We hope you like this new project! Thank you to Established Titles for sponsoring today's video, become a lord or lady using this link: establishedtitles.com/DriveTribe
one sold at anglia car auctions last sat or sun for 4 grand running looking great ....its on you tube take a look ...seen few go for that money....shoulda got sweeney jag they had loads there cheap
As a long time XJS/XJ12C owner I didn’t consider the Ford era XK8 as a proper Jag… until I saw it start billowing smoke in this video. You’ve convinced me. What a great car.
Love this. Jag is the British Alfa. An automotive brand with incredibly storied history along with a heavily checkered past regarding quality control and reliability. For some reason (and I live across the pond), this project car excites me considerably more than the V10 Beemer. Looking very much forward to the series.
This poor car deserves all the love and care it can get. The looks of the late 90s/early 2000s XK have held up so well and I don't really understand some of the hate they got/get now. Fix this R up to where it deserves to be and I'll watch every minute of it Edit: it still blows my mind that cars we here in the States could only dream of affording in the late 90s are now basically considered throw-away vehicles
Hearing/seeing Mike actually have to take a breather to compose himself after the dyno because he couldn't stop laughing was so fun. He's a brilliant host, so glad he and Richard get along so well, and that he's still with Drivetribe.
"Awfully sorry, there seems to be a bit of a trouble in the wallet department. Would you mind settling the bill while i go and warm up the Jaaaag" - Jeremy C
Being an x100 owner I’ll be following this. Great to see some publicity for the guys at Swallows. What a great guy running it. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this lovely Jag!
Recently the new owner of a 2010 Jag XF R. Absolutely fell in love with this brand. It has some minor imperfections but its very special and it makes you feel special.
What a great video. That's a brilliant team working on the car (How much knowledge Tom and his team have, amazing). Looking forward to the updates on this beauty. Nice one
"I seriously vibe with our proven scam sponsor which DOESNT plant a tree for every title given, doesnt own any land that they can part out because that was made illegal in Scotland and doesnt even have anything to do with Scotland as it is based out of china, owned by a parent company running more scams and doesnt even entitle you to call yourself a Lord or Lady because they cannot legally give out a genuine Master Title Deed!"
It seems sketchy, but there's enough evidence out there to prove that it isn't a scam. The knife company, couldn't say. But Established Titles isn't a scam, it's just very bad marketing/promotion.
i love the humor around this project. jags can be a royal pain, and this one might, but its going to be a fun ride to make that jag do what you want it to do
Drivetribe has certainly matured since it's start up, has found the right content formula. These days in my twilight years I love anything to do with Jags which is completely opposite to my opinion of fifty years ago when they used to roll into the workshop. I used to hide in the toilet but the boss was aware of that. By the way, where is Lucy Brown? She just disappeared off Drivetribe about a year ago.
I randomly af found this channel after Captain Slow showed off the Lotus Evija and I'm absolutely sold! I look forward to looking back through the episodes and finding more awesome vids. Also love the Lord & Ladies advertising idea. I'm not one to usually click away for things but that's a fun and quirky idea. The world needs more of that 😎
My step dad had one of these, and without telling me sold it for a quick sale to WBAC for £1700. It had just had a full respray in British Racing Green and it had the BBS Detroit split rims. He bought it originally for £8500 and it was in nice shape. The thing sounded epic when it ripped. I’m still gutted he didn’t give me the heads up! Daylight robbery!
Just a few minutes into the video I Googled manual swaps for XKs. Sure enough later I see you guys talking about swapping it. I'm excited to see this as I have a bit of a soft spot for XKs, especially the R Coupe like this. Very excited to see this progress along!
Reminds me far too much of my 2001 XKR coupe whose valve covers still leak despite a new gasket, and the smells after a long drive confirm it. Will have to reseal them at the next opportunity. Perhaps at some point do a meetup with the Classics World folks and their (newer and cleaner) XKR X100 coupe.
I took my XF to Swallows for it's regular servicing while i had it. Really great guys and far better pricing for servicing than dealers. Nice to see them get a showing here.
If you want to turn it into a "weapon" while you're in there manual swapping it...put a GM LS engine in there with a cam+springs and either a turbo system or headers and a blower. Then you'll have a proper car with at LEAST 800CC more displacement if you use a 4.8/5.3L all the way to 5.7/6.0/6.2/6.3/6.7/7.0/7.2/7.4/7.7L depending what direction you go in the LS game.
Thank you Mike!! You're a champ! If I may say... the trio would have been great with a Mike by their side and that's what we're getting, in segments , never the less , we are still getting ! So thank you Mike!
Friend of mine owns an XK8. He and I were both surprised to learn that the temperature gauge is not actually a gauge. It's an analog idiot light. When it is cool it reads at the low end of the scale. When it's too hot it pegs the hot side. Anytime it's within the operating range, it will sit centered in the middle regardless of what the coolant temperature is actually doing. That's why your "temp gauge stays solid."
I’ve had three of these XK8. Last one was so rusty it went for spares. But I kept the 20” BBS Detroit wheels currently in fleabay! But I still love them
Looks fantastic! Thinking I might look for one myself. Although I think if I was you guys. ( unlimited pockets) I would have switched to a RHD vehicle! That would be great! Are jaguars easier than Landrover to keep maintain afford???
What a find & beauty!!!!! Can't wait to see the full restoration and changes. Yup, all for a manual transmission. I personally would love to paint it classic British Racing Green.
FYI, if you're wandering what the little lady voice is saying... It's asking you to insert you ETC card (ETC is the automated toll system for expressways in Japan).
Following with great interest, as I'm in the middle of an underbody / suspension restoration on ours (albeit a 2003 4.2 S/C). I'm making it more track focused, so all the bushes are being replaced with polybushes. I'm already going to be fitting an LSD, but I'd really quite like a manual box in it too, as it would be a far more engaging drive, especially on circuit.
Re manual swap: fascinated to see how you do this, I am assuming you will be going aftermarket ecu for the engine due to the integration between the engine and transmission ecu, IF you have a way of doing this with a stock engine ECU I would be VERY interested. I just picked up a 34k mile one of these in california but aftermarket ECU is basically a no no for smog compliance unless "you know a guy" meaning manual swap is generally out too. Ive seen these with 3 pedals out here but they always have LS swaps to retain all the obd2 smog checks. And if I was going to do that, I'd use an XJS with a dead V12. You do mention the standalone ECU, but you also mentioned that as coming AFTER the swap, so again, interested. Dont know how a manual swap would increase power without replacing the engine ecu at the same time so i suspect thats what your mechanic meant.
Jag XKR Supercharged on eBay with current bidding at £968.00 Passenger side panel and door damage but nothing that can't be fixed, but it's running and driving with a valid MOT. I'm watching and may bid! 😁
My dyno guess was under 300hp. He kept saying, "at the crank," but that dyno was measuring at the wheels, not the crank. Drivetrain losses are always significant, especially on a completely stock car like that. Not surprising at all. 🤷♂️
Swallows racing. Just down the road from me. I take my xk8 to these guys everytime. This is the company that knows all and does all to any jaguar built. Plus Land rover. If you own a jaguar and you live in the UK look them up 👍
Just found this vid randomly. I own a black 2003 XK8 that I bought in Ohio for 9 grand about 4 months ago. Never have I bought a car so cheap that felt so special....electrical gremlins and all.
After selling my 09 XK coupe with 212k miles.. I’m living vicariously through you guys. Dads still got his 05 XKR convertible though, and that’s miles prettier than mine ever was with Zircon Blue and a tan interior and top.
The second fuel pump on the supercharged car kicks in when under load, only the early supercharged cars have a second pump. Usually this pump goes bad first and you don’t know it. Replace the fuel filter as well as they can get clogged.
It's putting out the same horsepower as an XK8 so I guess you need a new supercharger or maybe the boosted air is escaping somewhere? Gonna love watching the progress on this one as I am a proud, very early XK8 coupe, owner.
I still think if I was going to buy a Jag it would be an XJR6 or XJ12 with a 4L80e transmission, the reason for that is that I would then promptly swap an GM V8, most likely an LS...with at least a cam+springs, headers, a turbo or blower.
A Jag that doesn't leak oil hasn't got oil in it. It would be interesting to know if it the later variable cam timing on inlet and exhaust as variator do play up on these and can cause large power losses. The cars make a great smoker, in your case to much smoke lol 😆. I am Interested the manual gearbox change as should make it a weapon.
