@@bannedfromisrael after years of oppression and treated like a subhuman on their land and you thinking is still OK to do that? Which white countries you're referring to? Britain? Hahahaha
Just found this channel because a USP (University of the South Pacific) assignment under UU204 (Pacific Worlds) required we write our thoughts on this video. it was one of 3 videos and I chose this one. There are thousands of students that are required to do this Pacific Worlds course so i am surprised more of them have not found this channel.

Give back New Caledonia 🇳🇨 to the Natives!! God bless you all for the hardship and trials that you’ve went through as a people… Your land was yours from the start and your culture should is unique as well as powerful…God bless you and Ofa Lahi Atu 🇳🇨X🇹🇴🫱🏼🫲🏾
I am in the USA. My people in Africa were/are treated to same way. Heart breaking. (A side note: I don't even know where I am from. Some where in Africa :(
Being taken from Africa is the best thing that could happen to a native african. Now you have plumbing, running water and electricity. And in Africa you'd be taking shower in a cow piss. And you people are very ignorant saying how bad the slavery was, like you don't even know that many people went through much worse hell over the last hundreds or thousands of years.
It's a pity to see another Melanesian country still suffering from colonialism . This people share a resemblance to people in Papua New Guinea . I hope their leaders can work out a better autonomy arrangement with France .
They should give my peoples land back, I'm from Aotearoa (NZ) and have family genes through the Royalty Islands mainly Mare Island as that is where my granddad came from my original last name is Mare and yes I heard what they did to my people this information has been past down through generations from my greats and my grandad is now 106 years old so think about what he saw and experienced and shared.
Hello, i'm caledonian. I've just seen you're comment. I am no expert but i would like to help. I'm not sure of who you can contact for your work but you should contact the UNC (university of New Caledonia), webmestre@unc.nc they might help you or possibly make you in contact with the right people. I hope it's useful, otherwise i'm sorry. Please ask if you think i might help. Wish you luck.
Hi Chrisia, thank you so much for reaching out! I will send an email to the uni, thanks. Perhaps you could help me connect with artists and musicians. I hope to document music and performance, and any way stories have been passed down through time.
@@ForestChaplain just to let you know, i've send a message to the Cultural Centre Tjibaou (who's about art, culture and the history about the kanak) about you and your work. I don't know if they contacted you but here's their email : adck@adck.nc If i can help you more don't hesitate, perharps find an easier way to do so rather than on RU-vid, of course only if you need it. I hope you still get more progress on your side.
And for the 3rd time in a row, the people of New Caledonia voted to stay a part of France. The people in this video are an extremely small minority in the country.
That’s not true. Only 44% of the population voted. Most of the indegenious boycotted the referendum, cause the demanded it to be postponed bc of corona. The Kanak people are not even half of the population, the rest is the descendants of colonizers. It is astonishing to me that France till this day is not willing to give up its colonies. The island kanaky (New Caledonia) is rich with rare ressources.
democracy prevailed! and if the kanaks are now minority then why would they be given right to decide the fate of the land ? they have no right to tell majority what to do, and they are being manipulated by the chinese and have no grasp of big politics
There is a lot to learn from this. We are to respect other cultures and leave them be. Unless that culture decides to migrate to the west then we need to accept them? They obviously do not accept the west. Why do we accept them?
Good point. I was there under curfew, locked down in Noumea during the 1988 separatist rebellion. Its fraught and complicated. When the west walks away there is a price to pay for both sides. Life's a wager.
Imagine if another country came to your country and violently and systemically overtook it and your people. You can't begin to understand the depth of exploitation the west has undertaken in colonised countries, and this history directly contributes to the quality of life that the west enjoys. Challenge your privilege, your white saviour complex, and your condescendence.
honestly we don't give a fuck about it, mentally we know that we are on our ancesters land and nobody could take this away from us and can we really talk about "victory" when majority of Kanaks decides to boycott the referendum ? 🤣
They talk about their nickel like is a big deal but that's the end they will sell the right to mine the nickel to the Chinese some roads. It's not just about having nickel on the ground You gotta have machinery to take it out and that cost money, I mean it's a big investment. And these people talk like like they can just go there and grab the nickel and be rich they have no clue what's going on in the rest of the world. Just look in Africa Chinese Own the whole riches for what Penny's on the dollar or not even that. They still have to deal with with hunger and Insert trends Gorilla wars hunger already said hunger, And you guys are part of a country country that insures insurance you've been treated right, And of course not everything they did for you was just but now you are able to get a little bit back from everything that once was and you don't want to, just because you think you can do better If France gets out of there you guys are most likely screwed
"Kanaks" are crybaby? Sounds a bit so. Bro , if you don't want to learn to read don't. If you don't want to eat "white people food" don't. You are what Black Elk referred to as a " hang around the fort" kanak. People have romanticized nativism. Sans French inhabitants, natives would do what other Polynesians were doing conquering and subjugating . Only minus the reading , writing and law.
What a incredible one sided piece, and congratulations like expected the Kanaks lost the referendum. whether you like it or not, there are a lot of ethnic europeans in New Caledonia that feel just as much at home there as the Kanaks do. Vive la France!
@@igbotimehopper64yearsago46 dawg i don't think they'd form a united block to vote for independence. But sure, if you can convince the majority of Paris to vote for independence from France, be my guest. Not sure how they'd survive economically, it being a landlocked city with no hinterlands to support them, but sure if they all vote for independence i wouldn't oppose it. Europeans have to accept every newcomer as "new europeans" regardless of race or ethnicity, or even how long they have been in the country. Seems only fair then that european diasporas, be they Boers, New Caledonians, or whatever else, are considered as at home in their areas. Especially when they have centuries old ties to the region. What's next, a Kalmyk isn't european because they centuries ago moved into european Russia, Turks have no claim to Anatolia because they once migrated to the region, or even if we go to the extreme, are South Slavs not Balkan because they moved to the region many many centuries ago? Your cheap whataboutism doesn't work
