My picture got in this "back in the day". I was so pumped for this to come out, all jazzed up to buy the DVD when that hit. It was an otherwise rough time in my life and, in it's fantastically str8nge way, We are the Strange was just the right amount of crazy to keep me sane. Very proud to have seen this come to life, practically before my very eyes! lol
I bought this movie a couple of times and regret losing the case both times. I think I got it in 2008 or 2009 after High School. Not many of my friends made it through to the end. I even remember watching the commentary. I was most confused about the two-headed monster just "La-la-la" through one of the scenes. xD Thought it was funny, maybe that's the point. Anyhow. Great movie and I was always jealous of the backers that were in the credits/cult scenes! Super awesome :D
the pace IS slow, but it's visually stunning and kind of hypnotic, so i don't give a shit. at all. i appreciate it when someone can make environments look like they came out of a dream.
36 minutes in and it hardly feels like anything has happened, and when stuff does happen I can hardly make sence of it. There's practically not even a story either and the animation is unique but overall not very good. However, this movie doesn't need all that to be good. It's got incredible atmosphere and despite being incredibly slow it still keeps you entertained. It's weird, it's intruiging, and it's almost as if it manages to be amazing by not being amazing. We Are The Strange really is something else, something unique, and it deserves way more respect.
Same here. The while thing send to be more of a series of expressions instead of a story, but the mixed-media presentation and near-overwhelming visuals make this worth it.
This movie is twice as worth it in 1080. 2007s tech just could not handle all the details that were painfully handcrafted by the king of underrated himself
Just looking at my DVD collection, saw this title and came here to say I have a signed copy from the director and am glad that I’m not the only person who loved this film.
I used to watch this at around age 16-17 (now 25) with my best friend at the time. When we got stoned, we'd watch it over and over. So many good memories.
I remember watching this 10 years ago when it was released with the mindless self indulgence video you directed. I’m glad to see it in all its re-rendered glory.
This doesn’t look like artists made it, so much as it looks like an artist dreamed it. I absolutely love the sustained, densely surreal atmosphere and style - incredible!
So glad I was able to locate this film! I watched it for the first time back in maybe 2008 or 2009. It made a lasting impression on my mind as a youth, I spent days trying to remember the name, and went through several years worth of my RU-vid history to find this. Incredible film. Thank you.
I'm glad you found it again- its not a direct sequel but I'm releasing a new film this year which stars the same doll- and this time they might get ice cream ^_^ Here's a teaser trailer ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-M7mqyxBs7s8.html
I remember finding this movie at my aunts house about 10 years ago and the only part I remembered from when I was younger is, when I played the movie the movies rating would show up as "Rated M for Mega Hella Awesome" I'm glad I remembered that part because when I tried to find this movie years later I typed that into google and did hours of research, and I finally found the movie! thank you for uploading this because I was able to rewatch the movie and understand it. now that im older, i can appreciate this masterpiece.
When I made this we were all in the same friend group in San Jose, Ca and yeh he did a great job as Rain- rando fact: When this premiered at Sundance 2007 Dave was on the cover of that months Juxtapoz? magazine and we went to the magazine release party before we went to the movie premiere- good times media.gettyimages.com/id/117388625/photo/2007-sundance-film-festival-we-are-the-strange-premiere.jpg?s=594x594&w=gi&k=20&c=EXpx_5kOI_HeLmC8wDJxiP1OedYl1eU1afVZChhJ1BY=
This is the kind of stuff I love. It's surreal yet has a story. I love the different animation together. It just works so well together. I love your surreal movies! Keep on doing what you do best! I'm rooting for ya!
A friend introduced me to this film and we watched it in his house. It was truly something else. Visually excellent, there's a lot of things going on and many details to appreciate. The sound effects are also fitting and I love the way Blue looks. However it was hard for me to follow the story. Maybe because i hadn't slept that dat but I couldn't focus on what was going on. I had to ask my friend many times for me to explain (luckily he did). The silences are not that bad I think, but the way the story is told is something I just couldn't dig. However I thank him for having shown me this and you to have made it. It's by far one of the most original movies I've ever watched and and a joy to watch for the visuals.
I absolutely love this movie, origami and rain being my favorite characters. Some parts had me gasping and legitimately caring for these characters and the ending both was satisfying, especially for Blue, but also saddening because of certain events. At the start the pacing was a bit slow but the content, beautiful visuals and intrigue for the characters and plot more than compensated for it in my opinion. Now if only this was an actual video game...(I also loved that camera was a thing. Just made my day.)
Good timing! A new film starring the same little doll comes out this year ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xHz_pQWRAu8.html&lc=UgzhHSQx2Xt5dhddbtl4AaABAg
@@imaginationrabbit sweet! I’m looking forward to it. Looks amazing! I just finished Heart String Marionette a few days ago and it’s one of my fave movies now. Just gotta watch I Am Nightmare and I’ll have seen all your feature films. :P
couldnt remember the name of this movie until I used the wayback machine a few seconds ago I watched it...well tried to watch it in 2009 only made it about 35 minutes in
Siempre amaré We are the strange
I discovered Rabbit Junk a week ago on Spotify. I just finished watching your movie.... AMAZING! 9 out of 10 my friend! Almost perfect(More of your music, less seizure-flashing, and better visual-fidelity in Rain's scenes, plz)! We Are The Strange is now added to my Perfectly Weird List with: Primer, Zero Theorem, Waking Life, Moon, Fantasia, Adventure Time, and more. You are a great artist, thank you! EDIT: ArtistS? I keep thinking it's just the one, but there are two.... Maybe that's a compliment that I see you as one?
Still one of my favorite movies of all time. I was so excited for this release and followed the production of this movie and when I finally watched it I was floored for weeks after.
+kondaresto Thx! I'm glad you like it- yeh I've made a lot of stuff a fair number of people really like and which I think is pretty good for original indie stuff but yeah the whole marketing part is something I need to work on ^_^
This film is a very peculiar piece of art. But art nonetheless. A visually inspired and trippy experience from start to finish, with the sort of dark undertones that leads me to believe that THIS is what that hack Jimmy Screamerclaus was trying to do with Where the Dead Go to Die, but much less successfully. Well done MdotStrange. Well done indeed.
I remember watching this when I was little with my uncle, and I was at an age to where I could not comprehend what was happening, now watching it. I starting thinking about this by discovering it downloaded on my PS3
+Diamondcreeper28 Thank you- I'm glad you enjoyed it- I have two newer movies you can see for free here ru-vid.com/group/PLOtUSn20SlKhmfLt4Tfmphj9dkSeQlrs8
I saw this when I was around eight years old and had nightmares from the original upload for a really long time. It's nice that I can enjoy it now as an adult.
Damn it was a great choice to watch on acid... Love it.. There is too mich work and love in this.. I need to watch it over and over again... Thanks for sharing it
i first saw this when i was like 8/9 (i'm 19 now) and it's been one of my favorite movies ever since and it heavily inspired the direction of my own art... i've been going through a lot of heavy shit my whole life, and especially dealing with a really rough part of my life rn with a lot of darkness in my mind, feeling like a freak and hating myself. i brought my dvd of this to watch with my friend this halloween, it nearly made me cry. it's just a really powerful story to me, how blue and emmm are "rejects" who found eachother and became friends, and defeated this effed up villain who hurt them and their world. ori and rain are also super awesome together and as their own peoplecharacters, i love that the heroes in this aren't just perfect idealized idea of what a hero is. HIM is such a great villain in the way that he's so SINISTERRR-ly E_vilE, the robot fight was awesome and was satisfying to see him defeated, especially with blue smiling at the end :)... i dunno, it's hard for me to articulate how this movie makes me feel but it's so personally profound to me and makes me feel better about being a freak. i really don't get how some people are confused by it or think it's trash when the meaning is seriously there... thank you so much for this, and everything else you've made and shared with the world
Hey thank you for the comment and I'm happy you enjoy this old movie of mine ^_^ If you haven't yet check out this new one as Emmm and Blue are in it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-d0vsn2PGwwI.html Yeh I know how you feel- real life is not bright and happy like Pixar movies- I had a pretty dark childhood/young adult life so I make movies for people that have had heavier/darker experiences so they won't feel alienated by these stories hopefully- I feel alienated by normal animated movies because I can't relate to those characters problems- but yeh- thanks for watching!
Wow, this was awesome!!! A client at the tattoo studio I apprentice at always talks about this movie and for good reason, I absolutely love the style and vision that went into this artwork, seriously a masterpiece!!
This is amazing i just found out about this yesturday:v It is very original! And well strange which is good i really love strange and this is very well made and i hope you work paid off>3
i'm right after the bit where Blue's just chillin and playing a game and Emmm decides to have a fucking rave by himself and holy shit that went from 0 to 100 QUICK. Can't say I'm surprised tho.
Hey whats up bro- here's a trailer from our latest(2021) film- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xHz_pQWRAu8.html also we dev a game to make animations you might be interested in store.steampowered.com/app/1355310/Nightmare_Puppeteer/
Just worked up the nerve to see this and it's definitely something else. It's the first animated movie I can think of that deserves the attribute of being challenging to watch since so much of it's outside the usual bounds, but that also provides a unique experience. I can't wait to see the rest of your catalogue since this was the first movie I've seen. Keep doing what you're doing man.
When I saw this earlier, I just realized after watching a short CG anime movie called Malice@Doll and it struck me as familiar watching it, I enjoyed both.
I had forgotten the name of this movie, and watched it when it first came out in 2007. I've tried finding it multiple times and finally found it by searching "indie Claymation movie 2007."
I couldn't understand shit, but as a follower of David Lynch's work, i find that pretty satisfying. And i think is truly inspiring how you can create your own universe with effort and inventive.
