I don’t listen to a lot of stuff with these vocals but I absolutely love this version for its absurdity. It’s just over the top on purpose and it’s a ton of fun. The only other stuff I could say I enjoyed in the vocal style is JFAC’s Doom EP.
Morning boys! WBTBWB are an absolute throwback man used to love them years ago. Was sooo happy when they brought Tobi back to the band after Paul left! 🤟🤟
I actually do like the highs....I enjoyed oli...and even alex when he was in chelsea grin! No hate, though I respect that the style isn't for everyone. Great reaction as always!
Dude it bugged me first listen too. Now I’ve listened to it like 10x a day, every day. Listening to their other songs really helped adjust to it. They seem to have been doing a heavier metal eskimo callboy-ish style for awhile and the songs are catchy as hell. Heavy, fast, fun...
I’m a little late but Tobi (the vocalist here) left wbtbwb after the second record, doing both in this style. The new vocalist Paul influenced the sound heavily and they shifted more into metalcore (even industrial metalcore)
Best comment i seen: WBTBWB: So how ridiculous...? Eskimo Callboy: Yes! WBTBWB: say no more. Personally i love it. I needed a listen or two before i loved it. The vocals i kinda like that, but more in black metal.
Regardless of you guys not liking it as much as myself when I first heard this I was like damn I need to see nath and Johnny’s reaction ASAP lol another amazing video and love how you guys go in with an open mind and can appreciate different aspects wether it’s your type of music or not! Keep up the amazing content!
Hahahaha WHAT. That was amazing! I had no idea WBTBWB was still around, I used to listen to them back in the day when they put out their song Extrem. One of the most intense and longest breakdowns I've heard back then.
As you said not vocals I would listen to for an album but for the cover it just made me laugh my ass of when combined with his flirty facial expressions. All and all I like this cover of Hypa Hypa the best out of them all just for the comical value.
I don't like pig squeeling either, but for this particular version of Hypa Hypa it didn't bother me, I actually quite liked it here, because I see this as a "what would Hypa Hypa sound like if we dialled it up to 11?" and this is what I think it would sound like. So it kinda made sense to me.
Even you could argue about some manners put to the extreme with vocals and sound i like this a lot, because i am not taking it to serious and just having fun with it for the sake of fun. I dont know anything about the intentions of Eskimo Callboy and We Butter The Bread With Butter when it comes to technical aspects and so an but i think one of the main focus is just having fun and delivering a catchy tune.
Thats the great thing about music tho. It's ok that u didn't like it but could appreciate the intent and skill needed to do it even though it wasn't your "cuppa tea". I personally loved it. That vocal range is so hard to do and maintain and I think WBTBWB did a great job on this cover
I really LOVE this version! but I still can handle honesty if someone else doesn't.. I just didn't get Johnny when he said he knew what to expect as he knew the band before, regarding the highs? As it's not all that typical for their songs (at least to this extent, of course you find some here and there in masterpieces such as Dreh auf! or Klicks.Likes.Fame.Geil). Plus, they typically do their lyrics in German, which generally sounds more angry and brutal and two actaves lower .. at least that's what I hear from most non Germans, I myself find it calm, quiet and oh so melodic. Kappa Regarding their name, story goes that back when they formed they got bored of band names getting longer and longer and oh so dark... thus they came up with the band name, satirizing this trend. And when we are at it, in their early years they made their own versions of ... children songs. Maybe Johnny was familiar with Alle meine Entchen, I actually can imagine this quiet well. :D So.... what can we do here to take away Nathans fear of these kind of vocals? I really see you guys reacting to Dreh auf! or if you're feeling brave even Klicks.Likes.Fame.Geil... at least in my wet dreams... Maybe coming true with a video to one of those songs? ;)
I usually don't like vocals like that, I don't even listen to any scream metal stuff. But for some reason it works with the insane ridiculousness of this version. It's so over the top with all the changes that it fits right into.
Even though after a few listens I've grown to like this version fully, I agree with you guys. Musically I find this version much more appealing than vocally. That said, there are parts where the whole song is on point for me - eg. the pre-breakdown parts (both the almost Daft Punk part and the one after that).
TBH, WBTBWB is basically deathcore Eskimo Callboy. All their videos are hysterical. Uhh...keep in mind this version was largely in German. I know the original lyrics are all in English, but that's what they do.
Im more the Metalcore guy, than a Deathcore guy. i still love WBTBWB . I think its fitting pretty well those High Vocals from Tobi. and hes such a beast. I think its fitting pretty well , because it feels like "to much" for the normal guys :D
I love it. That's so stupid in the smartest way possible. I want their self confidence. Super sick. I don't remember me enjoying a song clip as much. LOL. I feel like I need a version of that type of all the punk pop songs! Generally I'm not into this vocal style too but this song could be the most listened ones this year.
Nice Reaktion - maybe you should try Saltatio Mortis vs Eskimo Callboy - Hypa Hypa (Medivial Metal) --- or the Versions of Axel One (Surprise!) oder Sasha (Pop) or 257er (Hip Hop) or in a few days the version from The BossHoss - Country & Western or any other Version of Hypa Hypa ;)
It's a hard song version to sing along, ain't gonna lie. But I greatly enjoy the satire and the music track and how it's arranged. Also the references to WBTBWB's "Dreh Auf!" - another piece (also with a music video) that is awesome in SO many ways.
Personally I never used to enjoy those type of vocals, but once I started getting into Thy Art and other heavier bands I can appreciate the skill it takes to do it. I like this song a lot, the original will always be the best though! 4.5/5.0
Love this but think I love the original more haha! You boys really, and I mean REALLY, need to listen to Aviations - Outliers! It's without a doubt my #1 song of 2020 and is so underrated it's ridiculous! You boys won't regret it, I promise you that!
you should watch the original video, one of the funniest videos i've ever seen... they are always great live fun... 👌🏻 and 'ohne herz' is a great song of wbtbwb😉
Yes this! I was going to say dont judge them by the name. They have some absolutely insane tracks 'ohne hertz' has one of the best synth sections of all time. Meine brille is another sick track.
Appreciate the honesty about the vocals ruining it! Those highs aren't something I could listen to for extended periods but I really like them in this song. I can't really explain why, other than saying I like how forcefully they grab your attention, especially when contrasted with the lows. It feels sort of like having the "why do you like metal, its just people yelling" argument.
The entire album is just Eskimo Callboy just trying to get some other artists together to make some fun music if you're looking for some deep meaning about it you've already lost. Big thing about WBTBWB is they all started as a joke band. The over the top vocal style the over the top heaviness is just that over the top. Its like trying to look at Infant Annihilator and trying to make any sense out of their lyrics or style it just doesn't work out.
Sorry, guys, but you approach this song way too earnest ;-) This whole song is simply weird and fun and doesn' t require 'understanding of the lyrics' at all :D
Is really your complaint that you can’t understand a German band singing in English interpreted by another German band also singing in English? And that’s your main focus of criticism? 60% of Europe cont understand your Eurovision entries…
I get the humour here, but it doesn't exactly make me enjoy it xD You should check out Saltatio Mortis version - you might like it better. I mean... BAGPIPES :'D
