The wire basket utensil with the long handle is for popping popcorn over a fire in a fireplace or a campfire. Fond memories of time with grandpa and grandma on an overnight visit!
I am the youngest of 6 and we all had a Velvet tin for our allowance. My dad had them in a Strongbox and once a month on a Saturday he would take his wallet and and with a big sigh he would open his wallet and hand us our money and we would put it in our tins lol. It would get locked up until next time we went to town and we could ask to take some money for a treat. When he passed away we opened the Strongbox and all the kids took their tin home. ❤
Wanted to write the same :) Also, in case of magazines, it would make sense to group them by decades or even 5 year periods, as people sometimes look for particular style and would rather buy "61-65 knitting magazine bundle" then "box of knitting magazines".
At 8.10 not a jello mold but a mold for making steamed puddings. I use my apple peeler, corer, slicer all the time. I have a Fugi apple tree. They still make them. Lots of great items in that kitchen box.
Part of my (self-imposed) mental health treatment for the last twenty years has been to look for marbles in the creeks near my house. I usually find at least part of one every time I go out. My dog hates it but he doesn't get a say in the matter.
The screened metal things with the sliding lid are popcorn makers to use in your fireplace or bonfire embers. We had one when I was a kid. Also, the two brushes in a case are men's hair brushes. You would use both of them at the same time. My dad had a set of those until he didn't have enough hair to brush anymore. LOL
I had some comments to my earlier comment. THANKS! I'm so sorry. I must have sounded critical, but I didn't mean to be. I only commented about the camera work because he mentioned the tripod in his haul and that he didn't like using them. That's the only reason I made my comment...thinking I might be of help LOL! I mentioned maybe going "hands free" because I see he sometimes gets a little frustrated trying to open a container with one hand while holding the phone in the other. I get a real kick seeing everything he does because he truly knows and appreciates what he finds. Very fun and educational for me. I also like that he has real supporters :-)
I bet that man that Josh knows would love that wine bottle shaped humidor. The one that has a smoking room in his house and Josh painted his picture for the room
Truck Ruts To Road: I've had many driveway put in over the years, using road gravel. What I was shown early on is that if you lay down "Road Paper" first, it stops the gravel from getting lost in the mud and you use much less gravel. What we call Road Paper here in the Pacific Northwest is like an industrial size and weight Garden Fabric Cloth. It comes on huge rolls that get cut to length at our local Rock & Landscaping supply company. It's available here for 12 and 20' wide driveways and is strong enough for the Dump Truck to back over as they start the run to pour and spread gravel. The gravel gets "suspended" on top of the paper and locks in to make the drive, with out being lost over time in the soft ground. I just roll it out before the dump truck arrives and hold the corners and edges down with bricks or rocks, until the gravel gets dumped to hold it in place. It doubles as a weed barrier, so grass doesn't grow up through the gravel. 🙂
" making plastic seem more valuable " reminded me of something that happened years ago, in the late 80s or early 90s. We were in northern California, in the redwoods. I think, actually, we were at the trees of mystery. Its an area that has a small trail that takes you past various redwood trees that have some sort of anamoly to them---- anyway, we were in the giftshop, and it had earrings on cards. These earrings were generaly gemstones and would have on them, " genuine garnet", or " genuine moonstone", etc. Well imagine my surprise when i found a card with earrings that were small, clear cubes. On said earrings was written, " genuine lucite" like lucite was a gemstone or something. Its just plastic.
Lucite is a brand name of an acrylic -- so likely they had to put the name on it due to copyright. Lucite is the most superior acrylic. Plain plexiglass type acrylic is less clear, easy to etch with household cleaners, brittle. Lucite is clear and super sparkly. :)
The wire basket with the handle is a popcorn popper for over a fireplace or a campfire. Those are so cool! Right up there with the mini sandwich makers used still by the Boy Scouts.
Lol - laughing at the flour sifter and your ashes. I told my kids - take a ride down a nice road with a bit of speed, open the box of my ashes and let them blow out the window. 😁. Better than being in the ground. LOL
Since I started watching a few years ago, Ive loved coming along for your adventures. Now, my wife and I own our own antique store! It feels almost educational to watch now 😁
I believe the two matching brushes are men’s hair brushes, not clothes’ brushes. Men used to brush the sides of their heads with the corresponding hand simultaneously.
Those screens with a handle are popcorn poppers used over open flame. My grandma used them over the flame of our old kitchen wood stove back in the 40's/50's. Wow, what a good memory you inspired. ❤️✌️
I'm retired in Mexico's Baja. I used to go antiquing in southern Ontario back in the 80s, and I'm disabled now. There are a few second-hand places here that go up to Long-Beach, CA wholesalers and bring stuff back, but nothing like up there. I used to have all that kitchen stuff. It's been over 100 for two weeks here, so we are hunkered down in the a/c.
I love watching your hoarder house series. They're so exciting especially when you reveal some of the really good stuff that you've found at the end. I'm just surprised you expect to find something really good this time. I imagine the family took all the decent stuff (which is their right of coarse) before they boxed it all up and decided to find someone to get rid of it all for them. I love your wit and enthusiasum and can't wait for the next hoarder house series.
Yup, that's a good point. Anything with lots of value I'm sure they already filtered out, when they packed it up. It's a good bet Alex will see a decent profit, but it won't be as big as some of his other sales.
When an older friend of mine went into a care home,. People wanted to buy her loaded junk drawer. She had bought every kitchen gizmo you can imagine. She used them all..😊
Another interesting video.... LOL on the tripod...the telephone might be Bakelite ...lots of interesting items, that's for sure......thanks for sharing, I certainly enjoy seeing "what's next" ....Best from BC...
In all the antiques I have dealt with, never heard of French ivory. I probably had my hand on some and didn't know..lol! Thanks for teaching this ok' gal a new trick!
Can you show the box of costume jewelry more thoroughly? Love that stuff. At 20:49 that is a popcorn popper that goes over a fire. It brought back memories of popping corn over the fireplace at the cabin. I had forgotten about that. Thanks Alex.
Alexander, The flying boat on the Top Flight box is a Short Sunderland. A British aircraft used for anti-submarine and sea rescue duties during WW2. Looks like you found a treasure trove of vintage goodies.🤠👍
@@Abysmillard But we can agree that it's not a Catalina, which only had two engines. And the wing shape is wrong. My first thought was Sunderland as well, but I'm geographically biased as they flew out of here when I was a little fella.
@@Abysmillard Agree that it look like a Martin M-130. The wing across the top of the fuselage is also a giveaway; the Sunderland wing was lower, Also the tailplane position is different. I've never seem a M-130 living, as I do, close to the white wall around the edge of our flat earth! 🙂
I remember using those baskets for popping popcorn over a campfire. I have a trinket box like the dog one you have the top to only it has a fawn on the top. It was my granny's and I remember her having them all my life and I'm 60. My mom said she thinks she had them when she left home. She had 2 so I got 1 and my brother got 1. My grandpa smoked Prince Albert tobacco so I have some of those cans. My aunt has the wooden stacking canisters which were my grandma's. So many neat things in this haul.
Hi Alex,... The sea plane on that Top Flight orange crate, is a depiction of a 4 engined Sunderland or Empire Flying Boat, a Catalena only has 2 engines.. xxx
I love to cook and bake, so that kitchen stuff would be right up my alley...unfortunately my kitchen is already decked out with all the gear i need and use. I love vintage kitchen tools that still have use.
Oh, I used to love Orange Crush and I drank it out of that kind of bottle when I was a kid in the 40's and 50's. It was my favorite. It doesn't taste the same any more.
Im not sure but the baskets you first showed looked like popcorn poppers for over a fire .We had something similar for camping . Some very unique things found in those boxes . Dad had a set of brushes very similar to that set you found . Have fun on vacation Keep Safe ❤Keep Well❤
Alex, always a pleasure to watch you as you sift through things to find the treasures. I just wished to give a lovely greeting to Hans who while I have only seen him through your channel, I wanted to send him greetings from far off Netherlands to him.
Popcorn popper. That mesh basket I used to pop popcorn on stove top. I caught the popcorn on fire...my mom came to my rescue. I was 5 years old at the time. You would think popcorn would be easy. 1966.
Reckon Mellisa must love being handed a box of jewellery to look through. I would love it. You might smile but I have several of those kitchen items which are still used. Carry on searching. So interesting. Xx
Kitchen stuff - i think I spotted a red handle pie slice lifter! If it's there Keep It! They are so wonderfully bendly the odds of the slice coming out in one good piece unlike the solid, unbendable ones they sell now!
I was excited over the vintage broaches, which you were like meh. Whereas I was meh over the tins and you were excited. Funny how people have different ideas anout value.
