Don't forget that the price for your accommodation is for 6 people of which some will be children so it's ok more so if it's only for a couple of nights
The toilet in separate rooms to the bath and shower, is good for when someone needs a number 2, and someone is taking a candle bath xD! I much prefer it!
Was common in large houses up to the 30's when to save space they were combined. My Grandmother's 1920 house had them separate, a pain if one needed a pee when in the bath and peeing in it was not an option as someone had the bath and same water after one. Nowadays multiple toilets are the norm.
It's not unusual to have a separate toilet and bathroom in older houses. My parents house had this when I was growing up. (My granny's house still had the toilet outside...).
Did you go to Leeds Castle while you was in Kent? its a lovely Castle on an island in a lake, i'm not sure i have seen you visit a Castle in England yet. I hope you go to the Cotwolds villages in England like Bourton on the water, Bibury, Stow on the wold, Broadway, Upper & Lower Slaughter, Castle Combe during your stay and also the Lake District in the North of England the lovely Grasmere and lake Windemere this time as you missed out on those beautiful areas last time. Should also explore more of the South West of England, Devon, Dorset Somerset etc has some stunning locations!! go to Norfolk in the East and explore the lovely beaches of North Norfolk, Holkham beach, wells next to sea etc have beautiful sandy beaches. Take a boat trip along the Norfolk broads. i know you like filming locations so the medieval village of Lavenham in Suffolk should be on your list, its one of the filming locations for harry potter.
Whitbread is a very old company dating back to the 1700s and was once the worlds largest brewery. It has now moved into the hospitality industry and is no longer a brewery. They own Premier Inns and Beefeater Restaurants. They used to own Costa Coffee but sold it to Coca Cola.
Your incredible delivery and editing leaves me in awe . Easily on the same level (or better) as any major tv media company or big budget travel show. Had to stop a few times to remind myself that you don't have 2 or more camera operators, audio guy, set runners, script prompters, a director and makeup person on hand. Truly incredible quality.
This is Mr Grape Soda Travels' old stomping ground! He used to play in Churchill's Tavern in Ramsgate back in the day! At Christmas, the boats in the harbour all set up loads of pretty festive lights. It's adorable!

Your Airbnb was basic, but clean and functional so it had everything you needed. You have really settled down to life in the UK, haven't you?
I have a lot of fond memories visiting Ramsgate and Margate growing up. My mum and dad use to have a caravan in a caravan site we use to visit several times a year, to get away from the busyness of London life. And while we were there we would enjoy driving around Kent during the day, and visiting the clubhouse on the caravan site for evening entertainment. Remembering also how busy Margate beach was, and how hot it got in summer when I walked on the sandy beach bare foot and scorched the bottom of my feet, while eating a vanilla ice cream in a cornet with a chocolate flake. So funny as well, when my mum or dad or older twin brothers and sisters would sit down on a foldable decking chair on the sand, while I was building sand castles with a bucket and spade, and they’d fall off the decking chair because it wasn’t balanced properly on the sand. Before cheap packaged holidays became available in Spain many Londoners would travel to Margate or Ramsgate for their holidays, and quick getaways on bank holiday weekends and it was always rammed on the beach. Since then, both Ramsgate and Margate has been unloved, and degenerated a lot with lack of investment, but I’m glad to see slowly both these locations are getting more investment, with many Londoners moving down that way because they can buy properties there much cheaper then London prices. I remember also Dreamland in Margate and the huge rollercoaster they use to have there, but sadly I don’t think Dreamland is anything like it’s heyday, and I remember that horrible concrete tower block which overlooks Dreamland Margate, wondering why the council allowed it to be built, when it looks out of place and a monstrosity. Having said that, I think Margate has a lot of potential now, now a lot of young millennials are moving there from other parts of the U.K., especially london, and I foresee it being the next Brighton in time, with Tracy Emin’s Turner gallery there, which looks like it has a funky vibe.
That Airbnb looks great and was really good value for money. My family got an Airbnb for my 50th and there were so many problems, damp, marks on walls, not particularly clean and also the bathroom light broke 😠 I love your vlogs x
A separate toilet and bathroom was very common in the UK at one time, I'm so surprised you've not seen them before. In the 1966 my parents bought a nice new detached four bedroom home, it had a separate toilet and bathroom, you see its quite handy to have that toilet on its own, so one family member can have a soak in the bath whilst the others can do, well you know... 1 and 2... lol. In fact all the of the five homes in the UK that my parents owned all had separate bathroom and toilets, two of the homes had toilets outside the home in our yard next to the coal house, One of our homes had no bathroom at all and the toilet was in a block of 8 up a neighbors back yard 3 doors away, I'm not joking, we would have a stand up wash in the kitchen and go to our aunties for baths, then we moved to America and bathrooms included the toilet. In the UK we went to the bathroom for a bath, in the USA we got to the bathroom for the toilet, I know it sounds crazy but its true. BTW that bnb looks OK to me for the money, these homes were built way before BnB was ever thought of, it looks typical of older UK homes. Beds now that's a subject, Our British relatives love telling us they have bought a King Size bed, of course they think its as big as ours, not likely, We've never even mentioned a California King which is even bigger. lol When we moved to the USA we were surprised how big the rooms and furniture was, there is no doubt about it America has what all Brits who move here call Over Sized Furniture, its over sized to fill the rooms. It's nice you are trying out some typical seaside places. I hope you can find the time to visit Hastings and also Rye (with its cobbled streets) which is not far from Hastings. Nearby Rye there is Camber Sands, a beach that has been used in various films. Enjoy your stay in Britain!
I found your video about Toby Carvery and noticed it was my local one. Looked at your channel and saw this. It's so surreal to see people talk about my town as a tourist because Ramsgate's not really been a tourist center for a long time. In terms of Ramsgate 'getting better', I'd totally agree. While there are some rougher parts, I've definitely noticed the town getting nicer recently. I think in the next decade, if all things go well, it'd be a really pleasant place to visit. Just hoping I don't get priced out!
that made all the memorys come flooding back as i used to live in ramsgate, not sure if the waterfall is still there but myself and friends had fun pouring washing up liquid into it and watched as the bubbles made it all the way to the harbour,good times.
A. W. N. Pugin [Augustus Welby Northmore] often just referred to as Pugin, was probably the greatest nineteenth century British architect /designer and is buried at St Augustine's Church, Ramsgate, the same location as theh the Pugin museum. Pugin, the father of the gothic revival, during his short life [40 years] managed to design applied and decorative goods for a number of manufacturers and wrote a number of books. He was architect to many buildings including the interior to the Houses of Parliament, also many think the exterior should be credited to Pugin.
Lots of childhood memories of Margate (in the '70s & '80s) … had family who lived there so many summer holidays spent there. My great-grandfather (and later, my grandparents) rented a beach hut for the season - the huts had gas rings so you could make hot drinks etc.. Remember going on the slot machines on the Sun Deck (which is long burned down now) where the machines took 1/2p coins… and late night bags of chips on our way back to the boarding house. Might be 25+ years since I was last there.
How weird I accidentally clicked on your video and you are in my home town! I’m so glad you like Ramsgate, it’s got it’s good and bad points but you can’t deny it’s beautiful architecture.
I live in a seaside town and one of the things I've always loved is tthe smell of the sand and the rock pools on a sunny day. The seaweed and the ozone is transformative and so relaxing.
Hi. I don’t know if you realise that Ramsgate is the first of the Cinque Ports. This was given a Royal Port status and one of the Royal Family is made head of the Cinque Ports. Don’t know who is now but for years it used to be the late Queen’s mother.
The Wetherspoons in Ramsgate is my favourite. It has a really great sunny rooftop bar with a amazing views of of the beach and the harbour. You can sit and watch the fishing boats come in. You should try and visit Broadstairs which is much nicer than Margate. Charles Dickens lived in Broadstairs and inspired him to write 'David Copperfield'.

While there you should visit the Shell Grotto (Cave)....QUOTE...The Shell Grotto is an ornate subterranean passageway shell grotto in Margate, Kent, England. Almost all the surface area of the walls and roof is covered in mosaics created entirely of seashells, totalling about 2,000 square feet of mosaic, or 4.6 million shells....UNQUOTE. It's (if memory serves me well) not far from the seafront.
6:56 Whitbread is/was a Brewing company that also owns lots of pubs, these pubs only sell whitbread beers, probably cheap tasting or standardised. They are now a huge company that owns premier inn and lots of other establishments.
Ramsgate!! Woooh!! I had rellies living there and my annual Summer Holiday was spent in Ramsgate - every year for about 12 years! My Great Aunt lived opposite a rock factory (rock as in sweeties + as in a long and brittle coloured sugar stick - usually pink! - with the words Ramsgate running through the middle! The smell every morning of the rock and candy floss being “cooked” was a child heaven! (Every British seaside resort has its “own”:rock with the seaside name running through the middle) Ramsgate is only about an hour’s car drive from my home, so it is our “day trip to the seaside” destination 👍🏻😁 The beach is huuuuge and when the tide goes out it’s even bigger! The harbour is lovely and you can walk right out along the sea wall Hope you had fun in Ramsgate! (And did get some rock!)
@@TheMagicGeekdom my “holiday highlight” whilst there, was the Amusement Arcade and Funfair called Pleasurama (sadly it is no more…..😖😥😥) it was one of the biggest funfairs of the seaside towns (Margate’s Dreamland WAS bigger though yah boo sucks 🙄) and was the length of the beach - right to the end where the cliffs are! On the Friday, the last day of my holiday, my doting aunt and uncle would give me a 10/s note (ten shillings in old money 50p in new!) to spend at the funfair or on the “penny slots” machines - rides on the Dodgems, the Helter Skelter and the Big Wheel and the finale would be the walk back to their home eating chips from a newspaper (and in those days, it really WAS a newspaper!) and drinking a bottle of fizzy pop - the ultimate treat! - such happy times… There was, however, a tragic accident in Pleasurama - a miniature train crashed - I will see if I can find a link that explains it all
You didn’t show the outside of the house you were in, but from the high window in the kitchen and the look of the houses in that area, it looks like you may have been 'downstairs'. Not a full basement, but down a few steps from the street, while a fancier set of stairs leads up to the front of the stairs? This sort of set up is common in houses of Georgian/Victorian eras. The layouts of these half sunken floors are often peculiar, but were built with purpose. The Butler, cook or housekeeper may have a room on this floor, while other ' lower’ ranking staff - chambermaids etc. had rooms in the top of the house - often in the loft. The reason for the odd layouts in the 'downstairs' floor is usually because they were laid out for tasks, their might be a room for a senior head of staff, a kitchen, a pantry, and scullery. Many seaside homes were owned by rich city dwellers who would just bring a small staff with them while they 'summered' in seaside or countryside homes. If you ever visit some of the larger historical buildings, you will often find more complicated 'downstairs' layouts, with lots of little 'task' rooms - in the grander houses you'll also quite often find a second set of staircases tucked away, which allowed staff to move from the 'headquarters' of downstairs to individual floors unseen, and will run up to the top of the house for the lower ranked staffs quarters.
You mentioned the low ceilings, in a house that age, the servants quarters will have been designed for utility rather than comfort. In older buildings - like some Tudor buildings, you will find low ceilings because the houses weren’t built with two floors. They were built as a single story building - the technology for putting in upper floors wasn’t really available, but the buildings were built extra tall to allow for smoke from fires to dissipate (chimney technology wasn’t great either and were often just holes in a high roof). When the technology came along to build upper floors, lots of those houses were retrofitted. Low ceilings were just a factor because they were dividing a vertical distance that hadn’t been designed to be halved by adding a second floor. If you are into architecture, or history - or even just lateral thinking - the little quirks you find in the houses or streets of the UK can be fascinating
Hi.. I live in Ramsgate on the East cliff, this is the opposite side to you staying on the West cliff.. if you are still there you should walk up to King George’s park & visit the Italian green house.. Then if you are feeling energetic walk through to Broadstairs.. hope you enjoy your stay ❤️
I vaguely remember going to Ramsgate when I was a kid at the end of the 40s. There used to be an old grain clipper moored in the harbour and used as a restaurant, I remember trying to pick up the anchor.
Coast facing property is premium here in the UK, especially those on the South Coast. I would love to have the free time to research those beautiful buildings - most were at one time family homes, they are now hotels or Airbnb's.
I am told that the bohemian/artistic population of London (esp S.London) have sold up their much sought after studios & premises for a pretty penny in London & moved to the Kent coast towns including Ramsgate. Obtaining bigger & historic buildings on the coast with the great light,maritime weather & kindred spirits at a third or half the price of property in London. Hence “ Franks” van.

Hi Both ! In the UK you’ll have to understand that until the end of the 60s not many people had holidays over seas! Almost everyone stayed in the UK and had there annual holiday in places like Ramsgate and Margate using those large buildings you may see there as B and B’s or a Caravans on Caravan parks just outside also there were holiday camps all over the UK run like kids summer camps in the US making sure people had a good time with all day organised leisure activities, then in a large dance hall with entertainment with beer and gin & tonic for the parents and soft drinks for the children. Very unsophisticated. They even had a comedy TV series called High Dee High to highlight the simplistic holidays we the Brits had at that time. Now you are seeing Ramsgate and Margate post annual holidays where now everyone goes to Italy, Spain or anywhere else in the world they can afford to go. The most well known holiday destination in the UK was Blackpool “up North” just North of Liverpool. Originally a lot of Scott’s used Blackpool as there favoured holiday town. If you haven’t been yet worth a trip with the Blackpool tower and the pleasure beach! (Just a big fair with still a wooden rattler ride) hope you like your trip in the UK welcome!
I presume the Blackpool little rattler ride comment was a tad sarcastic. The Blackpool Pleasure Beach is a huge attraction with excellent Roller Coasters. 😂😂
@Mark Wolstenholme The pleasure Beach used to get over 7 million visitors every year. That was before Amanda Thompson decided to lock the gates and charge people to just walk around. Then she stopped that so you can no longer just walk round you have to pay the standard admission charge of around £49 per person. A bit cheaper if you book online in advance. Plus it's now only open 10am to 6pm, it used to be open until midnight at times.
The "Sorry, no Whitbread" is a reference to the terrible mass-produced tasteless rubbish beers from the bad old days of the 1970s, 1980s. Whitbread were one of the worst offenders! So, not having any is a good sign 🙂

It's not really the cheapest airbnb in the UK if you've got all those preconditions, right? I looked it up and it was a campsite in Cornwall with no showers for £10 a night. Now that would have been a video.

Actually pretty common to have a toilet seperate from bathroom... legacy of most older homes only having 1 bathroom per family, regardless of how big the family.
The real Dutch pronunciation of Van Gogh is hard to type phonetically, but it's more like halfway between 'Hoogh' and 'Hook'. Van Go or Van Goff is fine for an English speaking country, Dutch is a weird language.

People were a lot shorter back in the day. That's why the door frames are smaller. If you are staying in an older building things WILL be all " nooks and crannies". You can't alter the layout. Spaghetti and SALAD !? "No WHIT bread"....NOT white bread. Whitbread ( pronounced WITBRED) is/was a make of beer.
Have you been in Asda yet? If you get one of the big superstores, that will be very similar to Walmart for you. Always like seeing your shopping videos
Hornby Hobbies - Hornby, Corgi, Airfix and Scalextric are based in Margate and have a visitor centre to see all their past toys. You were right next to 'Thanet Earth - the largest greenhouse complex in the UK. Historic WW2 airfield Manston has a small WW2 RAF museum. Just down the coast is Dover Castle and the famous white cliffs. Touristy Canterbury has the large Cathedral, the Roman wall, and the West Gate and gardens. Whitstable has a famous tiny harbour, and sea food.

I currently live in Margate which is great, but please, please visit Broadstairs next door (my hometown). It is very different and more select than its neighbours Ramsgate and Margate, and has seven absolutely beautiful beaches.
Whitbread, pronounced Wittbred, is a vile 'fake' beer brand. Only beaten to the bottom by Shepheard & Neame beers. Real Ale is handcrafted beer made in small breweries as opposed to being made in giant factories. I went to Margate once. After dodging the Friday night riot I escaped on my motorbike, only to find that someone had poured sand in my oil tank. I never went back. I advise you to avoid the Isle of Sheppey at all costs!
I did chuckle a couple of times. When you're out and about,you both look normal size. But in that flat Jeremy looks like a Giant! The Jolly G..no Black Giant!
