In this episode we go backpacking and do some float tube fishing on an incredible mountain lake in Montana with some absolutely gorgeous cutthroat trout! We backpacked our float tubes 5 miles in with an elevation gain of close to 2,000ft! Of all the places we have fly fished, this has to be in the top five! We caught some beautiful cutthroats and we hooked into something we have never encountered before...

We used the “Cumberland” by classic accessories and the “Caddis Sports Pro 3000” in this video. Both were fairly easy pack

Nice, we love it up there in Montana, so many great places to hunt and fish! This lake is in the north western portion of the state, it’s called Otokomi lake

great video! I do a lot of hiking and fly fishing, but I've never had a boat small enough to take to the alpine lakes. I'm seeing a lot of negative reviews on the float tubes you guys used in the video related to leaks and holes after short time use, How would you say the Caddis float tubes are? and also do they take up a lot of space in a backpack? I have a 65 liter pack and it would be cool to do an overnight but still have room for the float tube.

So far the caddis has held up but we haven’t had it out a ton of times. If we were to recommend one though we would say go with the Cumberland by classic accessories. It has been a great float tube for me and we have several friends that all have one. We use to use packable pontoon boats (in our earlier videos) that were made by classic accessories and always had good luck with those as well. As with anything, quality can change over time so recent reviews might be more relevant than mine but hopefully that helps you!

@@ReelsandRidges the Cumberland is on sale rn, I’m thinking about buying it. Just wondering how well it fits into a backpack?

It is a bit bulky because the seat has a large piece of foam (which is great while you are on the water but does increase the size) so it may be hard to get it inside a pack. When I pack it, I have a frame style pack I attach it to

Thanks! It was no easy hike but it sure paid off. It was worth it to bring the tubes if for nothing else than to get out on the water away from the mosquitoes!
