As a CLG fan since the beginning, I'm absolutely heartbroken about all of this. I don't know if I'll be able to swap over to NRG or not, but keeping the same roster and staff from the team is a good start. I wish the boys on the Rift the best of luck in the future.

Welcome back to LCS. As a 10 year C9 fan I really respect the CLG org’s history and the strong improvement they’ve made recently. Glad to see the same faces will still be around while under new management. Im a firm believer in starting with small tweaks over sweeping changes. A great start to NRG’s involvement IMO.

The League folks kept their jobs. NRG laid off almost everyone at CLG that was involved in other games. The CS team, Apex, FGC team, all gone.

so nrg acquires clg league vertical from msg, but msg also becomes a major shareholder in nrg? I am a bit confused. Is it just NRG essentially running the show but MSG still putting money in (through investment in NRG)?

NRG used its own shares as payment to purchase CLG from MSG. This is common in company sales when divisions are sold off, that way NRG doesn’t have to raise capital or take on debt to buy CLG. MSG has the option to sell the shares and cash out or it could hold them as an investment. If it didn’t look like MSG was trying to exit the gaming business these types of deals can be used as toe holds to perform larger mergers later on as well.

I love this for the League team. I know it's ungrateful and picking/choosing since there are so many other people who were affected by this, but I would just like to put it out there that Cody is a Melee player being released from CLG, but his results are not lacking at all, consistent top 4s in majors/supermajors, and he's only more committed to Melee when he has the security. He's not in the best spot financially right now and his housing situation could be affected, he has to give back the PC CLG gave him soon and won't be able to stream (he's one of the few players that do stream.)

NRG use their own shares to buy CLG. Instead of having to look for capital and get in debt. They just exchange some shares to take CLG always from MSG. NRG own it and MSG turn into investors of NRG now

Please don't do a hard hard swap from CLG to NRG in the naming. Something like "NRG Counter Logic" to recognise the history of CLG but having the NRG brand at the forefront is a best of both worlds case.

Find a way to keep the CLG brand in the LCS, even if it's a little messier than you'd want. CLG is in that league's DNA. A lot of what George did made what happened for your org possible today. So much of it doesn't exist without CLG taking those first brave steps. If you can do that, you've got an NRG fan for life.
