Jimmy a version of the Hijet that we got in Europe came with a 1.3l the K3-VE, early ones had about 60hp and later ones 90hp and are crazy reliable, very low compression so perfect for boost too, this is a much cheaper option the the 660cc 3cyl and they even have them for sale on Chinese websites with international delivery, they bolt right in (as long as you get one with engine mounts) also will bolt directly up to the 4WD gearbox which is crazy, the gearbox and diffs are shared!
Definitely replace it with a stock motor! Don’t do anything crazy, just get a reliable oem replacement motor. I’m sure mr. Importer man has either a truck with a donor engine, or could pretty easily get an imported replacement engine
Not if Tony keeps running her down to the ground over revving and doing 70mph on every road. Have you seen him drive that thing on DJNOWAY’s channel? dude is reckless
You should swap a K3-VE/K3-VET into it. It is a 1.3L that they had in a later model in europe. With VVT it is a very nice engine even in it's NA 55kW version. The VET is a lower compression variant of the same thing and comes with a factory turbo, around 100kW. But honestly it doesn't really need it in this kind of a car. Also commonly found in the Daihatsu Terios(Toyota Cami). Your version of the Hijet also had a HC series engine in europe, which is a predecessor of the K3, and also would be an alright choice.
Any idea if there is a red bullet vvt-i for this series engine. I found that several high milage cars midrange goes to hell and it turns out to be a vvt-I valve or the filter screen to it gets plugged. If they just rebuild the existing engine it would be interesting to see if they could put it on the dyno just for fun.
I should have read the comments! I also made this point they put the K3-VE in lots of things and they are much cheaper than the Japan only 660cc engines
Another stock Engine won’t survive if Tony keeps running her down to the ground over revving and doing 70mph on every road. Have you seen him drive that thing on DJNOWAY’s channel? dude is reckless
I vote on keeping it OEM, or calling Sammit and getting him to ship you a K6A Turbo from a Suzuki Cappuccino, Wagon R, etc. I think DJ has that engine in his van.
This channel is so wholesome that it makes my heart and soul feel warm when I watch it. Never stop and please no matter how big you go, never ever change. Such a good bunch of dudes, I feel part of the Crew and I’ve never met any of you. Loads of love from North Wales, UK 🏴
Put another stock engine in it jimbo, it should just bolt in and be beautiful. I'm sure there will be a hiccup or two but that's the right move for the team regardless.
Just put a stock engine back in the Daihatsu. Or search for anything that bolts up to the transmission stock. Maybe there is a version with just bigger displacement Edit: just get the extended cab version you saw at the car show a while ago, and build this one into something fun
I grew up a couple towns away from Ryan. I always love how you all are New England rooted ♥️ I will forever watch your videos. I hope that we will meet and maybe race together. That will be YEARS down the road. I didn’t make a name for myself so now I’m dealing with building up my life from drugs into sobriety. I lost everything I know and am 30 years old and can’t afford to have a car to work on. It’s whatever. I’ll soon enough make money to where I won’t have to worry about it. Anyways. Keep representing the few of us who like s13’s and keep on sliding ♥️
i love all the old clips! really wish i was around then to see all that. jimmy will always be my favorite out of all the ct boys. he’s so humble and great to his friends and family. anyone that’s his friend should be grateful to have someone so humble in their life. love to meet you one day!
oh my god, when you pulled out the compression tester and turned it over, the automatic subtitles said [Laughter] at the sound of the motor it did kinda feel like the engine was laughing at you for expecting anything haha
Now is your chance when you replace the engine to make sure the spark plugs are tight and that everything else on it is good too. I wonder if you could do the stock engine but slight hot rod mods like higher compression, alloy rods, or whatever else would be easy and keep it basically stock but just a little warmed over like the old guys say.
Its crazy how long of a memory reel you created from having this truck such a short amount of time. But it was well earned you put a enough time into that thing to make so many memories so quickly. It's just funny doing a looking back at the life of video for something that is a relatively minor repair in terms of the scope you're used to, and for something you haven't had that long, and yet it still works. I couldn't believe seeing it as it arrived without the livery and wheels I forgot how bad it looked.
@@smoothcoastin2484 Pull motor. Take it apart until you see what's wrong. Replace the part that failed. Yes, I know this is a JDM motor but I would at least try to find whatever it needs (rings? valve spring? etc). I bet you could still find parts.
I think Stevie was on the right track with the busa. Some kind of 600-1000cc engine, super high revving, your more common motors will have a wide range of available parts that are easier to get
I think you’re better off going oem. It’s plenty of fun and slightly funny as it is! No need to stress yourself out. 🖤 (I’m waiting on more e36 content though🤟)
Never thought I’d see a Grimme potato harvester in a jimmy oakes video😂 (on the trailer at the start of the vid) I’m a service engineer for Grimme UK, have been watching the channel since the LS Z32 days
I had a blown out sparkplug on one of my cars and I used a spark plug helicoil on it and it has run perfectly ever since… you could be getting low compression because the threads are partially gone… on mine they were completely gone and it runs better than before now.
Hyabusa engine like Stevie said , you could make a customer shifter it’ll be technically a sequential and you could probably use a quad rear axle for the chain and sprocket
1.9 mechanical pump converted tdi swap would be kick ass and still really usable! Random big turbo lying around the shop, race nozzles and a cooler and you’d see 200 horse easy!
I will love to see a big build with wide body giant wing drift mini truck !! Something différent like the nisshonda but bigger !! A long-term build !! All-in
Those trucks got me watching your channel. I was part of the Slow and Frustrated scene back in the early 2000's. So naturally I love everything else you guys do. MotoCheeze here on YT put a supercharger on his. So he's done all the Trial and Error. He might be able to direct you on parts if you put another stock motor in it.
I would look online for a replacement motor threw like golf course suppliers and maybe like farm/feed type places. I know a bunch of farmers around my area use them. It’s worth a shot.
What about swapping a non turbo EJ or other flat 4 motor into the mini truck? Or I've seen some cool mini truck builds with motorcycle motors that would be sick! Bring back drew-bie for that build!
CBX 1000 ENGINE . Hondas straight 6 motorcycle engine . SOUNDS LIKE STRAIGHT MAGIC . omg that orgasmic exhaust sound coming from a mini truck would be the most viral Kei truck in all history present and future .
Getting an OEM replacement is probably the way to go but if you swap it I think a turbo Can Am Maverick engine would be sweet. 900cc and like 200hp and might fit up to the existing trans such that you could keep 4wd. If making the adaptor plate is at all feasible the rest of it shouldn't be hard, drop in the Maverick ecu and call it a day.
Hijet? G16b block, g13b twin (lumpy) cam head with adjustable cam gears and g13b water pump , turbo, ecu, make it fit, boom! The best mini truck. Nuff said.
