We’re back on the property! After taking some time off to let the ground dry, we’re back with a vengeance.
Our plan this trip is to expand our cabin site. We’ve decided to open up the area above where our tent sits so that we can eventually put in a garden and barn. The grouse have been very active and spent a lot of time with us now that we’re back. when we purchased the property, we placed cameras up so that we could observe what day-to-day life is like when we aren’t around . While watching our cameras we saw moose, grouse, and rabbits. Our presence on the property since returning has not interfered with their schedules at all! Our longest resident a large male spruce grouse, that we have aptly named Chunky, has been visiting us both day and night.
We are looking forward to moving forward on clearing and leveling the ground. We are doing our best to keep as many mature, healthy trees as possible. we are doing this with the intent to install grouse boxes to help promote and protect the population we have.
Our first night back we did two supply runs to and from the truck, then had a quiet fire with the dogs. We came back with new gear to new sleeping bags 0°, a a cot, a 25 pound propane tank, and the adapters to run that to our heater. The next morning we got up and formulated a plan to begin expanding the site that we have been clearing. We chopped up, downed trees and fell many spruce beetle kill trees. We have found that the spruce beetle kill is very dry and will make great firewood. Travis made a firewood drying rack from milled logs off from our clearing efforts. Our plan for the rest of the weekend is to cut in the driveway and expand on the road so that we can get ready for equipment
