UConn earned this one. They played better than Notre Dame did. The Huskies had less turnovers and drilled more 3 pointers. Jewell Loyd tried her best but her teammates needed to give a little more than they did. Stewart only had 8 but rebounded well so getting Most Outstanding Player makes sense. I’m an Irish fan but have so much respect for the UConn huskies program and the rivalry with them is awesome and good for the game.
2020 & still watching and loving this game.....also still puzzled about Notre Dame's decision to concede (not foul) with a full minute left in the game and down ten points.
For those who promote having a deep bench, this is classic UConn: Starters played 187 min (34.7 mpg avg) and #6, 10 min, Gabby 3. ND played starters 166 min (33.2 mpg), #6, 22 min and #7 & 8, 12 min. If you check the box scores of UConn close games, Geno plays starters up to 190 mpg. Yes, a deep bench is needed if you have injuries or fouls, but UConn seems to have fewer injuries than others and is usually one of the lowest fouling team in the top tier.
2021. I think what hurt ND was not having a 3 that could compete with UConn. Mabrey1 and Cable were good substitutes. Loyd was clearly already preparing to leave, her decision making and shot selection were poor this game. I remember watching this and being so excited for Turner's development. She never developed a jumpshot, but that definitely had to do with her shoulder injury. I thought Tuck, KML, and MoJeff were going to have good WNBA careers. Injuries suck. Stewie is of course MVP level and will be for a long time. Nurse and Williams had good careers at Uconn and seem to be heading in the right direction in the W.
Classic UConn... Starters played 187 minutes (37.4 avg)... Sixth man, Kiah, played 10... ND starters played 166 (33.2 avg). UConn starters can play the full forty if needed which doesn't happen often.
Looking forward to this season. 3 great looking freshman coming in and with Butler now being allowed to play they got a 6'5 center again. I think Collier is going to be the next big UCONN star. Things are looking good.
+Linwood Russell THATS TRUE 5-6 STRAIGHT CHOULD HAPPEN HOPEFULL MORGAN TUCK RETURNS FOR YEAR NUMBER 5 SO WHO YOU GOT MEETING UCOON FOR THIS YEARS CHAMPIONSHIP SYRACUSE OR WASHINGTON.
Do you think you could post WNBA games on your page specifically when the Tulsa Shock, San Antonio Stars, Los Angeles Sparks, Seattle Storm, or the Indiana Fever play? Please
She will re-team with KML and play with Sue Bird for at least one year. Seattle will challenge Minnesota & Phoenix for the Western Conference championship
Was this when they started doing the women's game with four quarters now instead of two halves of play in 2015 or did that happen a year later in 2016?
WELL NO TENNESEE SYRACUSE IS FAV TOO AT LEAST GET TO THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP THIS YEAR IF THEY CAN BEAT WASHINGTON BUT STILL IF ANY OF THEM TWO TEAMS HAS TOO FACE UCOON ITS HARD TOO SEE THEM PULLING OF THE BIGGEST UPSET EVER LIKE GENO ALWAYS SAY IF UCOON PLAYS THE WAY THEY KNOW HOW TOO PLAY THEN NO ONE IS BEATING THEM.
I cant even watch the current UConn team so I'm back watching the old games. I've been a hardcore fan since the Sue Bird/Swin cash era and watched Geno coach for 20 years. For the first time I just don't know what's going on. Freshmen with incredibly high ceilings when judged against their peers, yet Bent and Irwin are on the floor. I thought those 2 got scholarships just to be the "walk on" types that Pulido and Lawlor were so successful in that role. Is Geno trying to justify his giving them scholarships? I expect transfers and inexperienced sophomores next year because of it. UConn has always won championships on its seniors, and last year Chong fell short (we just didn't have the team around her) and I cant see Gabby and Kia getting it done either. They are both great in their roles, and the improvements Gabby has made in the past years have been phenomenal. We have Stevens and Walker now, there is no reason for Kia and Gabby to play much more than 20 min a game depending on the match-up which is where they have always been at their best. I hope I'm wrong, but is Geno slipping or "resting on his laurels" as he has discussed is so difficult to avoid even when you know it and try not to? It seems the program is just not the same this year and is focusing on things other than developing the best players and winning championships.
It does suck since they took them off of PBS, I too can no longer get my UCONN fix, so like you I watch what I can here. This indeed filled a deep void.
That rule about nominating only 3 players is discriminating. What if by chance a team has the 5 best women players in the ncaa. 2 of the best players in the nation can't become All Americans??
Uconn has lost the past 3 years now each year they are getting weaker and weaker the players he’s recruiting are not built for UConn that’s just my opinion and playing in the weak ass conference told everything each year . And this year they are not going to be any better than last year my opinion I think they are going to be worst they have no go to player that’s going to carry the team when the game is on the line . And I hope people don’t think that crystal dangerfield is the answer because she’s not she just the floor general. This season .
Most team in the country would like that making it to the final four the last three years to be considered weak. Especially losing those games in the last minute
