Lots of Americans and Canadians living in Mexico are working for Dollars (or Canadian Dollars) while spending Pesos. In this video, I interview 6 (including myself) people who have careers that allow them to work from anywhere (at least part of the time.)
These aren't low-skill or mass-produced jobs. Each of us worked to create careers that allow us to work remotely. You can do it too! I recently interviewed a doctor who moved to Mexico after leaving behind clinical work and focusing on research instead. Many job skills are transferable to working remotely. You just need to be creative. The folks from this video are: a fashion designer, an author/RU-vidr, an attorney, a business consultant, a physical therapist and a virtual videographer.
Check out Ada and Stefan from Living Simply in Mexico

And Shaun and Astrid from Shaun in Paradise

The pandemic has opened up many new opportunities and acceptance of working remotely. Maybe you can work remotely 100% of the time, or maybe you need to go back and forth. Or maybe you don't have an office, but need to visit clients. All are compatible with life in Mexico!
You don't need to wait until you retire to move to Mexico (or anywhere else - I just like Mexico.)

BRIGHTON! Thank you so much again for including us in your video! I think more people really need to hear Stefan's advice: the future is NOT promised. For anyone here that decides to stumble over to our channel... While my channel is more focused on our lives, we are happy to help! Love and besos to all, Shaun in Paradise :)

Maybe I should have put Stefan's advice at the beginning of the video! There are no guarantees that you'll make it to your retirement day, or even a day past that.

@@AlmostRetiredinMexico Thank you so much Brighton for the creative discussion and making of this motivational and informative video. Wow, I’m blown away on how well everyone is juggling their life in Mexico as well as their primary employment and side hustles. This was not only impressive but inspiring. I’m planning to move my mom and wife (and dog) in 2024. I have to really think on what I can do as a side hustle to keep me busy. I kinda like the surfing idea best but I don’t know how to surf, lol (yet!). I do love photography and Photoshop as a hobby, so we’ll see. Unfortunately, having been a deputy sheriff for ten years and a correctional officer for 14 years, I cannot work remotely with this skill. Ugh. I subscribe to everyone here and loved seeing all of you chillin’ at Stephan and Ada’s beautiful home. Ada, if you ever need a house sitter for a week… just saying.. 😊.. everyone take care.

@@luciadiane6682 Thanks for watching! Do you want to remain in the law enforcement world? There are remote investigator positions (for insurance companies, private investigators, etc) or you could work for any company that works with police departments. Just some ideas to get you thinking: www.indeed.com/jobs?q=Law+Enforcement&l=Remote&redirected=1&vjk=efbadd4f16ddd7ba Also, I'm hoping to do a video on "moving to Mexico with mom." Hello Brighton!! Wow....another powerful video with great words of encouragement! This is an awesome compilation of interviews that highlights some ways that people can make a transition to Mexico work. I did subscribe to your two channel guests; they both look like awesome couples out there enjoying life. I currently get a pension for my first career; which will be for life. And if something happens to me, my wife will get half of it for her life. I retired from that first career at 46 yrs old. Afterwards, I did a career change and am clipping away at a second career. This "new" career does not offer a pension, but I do make more than my first career. So, this new one has given us the ability to deal with what I call "the Big 3"; pay off house, pay cash for both kid's college, and modernize (and pay off) our car fleet. Aside from having a daughter, which presumably means "pay for wedding", the Big 3 are usually most folks' big expenses. The last component, our house, should be paid off this December 2022. And my daughter gets married in July 2023. In listening to your various videos, and adding in what Stefan said at the end of this one, it becomes a decision of doing something now as we may not have a later. I've generally always planned to work this second career until I'm 60; this allows for achieving the Big 3 and also to plus up the bank account. But, fact of the matter is that my pension is well above what it costs to live in Mexico. Or, I should say "we could live in Mexico and still do a lot of things, as well as have a very decent lifestyle". The downside to acting now is that we would not have 100s of thousands of bucks in the bank; which would be counter to most financial advisors recommendations. Of course, I could also be hit by a Mack Truck while trying to secure those 100s of thousands of bucks. Safe travels to you two! PS. Yes....we have our plane tickets and hotel reservations paid for our first exploratory trip there!! Only a month away!!
@AlmostRetiredinMexico

Looks like you have a great plan (even by "financial planner" standards.) Sooner or later a Mack Truck (or metaphorical Mack Truck) hits us all.

Wow wow wow what Stephen said at the end is what my 23 yo son and I (42) talk about all the time. Someone that I love very much passed at 43 and he was so healthy and strong, very full of life. I’ve really changed my perspective on life since he passed. I’ve been working hard to make plans to move back to Mexico. My part time job right now is looking for a remote position. I used to live in PV and I miss the culture and LIFE there so very much. I appreciate your videos so much. I feel inspired by your content and the interviews you put together l. Thank you! Also, if you have any suggestions on remote work 🙏🏼 😉

Awesome video sir, I really liked the informal questions with the various couples. I love the mindset of “pulling the trigger because you’ll spend all of your life preparing for early retirement”. I am also looking at doing a part time remote work situation, as I am a management consultant as well!

Very good advice. Thanks. The other thing I got from this video is that Kat is an Enviro Lawyer ? Cooool . You or Kat or both should look up Owls head . A Connecticut Billionaire wanted us Canadians to support his wants to build a Golf course or 3 on a barren landscape unchanged for thousands of years. With the usual endangered species flora and fauna. As some of the 1st to join, it was comforting to defeat the government and stop the golf courses. It is now designated as a provincial park. Yay us ! Keep those vids coming. P n D

I've been living here all my life and sadly, I have the possibility of being deported recently. I am not a bad person, nor have I ever committed a crime. I am 21 and you would think I would fall into a bad person since my environment is a bunch of crackheads and lazy bums but I've been able to live a normal life. I work as an electrician and I am planning on setting up a business in Cancun and a couple other tourist areas so I can charge American prices but take it back to my hometown where I was born, in Guadalajara. I moved when I was 1.5 years old so I consider myself American but sadly, the system doesn't. My English speaking skills will help me drastically and education from here will take me a long way 😊
@AlmostRetiredinMexico
@AlmostRetiredinMexico Год назад
Sorry to hear about your situation. I was glad to see that there wasn't a "red wave" yesterday. It seems like you're a "Dreamer" and the D's seem to be more supportive than the R's. Your English skills will definitely help - you can hire Spanish speaking electricians and you'd be the person who works directly with the clients. You also have the ability to work to US building codes if a client should desire that. My architect failed to put GFCI breakers for our pool, and my wife refuses to get in until we get it upgraded to US standards.

@@AlmostRetiredinMexico never thought about that 🫶🏽 US code is more valuable and muscle memory for me. I love this county for the great people willing to help 🇺🇸. I was interested in buying property's aswell since I don't get tourist taxed and setting up an Airbnb typa thing in Mexico for my American clients. All the great skills I learned here, I'm grateful for the residency I had these past years. Hopefully they do allow me to get citizenship, I've been 5 years with the green card, clean record, sober, and loving 🇲🇽 Have a great day

It takes creativity and persistence. One guy I interviewed had been a teacher and a photographer. He was also a techie. He combined that and now gives tours where he teaches people how to take better photos with their smartphone. So you need to reflect on what value you can provide and what excites you. You may not be able to get a residency visa, but you could get s tourist visa for 6 months at a time.
