Episode 103 - We are Closing our Spanish Bank Account in Torrevieja, Costa Blanca Between the Lakes Mike & Yvonne
Our non-resident Spanish Bank is proving too expensive at 40€ every quarter. That's 160€ per year. Because of this we have opened a Wise account which gives us everything we need to pay our Direct Debits, get cash and buy/pay for all that we need. Most places take cards now, so not as much cash is required as it used to be. COVID helped this situation as Cash was considered a threat to passing on the virus, so more and more businesses started taking the card and the card companies made it for cost-effective.
We also had a trip to La Zenia Boulevard, Playa Flamenca Beach and ended up having a nice mixed salad at Pizzeria D'Ban Restaurante - on the beach by Dialprix at Torrevieja, (on the junction of Calle Montesinos and Av. Desiderio Rodriguez).

Our favourite place down there is La Mirada restaurant which overlooks La Zenia beach. Will be there this coming week - arrive ALC 23rd April to stay with friends in San Miguel de Salinas and get into our favourite restaurants in the pueblo. Dona Isabel and Meson el Prado for menu del dia !!!

campamor beach just down from lazenia was a fav people watching bar for me, just a side comment from the chat below, when we went to egypt we were told to try not using local currancy as they pass on many health issues due to them being dirty from locals now washing. you did look tired mike keep active m8

Im with Bankinter, when i went with them first they were great, cashier staff lovely, the branch down by the wayer spray near Alguini restaurant, the other day one cashier, air con was hardly on, cashier couldnt care less about ling queue, she was busy on her phone , i handed her over a €1000 she didnt even acknowledge me, wasnt happy my passport was 2 inches away from her desk cause she had to stand up, i just said ur welcome when i got receipt, cant wait for video and too close my account

Hi Keith, thanks for your comments. Yes, we have had poor service from the bank. It's a shame because they should be making their best efforts and looking after their customers as the online banks may take over completely and then they would close and lose their jobs.

My Spanish tax👍 That's brilliant thanks once again I'm actually watching your program on catch up at the moment, I've got the meaning information I require now which is really important and we can shut our account down. it'll probably be in January now when we come back. Good evening you two 😊 Great video as always with good information 👍🏻 We our Casa in Sucina but not the hassle of all the bureaucracy 😩 We’ve still 11 months after selling up and not had our 3% back from the Spanish government 😩 We call La Zenia Boulevard the Trafford Centre without a roof lol 😆 Our Spanish dream isn’t over as we’re planning on long term rental. We’ve found appointments in the Alicante and Los Alcázares for 28 nights for less than €1000 so that box tax bills etc to pay woohoo 🙌 Take care guys 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

We are with Sabadell but find it about neutral with our free cash advances over the year and pay a similar amount with Halifax so really interested with your findings

Hi PuntaPrimaIanD, We would have liked to have kept the Sabadell account but their charges to us as "non-residents" are very high, so we looked at other ways of doing the same thing for less. We just think the non-resident bank accounts are unfair. We were paying 160€ per year just to have an account. Hi Adam, yes we opened a Wise account a few months before we closed our Sabadell account. We set up all our direct debits and made sure all was working before we closed the Sabadell. We have had zero problems with wise...ru-vid.com?search_query=wise

Hi Yogi, Wise has a Belgian IBAN number. We have had no problem with it…as yet. Don’t know the answer to the second part of your comment, I would say yes but a solicitor may say no…

I recently had to replace my damaged card and it was sent out to me, to my Spanish address for £2.50. I also pay 160euros per year for the privilege of having this account with them and agree it's expensive. Hi Patrick, thanks for watching. Yes, we couldn't afford to stay with them. We opened a wise account and transferred all our DDs to that account no problem. Hi Patrick, yes, we use it for everything including bar bills and supermarket shopping. everybody takes it as it is a Visa card. We have had no problems with it and don't envisage any. The DD's are free and they are very transparent with all very small charges. @@patrickduffy4321

Thanks for watching and for your comment. Wise only charge for what you use, so it's up to you how much the charges are. They are very transparent with their small fees. We transfer money from GBPs to Euros and they charge a small fee for this. With Sabadell, I was paying 160€ per year. Have a look at this video for details on the Wise account. www.youtube.com/@Wise

Hi Debbie, yes we have closed the account and now use Wise Bank. Can’t see any reason why not. Wise do not offer mortgages as far as I know but making payments to anyone shouldn’t be a problem.

I don't think it's a legal requirement to have one but please check as we are not legal experts. All I can say is we haven't got one and do all our banking, money exchanging, and shopping with our Wise account. It saves us the 160€ per year in bank charges.@@sunnybeachwalks4k2022
