5:55 Thai vowels has 5 tones. If you pronounce NAM “JIM” in low tone jim will mean “pussy”. Correct tone is higher and jim will mean “Dipping”. JIM JAEW = Isaan sauce. If you pronounce JAEW with higher tone it will mean AWESOME or cool. The correct tone is lowest tone = isaan sauce. Think about the melodies in singing. Thai intonation is like that.

Oh yes the language is so beautiful and really sounds like singing… so it’s easy to get the tones wrong and the meaning completely changes 😂😅

U guys, this meal style looked exactly like d Malaysian Chinese steam boat, u dipped d meat, seafood n veg into d hot broth, sometimes it alternatively comes with a hot plate to grill d chosen protein or veg. Delicious, esp on a cold weather.

The repeated mispronunciation of นำ้จิ้ม (dipping sauce) as นำ้จิ๋ม (vaginal fluid) was hilarious. It is also funny that the first person to make this error was the fluent Thai speaker, Note (at 5:41). Many years ago I taught English in Thailand. A fellow teacher decided, one day, to tell the students (who were about 10 years old) about snow, or in Thai หิมะ (hima). He mispronounced it as หีม้า (hee maa), which means horse's vagina. Unfortunately, he had learned how to write in Thai, and he wrote หีม้า on the board and all the students diligently copied this into their notebooks which they brought proudly back to show their parents. You might guess that the parents would be furious (because Thais are quite conservative), but in fact they found it hilarious.

There are three morals to this story: Morals 1 and 2: if you want to speak Thai clearly then it is very important to use the correct tones and to pronounce the vowels for the correct duration. I am Thai. The soup is one factor to make Moo Kata unique to the Thai style. We enjoy the soup especially when you put a lot of stuff in there and wait 15 mins later. I confirm that Thai people eat soup with suki sauce. It is mixed of grilled and boiled cooking method ^^

regarding the chopstick thing, I usually use the same end for both raw and cooked meat. The heat already cook all the juice left on the stick, and if I really want to be safe, i just dip it in the soup.
