank you enough for your weeklies❤
I remember pineapple angel, love her ❤ Bird painting is going to be great and the splats painting has so much energy exploding from the centre! So glad the exhibition is going well xx
You and your paintings are so unique. I love watching you create - I am always flabbergasted (in a good way) by the end results. Your process and finished paintings are incredibly inspiring. Don’t change a thing! 💚
Gaynor, for all the wonderful things the internet/social media allows they also give a voice to people who are keen on sharing misery...it bums me out sometimes. A long time ago someone told me. "If you care too much what they think, you will never be able to do what you love". When I watch you I see someone who refuses to allow anyone to take you from what YOU love! You're a joy-bringer, a brilliant artist and a seeker of beauty! I'm so glad you share so much with us! I always carry those words with me, they're my teflon❤❤❤ Your friend across the pond:) Samahra
I love watching you paint Gaynor, you are so creative, and I get what you said about comments. I painted a family of polar bears, and framed it. My niece came for a visit and I showed it to her, she said " hmm quiet good" in a tone that didn't match the word good. 😂 I let it bother me for days. Some people have no clue😜 Molly.
I wish you published a video EVERYDAY! Having surgery next week that will keep me out of my studio for a couple weeks…..hoping I can get a fix from YOU! ❤️❤️
Gaynor, I love your fun style totally and am so disappointed that some people just have to be negative in an ugly way. You have been my greatest inspiration since your channel was just a babe and I thank you for that. ❤
Hello Kerrie, I love our baby channel....lots of lovely supportive people who watch and send such goodness. Heartfelt thanks for your words X Have a wonderful week XX
Hi Gaynor, there’s always someone who needs to be mean. You’re so right, do what makes you happy. By the looks of many of your followers you are making them happy too. Your work is amazing.
I really hope that nobody can stop you❤ Be you …and many of us love you🌞🍃🍀🎨✨ I have just finished cvp with Nicklas Wilton and you are exactly what he teaching. Be free and stay to your rules 🫶🏼
Gaynor…you are 🌸WONDERFUL🌸 in ALL ways! 💕 Always a JOY to watch you experiment in your videos 🤸♂️ Thank you 🙏 🙏🙏 Love your quirky portraits, bird painting and two lovely quirky vases and white lined flowers! ❤️LOVED the soft pastel colours in your pineapple….beautiful 🤩 Can I just say that…that blue grey colour of your alliums I think, brings your painting down, adds element of drab. To me that colour just doesn’t fit right…. but hey you can now prove me wrong lol 😂 The alliums could do with more space in them….splodges look too heavy. Maybe you could make a stamp and create them out of that…might be fun😃 Well done with your exhibition!!! Cannot believe people are coming from America to see you and buy paintings….That is AWESOME!! So pleased for you 🤩 Gaynor do you think you will do a day’s workshop? I would so ‘LOVE’ to come to one, if you do. Have a lovely week and remember you are loved by thousands of people Whoo Hoo 🤸♂️🤸♂️🤸♂️
Hello Teresa, I feel so much gratitude to the wonderful viewers who support and spur me on each week. You guys are WONDERFUL. Thank you for great input on the alliums....plenty to think about. I would love to run a workshop at some point in the future, something to think about for sure ! Have a wonderful week XX
Though I am in love with your bright and colorful paintings, I find this current series you're working on with subtle colors so appealing. When this video opened, I was struck by the delicate beauty of the paperwork behind you and thought it was a finished piece. But the continuing work only improves the overall feeling and I like it even more. I was thinking why haven't I started a series myself? I am so inspired by yours that I do need to attempt a series myself. Have a lovely week.
Love,Love,Love all the paintings you’re currently working on! Also agree with you about not letting negative comments derail you! As artists, we are sensitive to begin with, so it’s easy to feel things deeply and personally. The negativity says more about the other person than it can ever say about you or me. You are a light! Keep shining!😊
Gaynor you never cease to amaze me! I Love How brave , free and expressive you are. Please don't allow negative comments to get under your skin....You are a fabulous painter and I adore your channel. Fell the love that surrounds you from your hundreds of followers......just keep painting for you!!! ❤❤❤ P.s. you inspired me to paint alliums!!! So fun !
Hello Kim, I feel the wonderful support from this fabulous group of creators and am so thankful for it. Thank you for watching and taking time to comment XX
I think you are very brave. I always get to a certain point where I freeze up and am afraid to continue. You just take that brush and slap some paint onto the page. Tickles me every time. I will try to be brave like you and keep going too. 😉
Heartfelt thanks Ann....where would I be without you pushing me on and generously sharing all your RU-vid finds ! I will keep up the splatter...have a wonderful week XX
Enjoyed your video so much! I painted this morning, didn’t like the result so I put it aside. Tried a stamping in my sketchbook that I thought I’d use as a background - didn’t like that either! Thanks to you, I know I can just keep experimenting, ‘have a go’ because I can always get out the white paint and start over. Glad you were having so much success this week!
Gaynor, you are always such a bright inspiration to me. I was telling a friend about how you often cover over areas with white or color, with the scrape of a card - and she tried it, and it's opened up a whole new vista for her. I like constructive feedback, but we do need to ignore what I call "Armchair Critics"; and remember that those who 'can't" criticize, Part of me feels sorry for them (but only part of me!) We love you and so admire your talent. Thanks for sharing with us, most appreciated!
Why make derogatory comments? You are so courageous putting yourself and your paintings out there. I’m not nearly brave enough! Keep going , your paintings so different to mine so they are a breath of air & your joie de vivre is contagious. Love your fresh green pot.
I wanted to thank you for sharing your work and painting methods. I wanted to share that I, like you need several glasses for different uses, and last year I invested in bifocals that also have a mid section, so I have far, mid and close up vision all in one pair. It's amazing! Ot takes a bit to get use to but it's well worth it.
Great thoughts on the negative comments! Thanks for getting it out there for us -- Your art is lovely, playful, positive and just so fun! TY for the lovely vids!
Gaynor, I do not know why people feel so disinhibited on the internet. Some folks mistake criticism for feedback. I think if one posts a negative comment they should follow it with a positive one. Anyhow, your work is fun and delightful. I always feel refreshed after watching your videos and listening to your comments.
I absolutely love everything you showed today! Wow! And the new large vertical paper painting is amazing! 🖌️🎨 Love the pineapple!! I think I will paint one too!!! Probably in watercolor and Faber Castell ink pen!!🍍🍍🍍
You are very welcome! Speaking of series....a couple weeks ago I found a ROCK shaped like half of a stuffed chair...😊 I immediately said "GREEN CHAIR!" I painted it like green chair with the brownish frame...now I have to decide which cusion (we call them pillows) to paint on it!🎨🖌️ Probably the white and black one you had on yours! I thought this might make you smile. God bless you!
HI Gaynor, Im alaways checking for your next vlog. Almost cant wait! Loving your pops of vibrant green and yellow with lilacs and light blue hues. I find it makes a painting more interesting. Your bird painting maybe could do with some balance in the left corner. I would maybe pop some lovely yellow and white daisies to add some interest and kèep it looking very summery with the apricot and greens. Loving the bold purple flowers in your paper bag painting,. I do think adding small blocks of contrasting colours is the way to go, to break up the areas, so it doesn't become too busy. Its hard sometimes to get the energy going in a painting, but when you find it, it's a great feeling. Really loving watching how many paintings you are juggling at a time. I can hardly stick to one, let alone 3 or 4.😊 Best luck, Jo😊
I find you and your work so relaxing, I too am a very sensitive soul, I know how throw away comments can go so deep for us, we don’t choose that it just is. I am a padantic painter , have to get the perspective right. I loved your laughter at the comment you were given. I am trying to let go of that I know it is holding me back. I am a new subscriber loving your personality and your work.
Hello and Welcome, it is always lovely to hear from new viewers X. Thank you for watching and taking time to leave a great comment...it is hard to let go and it took me an age BUT it can be done !!! Have a lovely creative week X
"A bit of crit." Cute. Although getting it is far from cute. We sure do need to learn to develop thick skins when our work is in the public eye and folks feel free to say whatever they want. Speaking of which, the person who says you don't know perspective just doesn't GET your work. The loose, non-realistic style is what is so absolutely charming. I loved the drawing I watched you do of a building - the fact that perspective is totally NOT what it's about makes it so your style. Folk artists don't do perspective and their work is absolutely lovely! I LOVE your pineapple painting - and I do understand you may want to do more work on it. I would have loved to see you doing that. I keep being tickled by our similarities... I get a box of fruits and veggies monthly and a friend picked it up for me this week. She told me there was a pineapple in it, and I said "Great! Something for me to paint!" 🙂 It's getting weird, all these similarities. And I'm in Canada and you mentioned two people in Canada - so lovely one from Nova Scotia came to your show!!! I totally love that green painting, and it's "partner" with the ochre-coloured vase. So lovely. Your videos make me so happy! I'm still a long way away from making the art I long to, but I keep at it daily, and little wins are encouraging! Have a great week, Gaynor!
Hello Janina.....you've hit it on the head...'little wins are encouraging' ! Those 'wins' will take you in the right direction....I think creativity keeps unfolding if we let it XX
Someone hurt your feelings criticizing your work?? We Ride At Dawn!!!! People can be real you know whats sometimes. I’m sorry that happened. Love this week’s video as always!! I love the palette of the cornflower blue pink and black! I will come to one of your shows one day!! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!! Much Love from Atlanta 👋🏻 Roxanne
Lovely video Gaynor, im always amazed how much work goes into making a video. Thank you for sharing your your knowledge and inspiration........Alioban ❤😊xx
I am so sorry that u have had some unconstructive criticism. I sometimes think that what is said online can reflect peoples' own problems and lives that have absolutely nothing to do with your vid. it is sad that they bounce it out in thjis way. But U always strike me as, however sensitive , a confident and successful person who will as you say not be stopped by this. As i have said before i love your work and your enthusiasm. U are an inspiration to all who see your vids, bar a few who need concern neither us nor you. Best R
Hello Gaynor, yes I asked about all your paint, so thanks for the mention. You still haven’t shown us how you store it all, or your brushes, inks or sketchbooks etc. I’m still curious. 🤔 Regarding unhelpful or negative nasty comments, you do have to have a thicker skin, but I share your sensitivity. Just remember that if you’ve sold work then someone loves it enough to purchase it. The people that make the horrible comments are most probably actually jealous of you, and they make these comments to make themselves feel better. It’s about them, not you! I absolutely love the canvas with the pink. Don’t overwork it please😂😂😂 Have a good week. 💐
One viewer likened thicker skin to having a Teflon Coating ! I think it is a human response to feel hurt but I have never felt so determined to keep pushing on. Oh dear....having finished this exhibition, I have got a little carried away in the cabin....all will be revealed !! Have a lovely week XX
I personally feel that criticism is a very bad thing. However, critique can be a very good thing. For me personally those beautiful little landscapes I think that rather than diving right onto them I would recreate one of them and then work on that for detail to see if there needed to be changes to those or I could just be adding to that series. However, that is just me.
