This is a very mature decision, and to the people saying ‘this has to be a prank’ or ‘love doesn’t exist’ it very much does exist and there Is proof of that in this video, you have to understand that love isn’t just being in a straight forward relationship, it’s about being there for the people you love and the people who need you, treating them with respect and kindness, loving them for who they are, that is what love is, Austin and Lexi are normal human beings with their own ups and downs and have every right in the world to take a break and help themselves. Social media, while there are so many ups, the amount of downs there are is immaculate, it can be very unhealthy, a relationship can only grow when the two people feel happy and secure. I'm 35 and I still haven't learned how to openly communicate to avoid the problems. I find it super tricky to ask for what I need & sometimes to even understand what I need. Good on you for being so vulnerable - these aren't problems that are unique or new & every relationship has similar struggles. As a man that suffers from severe depression and who's wife also picked up the slack for a long time, I have nothing to offer other than I understand what you're going through. My wife and I have almost broken up several times and I don't know what the solution is. Just stay strong and do whatever you have to do to keep each other in your lives.

My husband and I also took a break in our relationship when we were dating (I was 23, he was 25 at the time). We ended up working through our problems and finding happiness with each other, and we decided to get married! These days, our communication is better than it's ever been. I am 100% behind your decision. Being a mental health counselor in training and having gone through depression myself, it's important to take care of yourself. An analogy I love to use is "you cannot take care of others until you take care of yourself." Think of the pre-flight demonstration and the oxygen masks. They always tell you to put it on yourself before helping the person next to you. You will come back a stronger, more loving person if you put the work into it. My uncle and his wife took a break from each other, too, because they were not 100% sure they were moving in the right direction. They got back together soon after and were married in 2001 (still married to this day; their anniversary in June will mark 22 years together!). I am keeping you both in my prayers. :)

7:52 Austin, I just wanna say that you and lexi have nothing to apologize for to us, and ultimately, you and lexis' health, emotional and physical, are far more important to us than content. Because you both are human beings just like the rest of us. Do whatever you need to do, we'll be here. In regards to your father, this is only a suggestion, but don't hesitate to set boundaries with your father. I learned that after getting out of an abusive narcissist friendship that nearly killed me by unaliving myself, that boundaries are healthy and needed in some cases. And if you set boundaries and your father refuses to respect them, then he's not willing to respect you. That's what i learned with my narc. Those boundaries mean something to you, and if they can't respect them, then they can't respect you or your wishes. If you feel your father and your relationship with your father is taking too much of a toll, don't hesitate to put yourself first over the relationship with your father. Set boundaries to keep yourself emotionally safe. I don't know every detail of the story, so what I say might help or might come across as bad advice. Set boundaries for your dad if you feel something is getting toxic. And to listen to yourself and step away. As a last resort (I cannot emphasize that enough) if you cannot repair your relationship with your father and it continues to pull you further and further down, as a last resort you might need to cut ties to save yourself. It'll be a painful thing for both parties, but some things might not be able to be saved. But as I mentioned, it's a last resort thing. As someone who has dealt with a lot of trauma over my entire life, talking with your supports, therapy, doing things you love, and doing things for YOU can help. Don't be afraid to cry. Keeping it all in kills. Or almost does in my case. Do things that you love, whether it be gaming, exercise, meditation, or something else. Take care of yourself first. You can't rebuild anything if you yourself are cracking or collapsing. It might sound selfish, but it's not. Take each day one step at a time. You and Lexi will survive so long as you take care of yourself. You can do this, man. I know it might not mean as much as it would coming from someone you know, but know that I believe in you. We all do. You can win this. And one thing to mention: Use hotlines if you need to talk to someone as well. They're a great resource and have helped me so much. You don't need to be willing to unalive yourself to use them. And remember: You can do this. I know you can. ❤

If we can cant like, love or take care of ourselves, we cant truly extend the same to others - at least not without some fallout. Prioritizing yourselves is so important and I really hope you both get the help and support you need from people able to help and support you. The world is so big, scary and overwhelming. I’m just 22 and its hard reconciling the fact that we’re so young - our brains arent even fully formed - but that this is the oldest we have been and the responsibilities we have are serious ones. As a man who has struggled with an extremely difficult relationship with my father, I understand exactly where you're coming from. I've spent 20 years in that cycle of depression, fighting desperately against those demons. And I've only just recently began realizing how pervasive that darkness can run. Those same feelings have led to the demise of my romantic relationships as well. You being able to be open and self-reflective and honest with yourself is honestly inspiring to me. I admire the strength and courage that it took for you to make this video. I sincerely hope the best for both you and Lexi, and I sincerely hope you never give up fighting, for yourself or for her. I may be a decade older than you Sir, but your courage has brought me to tears today. It's also renewed hope in myself. Don't give up, don't ever stop fighting. You're not alone.

Seek counseling for you and Lexi. Don't just walk away. Focus on making peace with your mom's passing. Know that losing a parent will always hurt. Have you ever had a serious talk with your dad? You aren't alone it's reality that couples go through things.

Austin describing how happy and then worse he got is a very sad reality of depression. Depression absolutely sucks and it can ruin your life and the lives of those that you love and care about. Austin shouldn't feel guilty for not being able to help in that time of his life. But it's also good that he's reflecting on that time and knowing what went wrong. I dated my partner from the age of 17-22. We love each other and loved each other back then but we were dealing with a lot of issues within our personal lives and we fell into the trap of not taking care of ourselves to try to take care of each other. We decided to break up even though we loved each other so that we would focus more on improving ourselves and figuring out what we want. We stayed friends as we enjoy each other's company and have a lot of mutual friends. At 26 we decided to get back together and it has been better than it ever was before. We went and became more of the people we wanted to be and now we're more stable than ever in ourselves and in our relationship. I don't think we met at the wrong time, we needed each other back then. But taking a break was what we needed to grow more since we were just kids when we fell in love at first. I really hope Austin and Lexi have a very similar story.

Taking a break is extremely important.. Looking inwards is always the number one thing. You guys have taught the world what love really is. Even if you don't see it, we see it. We see you guys love and each other, and yes, we see a whole bunch of other things too. I've already noticed that there was something going on and not with the videos but with your guys's eyes. I see the love in your eyes to the point that it breaks my heart just listening to this video. But at the same time, I am so glad that you are doing another teachable moment and showing everybody what it is like to be like. You are showing what's called a butterfly effect. And just to let you know me and my husband and I had to split up for a while. It was for reasons, and narcissistic people are awful, and in this case, I don't see any of that in you and who use surround yourself with. They've all been loving people who have accepted everything that is going on. We came back and opened up, and we realized that being together was the better decision. We are 23 years into this relationship. I have had friends that have the same look, the same love. They ended up in divorce, all because they didn't want to breathe, without the other. You're still the simp king, bit you're the simp king that was one we needed to see. That taught the world, laughter, live, love, and the one we all dont like; heartache. Thank you. Austin. In my book, that's what a simp is. Someone who is like you and my husband. Loving, loyal, love to joke and laugh.

As someone who has severe chronic depression and very recently was forced to breakup with my boyfriend, I completely understand where you guys are coming from and how hard this is for you guys. Don't rush back in because you feel pressured or feel you *need* to put something out. Be you, and don't worry about what someone on the other side of the device thinks about your decision. It’s great that Austin is acknowledging how much effort and energy and work Lexi has put in to everything from THEIR career to THEIR relationship and to taking care of him, and it’s great he’s also acknowledging that he wasn’t upholding his end of things, that’s a great start. I see how much you love Lexi and how much Lexi loves you. And as a person who really wants to find someone that special I agree with taking a break. You shouldn't risk making things worse and you both should get in a good spot where you both can be happy and comfortable together. Depression is one of the WORST things but I know you can get through it. I love seeing people who are willing to share even when they aren't doing well because it makes others feel like we aren't alone. You guys can do this and we will be happy when you are happy.
