We are going to cross Rwanda and Tanzania in less than 10 days, more than 2500km, because we are burned out and need to escape from this situation.
There is no one single reason for us being burned out, but several we discuss in the video. We never thought we would be feeling this way. I didn't know that travel burnout could be a thing. But one thing is sure, we need to move on.
In our escape, we will cross stunning places in Rwanda and Tanzania!
Lake Kivu and inland Tanzania being the highlights.
Enjoy the Ride!

Another enjoyable video. In terms of oil changes I think alot depends on the environment you are in, I change oil in my old 110 every 2 years as milage is lows and its always damp. Juts as important is to keep an eye on the levels everywhere, gearbox, transfer & differentials - if its not leaking its probable empty! Also mine leaks water when raining in all those spots!
@Thebluelandy
@Thebluelandy Год назад
Haha no don’t worry, as we stated the car was dry and didn’t leak oil, now it developed leaks everywhere so it’s easy to see that there is still oil where it should be😂 But I also do top up here and there! If you top up don’t forget the swivel housing!

Good afternoon. I stumbled upon your channel recently and I have to say it has been awesome. Working on going back and seeing where your trip began, and will be following to see where you go. Love the fact you took a less-traveled overland route through Iran. I know it's often a country that is skipped. Hopefully one day it will be open to all to see. I’d really like to see the two of you meet with Leigh and Steph from @GrizzlyNbearOverland once they start the African portion of their trip. Meeting up with other Rover overlanders is always fun. Again, awesome channel and content thus far, keep posting and always have fun. Will be looking forward to the next video.

It’s advisable to follow the handbook. For older engines use the better ‘older engines’ synthetic oil. Paying for the expensive higher rated oil is usually a waste of money. Send a message to the S.A. LR Club for its opinion? Cheers. 👍🏻🙏🦘

Thanks for the info! We also got a lot of options rising this question on Instagram. It turns out 7-10k is what’s recommended under heavy use (like we do). Therefore we’ll change oil every 10k

To your questions in the video: We do not rotate our tyres - as when the time comes we buy new ones (we as well drive the mud terrains or the all terrains from bf. About the oil changes: When we travel and use the LR as our "home" we change oil and airfilter or clean the K&N once every 10 000 km - if we just use the Landy on normal streets and for going to work etc. - then we change it every 15 000 km - it as well depends if we find the golden castrol ;) - or the cheaper stuff which does the job too... - for a TD5 you can probably use tractor oil ;) - whilst for a TD4 it's recommended to use the proper stuff ;)
@Thebluelandy
@Thebluelandy Год назад
I personally don’t like the MT in the Snow the AT performant way better! How much mileage do you get out of a set AT‘s without rotating them? Regarding the oil changes, after some debate n Instagram we went back to 10k for the engine. Thanks for the help.

We got 70K with a lot of tire killing terrain and need new ones soon but that’s with rotating the spare tire in which should give us 20% more mileage in theory…

Hey Michael, thanks for watching! I gotta say it was weird, after driving so long on the wrong side, I got used to it. For me it doesn’t make much difference on which side I drive, as long as you have a good passenger that can tell you when to pass/over take a truck.

You guys do a really nice job producing your videos they are very entertaining to watch. I change the oil every 5,000 miles on my 2 cars and I use full synthetic, on my GMC 3500 Duramax diesel 4 wheel drive truck I change the oil every 3,000 miles. When we are traveling with our RV I don't like staying in any one area more than 4 days maximum anymore than that and I start getting bored. All of those people would drive me crazy I blame foreign aid for the overpopulation, foreign aid mainly makes politicians and well connected people rich, it doesn't do anything to address the overpopulation that keeps these people living very poor lives.

Frequency of engine oil changes should depend on how hard the vehicle is used. We tow a caravan here in Australia, so I change our engine oil every 10,000 kms. Fully understand why you become burnt out under the 'you foreigner, you rich attitude. We have encountered that in Asia too. Water leaks seem to be a standard feature of Defenders. Check the roof joints, door seals and gutters. Silicone is your friend. Enjoying your videos.

Thank you! We went back to the 10k schedule. I agree, I think we do ask quite a bit from our car so 10 k should be good. It’s good to hear that we’re not alone with it, I can understand both sides but that doesn’t change that that attitude can really kill your vibe. We’re in the moment in dryer climate so the leaks don’t matter, sealing them is postponed 😂🤷‍♂️. I normally use sika flex, it’s meant for cars but with all the movement you have in the cabin it checks after a while…

You can’t change your oil often enough as far as I’m concerned, it all comes down to cost and inconvenience, I do mine every 6000 miles so 10000km, and always with the best quality oil possible. Never ever skimp on tyres, brakes and engine oil.

@Thebluelandy
@Thebluelandy Год назад
Hey Chicco, Lake Viktoria was never on our route there for we missed out on this spots. We go to the places we are interested in not necessary the places with the most wild camping 😅 I never traveled with a guide, and I don’t see why I should. it’s on one side a financial issue guides are normally quite expensive and on a long trip, like we are doing it, it is to costly. On the other side will a guide always give me the impression that I see a place or meet a person cause I’m paying for it. Not cause it’s a genuine interest of the person or that I discover a new place. This is part of our adventure and makes day by day Interactions more interesting.

What’s the answer traveling in a Toyota? It doesn’t happen, cause I need to work 10 years more to afford car and fuel 😅 I that Case I rather deal with one breakdown in 120k km as a Defender pilot, some wet feet, and the noise. And there for be on the road and make memories. It’s not an adventure until something goes wrong…. Is it?

Thanks! Sorry for the harsh answer 😅, I’m just a bit tired hearing my car is better than a Defender. I strongly believe every car can be a bitch if the previous owner was a clown and didn’t do maintenance or if you don’t learn how to take care of a car. I had a T4 Syncro it was fun it was silent I loved it, but the history was not great and it produced a lot of problems and you couldn’t drive it in the rain cause the air filter would get wet and would clock/break the MAF sensor….

We season yuuuup is wet and muddy. All part of the journey. Oil change it can never be too much it is cheap engine insurance. Has a lot to do with where you traveling(conditions and quality of air and fuel and speed traveling etc etc etc. 10k is good for the Landy I don't think I would stretch it to 20k often. Carry oil and filter with you and do it at a stop you at. FYI Toyota LC 1HD I try do every 5k. Regards from ZA

@Thebluelandy Год назад
Ouh yeah, we are experiencing all types of weather, well... So far we didn't get to experience freezing temperatures for long periods of time. Let's see in South America how it goes! Regarding the oil change, you are absolutely right, it is an insurance. A good friend told us the same, that even though the Defender Manual states 20.000 km interval, this applies for Europe and for Africa or South America one should consider half, due to air quality & diesel quality. We are back to 10.000 km like we used to. But this means 4 engine oil changes a year 😵🙈
@Thebluelandy
@Thebluelandy Год назад
Ouh and regarding the suggestion to take some oil with us and do it on the road, we avoid it, because we don't have a safe place to dispose the old oil. So we normally do it at established workshops. Back at home I used to do it myself as there is disposal point in my city.👍
@deriusnorris4463
@deriusnorris4463 Год назад
@@Thebluelandy I throw it in the old bottles where the new oil came out and drop it off at the local petrol station and dunno the filter there too (they usually reuse or burn as fuel or treat wood for preservation with it, even I now use it on wooden fences lol).

@Thebluelandy
@Thebluelandy Год назад

It’s difficult to explain, we don’t like to drive from camp to camp or lodge to lodge. It gives me the feeling you’re looked away from the world at night, and during the day you drive past it… east Africa was difficult in many ways. You need a guide for all activities, live stops when you stop in a village every one stares, you can not talk to anyone at eye level, wild camping and moving around freely is difficult. It was beautiful but for all those reasons not the ideal destination for us.
