The EMD SD40-2's America's workhorses. Great to see them old troopers still earning their keep. Love the sound of those ol'girls. Great video. SW Pennsylvania. To bad you didn't put the different locations on a caption. That would've been really cool.
At the 15:30 mark, that's a cool LED block signal with an oval target. Anybody know what kind of signal this is. It's not a Vader, not a Tri-light nor is it a Searchlight Signal.
Man that was awesome, them SD40’s were screaming their guts out! That’s pretty damn impressive they got that thing moving again after it stalled. Number 4000 is one you don’t see too often, just a regular SD40, not equipped with dynamic braking. Love the push/pull action at the end. Excellent video👍🏼😁🇺🇸🎄
Sad that 4 engines are having that much trouble. Does that mean the load is too heavy? This run needs at least one more engine. Its like watching the fat kid running up hill. I was one so I know
They were running with only the first and third unit on. When they stopped to get a crew change, the third unit was shut.off for some reason but they got it running again and continued on their way. The second unit was having issues with a traction motor and I'm not sure why the 4th wasn't running
Clearly the tractive effort is not adapted this this convoy. There should have been a miscalculation somewhere... As a general rule, I found fret trains in the US to be too heavy with respect to the track quality and aligment, and with respect to the couplers resistance. Amazing the number of broken couplers that can were "catched" on video... Here at @6:50, the trains need to be separated in two half to go thru the grade...
I watching the SD's struggling on the grade had me recalling a CN RS-10 pulling a 100 plus car train from Moncton, NB to Saint John NB with it going no more then 15 mph at best. I have seen NBSR struggling on the grade going west or having in need of helper units. the SD's roared.
As a Retired "Hobo" train hopper (Moniker: Boxcar Johnny) I really enjoy your videos. Contrl Chief stuff was not on any Locomotives I rode, I quit in 2017 turned 62 got Deep Low Cost riding Amtrak! Yes, I went from F.T.R.A. to Amtrak Preferred Customer.
they run an interesting operation with that push/pull deal on that branch to houston. i wonder what other traffic they move on that branch throughout the year, other than those tankers to and from houston
Of course, the best way to get a stalled train upgrade is to double the hill- cut the train in half , bring the first half up to the top of the grade, put it in a siding and then get the rest of the train up to the top of the grade, get the first half, put it together and carry on.
I highly doubt that they would get it moving again after stalling on a hill without additional locos to help. My guess is that they stopped to cool off traction motors before they overheated. DC traction has left the building due to this and other reasons especially in territories with long, steep grades. Love the video and the SD40 locomotives in action.
@pootispiker2866 And you play to many Rail Simulator games. I can't find anything about motor simulator cards anywhere except Train Sim Games. I highly doubt even if they do exist tht the railroad in question has done any real expensive upgrades to locomotives. But enjoy criticizing people, I'm sure that's the only thing your good at. Besides making things up
This video just came up .. love the paint scheme ❤ well done to the Loco Engineer for getting the train moving again. There is a technique, not sure if the American Loco Engineers use it, to get a stalled train moving. I've used it often ( ex Loco Engineer myself, New Zealand). I've subscribed! Your other videos look great, should keep me busy watching them . Cheers
Thank you! They got a crew change where they stopped at and couldn't start moving again because the third locomotive shut off and only that one and the lead unit were operating. They definitely did a good job at running this train
Those last two orange and black diesel locomotives 🚂 look very similar to one of the background locomotives used in the movie 🎥 unstoppable or maybe they are from the defunct Denver and Rio Grande Western railroad, because both the movie, and D&RGW have the same colors.
There were also black engines with orange front and rear orange stripes that were used in the 1996 movie "Switchback" with Dennis Quaid, however the RR company was Rio Grande.
You guys must not live near train tracks. , It's easier for them to push the long end than pull it, which causes less weight for the train to pull. Which lightens their load.
What was the point of this video? Its a train and it stopped whats the big deal and why would you film it ? Was their something on the track that caused the engines to stop pulling? Hell there are 4 engines start them all up just don't strain one. You rail fans are some strange people. Get excited when a train goes by.
@@goose4284 Just trying to understand what was going on here is all. Pull up then back up unhook cars pull up then back up and pull the cars again what was the point of that procedure?
