There's no feeling of dread like putting a car in for an MOT irrespective of how old or how good condition it is in. Great news in passing the test and great to see Will's SEC on the road.
The 205 GTi is one of the few FWD cars I'd happily own. Borrowed a mate's 1.9 to pick my Mum up from the airport years ago and scared the pants off her. Brilliant little cars, and still pretty 40 years after launch.
A mate had a 1.6 GTi as his first rally car. A602 KAC. He had it from 2005 until about 2010 - ish. We found out quite recently that the car still exists, but is very tatty, and also that it's the oldest surviving GTi in the UK. Sold on the first day they were available in '84.
Yeah, they're brilliant cars and very pretty indeed. Amazing how tiny they are compared to modern stuff. Great to hear your mate's old GTi is still around. Most of our old ones are long gone now. Is it being used or sitting in a garage waiting for a new lease on life?
@@ppcmagazine, it seems to have passed through a few hands, then ended up as a field car. Was found by someone last year who discovered it's the earliest surviving UK GTi and he was planning on trying to restore it. Dunno how that's going. I saw a few 'as found' photos, and there was a lot of added daylight in the bodyshell. Dunno if it's being returned to stock spec. As it was a rally car for 20+ years, it was caged and had very little interior trim. Plus years of being battered through gravel rally stages had changed the shape of the floorpan somewhat.
The biggest regret of my life was selling my last 205 GTI to buy a MKV golf GTI. Was offered it back for £10000😢. Anyone know what happened to G447SNL?
Lovely 👍 i found my old sorrento green G plate in 2021 after 15 years and 8 owners... sadly its still a rolling shell and tons of bits but got an engine and box waiting for when work commences 😂
@ppcmagazine 1.6. It came with a mi16 engine, but it looked to have never ran in the car. Sourced 1.6 engine and box locally. Hopefully started next year when other projects are out the way 🙏 look forward to next episode on this one 🙂
