@@PenskePC17that actually works to your disadvantage. In the old days with less padding, people were less likely to get hit so hard in the head in the first place. The helmets encourage brain trauma in the same way that boxing gloves do.. in the bare knuckle days people rarely punched the head because they didn’t want to break their hands, or get cut by teeth. I’m not necessarily saying that football helmets are bad, but they sure as hell aren’t a silver bullet either.
I know Brian talked about this, but it is UNREAL what a completely different wrestler Austin was during this time. Dude moves like a cruiserweight on speed.
I saw a post of a match he had with muta and I saw him go for a frog splash. Never thought I'd ever see that in my life. Just puts into perspective how strong he was all around.
Great costume Brian, I remember reading Foley’s book and him counting on the piggyback spot to end his career, he just hadn’t counted on his body being damn near unbreakable.
I would say less his body being unbreakable, his body was pretty broken by the end of his career. It was his will and his love for the business that kept him going
It's kinda wild that Mick wanted to get injured at this time yet still ended up working in WCW for more than a year, especially being booked against Vader. Vader seems like the kind of guy who can work as stiff as he wants and would have no problem injuring a guy if they really wanted it.
Vader was one of the nicest people ever lol. He'd just give good, stiff receipts and if he truly didn't like you, had no problem giving a stiff shot.. If he were actually dangerous and just an ass hole, nobody would have worked with him lol
I never read or heard of Vader giving receipts or hurtin people he didn't like. He simply had a stiff style and was actually quite inexperienced during even this time period....leading to unitinentional injuries to some of his opppments
Rick Rude defeated quite a number of legends during his run in WCW Not to say that he wasn’t used good in the WWF But man, his career in WCW was arguably the best of his career in terms of victories and accomplishments
Absolutely. And he would have gotten that elusive world title run were it not for WCW leaving the NWA. (No, of course the "international" and World Class belts don't count, lol)
@@gunder01 He deserved at least 1 WCW World Title run, imagine being "the Man" at the top of WCW. If not for the back injury and Hogan's arrival, it would certainly had happened...but you know, shit happened.
@gunder01 No matter what name they used in reference to the big gold belt in this time period, it was still perceived as the secondary world champion behind the WCW champion . The NWA was all but dead without WCW propping it up.
I said it before, I'll say it again, Wrestling With Wregret is easily my favourite channel on RU-vid. These videos are so enjoyable to watch and really comforting/make me feel better on my off days. Much love Brian, you're doing amazing!
Fun fact about “ Whoomp! There it Is!”, it was the unofficial song of the New Orleans Saints that year. It was cranked up in the Superdome after ever big play made by the Saints and blew up among Saints fans. By October, it was used all over New Orleans and surrounding South Louisiana at just about any athletic event. It was pretty much the go to chant here from Fall of 93 to Spring of 94.
Apparently, Greg Gagne didn't think Charlie Norris' rain dance was "authentic" enough, so he performed HIS version of a rain dance in front of Norris to show him what it REALLY should look like. Yikes.
0:14 I didn't know Brian Zane is a lost member of the Village People. Just kidding, I like the costume, Z-Master. I can't wait to see you crash through a wall like the Kool-aid Man. :)
Z-Man, I like how you got everyone thinking that you are The Shockmaster, when you and I both know that this is your homage to Kanyon and Mark Starr collectively known as Men At Work. 😁
The 1993 feud between Cactus Jack and Vader made me a lifelong fan of Mick Foley. He became my favorite wrestler then, replacing Hulk Hogan. I was around 13 years old when this rivalry was ongoing.
He's amazing. You wouldn't think someone who looks like him could pull off the agile moves he does, especially that 450. He's not built like some small gymnast
Mick Foley bleeding during this match actually gave him more heat with management and Eric Bischoff, and gave him more reason to want out of WCW. The ear injury in Germany, and the promo on Ric Flair while spitting on the tag team title a year later would be the final straw.
It also reminds me of just how useless Vader's mask was. It came off no sooner than the match started. In fact there's hardly a Vader match where his mask doesn't fall off.
I am really enjoying this video.. It's the 3rd one I've seen so far . He does a fine job of commentary along with videos as he goes . You have an A from me.. Thanks for taking the time to do this.. It is very informative and fun..
Huh. I had no idea Ice Train was in WCW after 1998. Ah, but we know from numerous other episodes in his career that The Assassin always wore a second mask!😂
If I remember right, The Assassin and Paul Orndorff became associated when Orndorff began to feud with Dustin Rhodes. The story is that at that year's Slamboree where both Dusty Rhodes and The Assassin where honored with other legends at a "Legends Ceremony" with the first class of the WCW Hall of Fame (Assassin would go in 94, Dusty in 95, and it was forgotten). The Assassin "hated Rhodes" and wanted to end both Dusty and Dustin. Since Orndorff began a small feud with Dustin for the US title, the Assassin began to manage him. When it was blown off, the Assassin stayed with Orndorff with everyone claiming he was good at "Calming down Orndorff from the 'Paula' chants".
Inzane Brian Zane! I know you don’t wrestle often, but I would love to see you enter a rumble style match, and every time you get thrown out, you’d be back as another gimmick in a few entries. Don’t you have like 8 gimmicks? Lol 😂
This is going to be a great October PPV review lineup! Halloween Havoc 93 was a memorable one for me, finally catching up on these PPVs all these years later. And I love the SS 96 Bret vs. Austin match. It doesn't have the finality and the emotional buildup of the second one, but from a technical standpoint, I honestly like it more than WM 13's match.
He also left in early-'94. Came back in early-'96. Also-- when he made his '2nd' comeback in 2000... he went under a different name. VQ (?) 'Smooth'; or something like that... Definitely the 'Smooth' part.....
