wd40 doesn't affect line
@jasonlopez4855

WD-40 is 10% oil and 89% mineral spirits 1% non freeze in it and does nothing to plastic. It is not break cleaner with Lacquer thinner. Just saying my grandfather to me has used WD-40 for to long. I've been using Zebco momo lines for I've years no problem for me. My dad used Stran line.

WD-40 is one of, if not the least aggressive solvents there is. Nylon (as in nylon monofilament) Is very resistant to chemicals so I see no reason to worry if one splashes WD40 on their line. Just wipe it off and fish.

I don't care for Berkely line of any type! I would like to see this test with what I beleive to be the best flouocarbon on the market, Seaguar!

I use wd 40 as knot lube for floro to keep from burning the line on the cinch and never had an issue with breakages and I try to rip the lips off the fish.
@B_the_Cameraman
@B_the_Cameraman 5 лет назад
That was exactly what I found. Wd-40 had zero effect on the line but not carefully tying that knot can easily burn flouro and severely weaken it

Some people use WD40 on lures as attractant. I awas wonering if WD 40 can be used to condition the line. Thanks for sharing.
@B_the_Cameraman
@B_the_Cameraman 4 года назад
It didn't really seem to effect the line that much, so possibly. As far as an attractant, because it is oil based the fish would not be able to sense it. Think about it, oil will not dissolve in water. It stays on the surface. I understand some swear by it but from a science stand point it doesn't add up. Any oil based scent falls in that category for that matter unless they have parts that are water soluble.

Giday I have has 20lb mono on my surf rods for coming up on 16 years without changing line , im still pulling out fish that weigh anywhere from 5lb to over 100lb on that line....... my best was a 190lb bronze whaler shark (did use a 100lb stainless leader for that) so I think changing out your line every year is only good for the retailers. My best catch last year was a 101lb kingfish on a $10 kids rod and reel with 6lb line on it and a trout fly...... I was just having fun with a school of Kahawai (2-5lbs) when the kingfish hit me. I brought that rod for my 7 y/o daughter...... she is now 35 y/o..... still using the same mono that was on it when new. My rods all live in the garage out of direct sun , and I believe that has a lot to do with line life. Enjoyed your test and kinda knew what the outcome would be but interesting all the same...... Cheers mate from New Zealand

I bottom fish in the Atlantic ocean off shore with 17 to 120lb mono and 100 to 200lb fluoro when I get home I wash my rods and reels with soap and hot water then I rinse with cool water then spray wd-40 on every thing line, guides and reels. I never change my line due to the wd-40 I never have a problem I do change my line once a year unless I get spooled. I use a Daiwa 610 cod conventional reel with custom rod for bottom fishing and a Daiwa sealine 50h or Daiwa 900h reel for lite lining or trolling for king mackerel, dolphin fish, tuna and other top water fish.

well you've made a believer out of me I'm using 8lb Berkeley trilene xt extra tough monofilament and done some weight test on it it's capable of holding almost 12lb before the line had broke and the knots I'm using is a double Palomar knot I'll be using WD-40 From here on out thanks for posting this video on youtube thumbs up

Mono is definantly more abrasion resistant than floro.

Very interesting results! I’m not a fan of WD-40. Hilco is my choice. Never had a issue with either on messing my line up. This was a great video man! Very professional way you did the testing!

I really appreciate that. I am thinking about trying out different knots on fluoro to see which works best to not cause what you saw in the video.

I never knew you had to clean your line. Learning a lot here
@B_the_Cameraman
@B_the_Cameraman 5 лет назад
Lol. You don't have to clean your line. But folks that clean their reels sometimes get the cleaner, WD40, on their line and claim that it will ruin and weaken the line.

I've simply always stayed away from using wd-40 do to the fact it's one got a bad odor and two doesn't easily wash away. So my thought was always it would cause fish to not hit my lures if wd-4o odor was present. I've always just used stuff made for reels. And I always begin lubricating and tossing my lines on weeks apart from each other lubricating first then line and it's always worked for me.. But still a very interesting video thanks for sharing..
