The sound of that clutch on the minibike brought back memories of my go-cart. So many miles I put on that thing, so many drive tire (yes, tire) replaced, and that clutch ringing was just icing on the sheered-off-bolt-welded-back-on cake.
I have one just like it. You would be very surprised at how torque-y these 2 speed mini bikes are. Mine is all original and pulls me and my dad both on at the same time up a steep grade with no problem at all. Then hit the highway and the second clutch kicks in and it's smooth sailing from there. Whoever came up with this dual clutch jack shaft design is a genius.
Man that 2 speed bike is sweet hope you guys do a resto build with that. That frame you ended up with looks like it could make a sweet mini drag bike. Can't wait to see more! This build off is a good idea
Man I am so jealous. Didn't know you'd all be down there. Wish I lived in the states! That is epic. Looking forward to the next vid bros. You're legends.
To be a kid in the 70s... I was riding mini bikes with 3 and half. Or 5 hp . briggs and Stratton whrn i was 8, 9 , 10, till i got my 1st dirt bike wich was a 72 cl Honda scrambler.... You guys are having fun ! But I lived it when I was a kid.... Im 53 now.... I still love motorcycle and atvs
Y'all inspire me so much. When I see a go-cart minibike or a predator 212, I think about y'all. I'm personally working on an engine and I think, what would John and Ike do 😂
man this is awesome ya'll need to go picking and go to swap meets and i love seeing all my favorite youtuber's together you should do more collabs man so cool!
The Bible says. Were not supposed to envy. But. Holy Moly Gentlemen. You guys are having so much fun. Good for you guys. I had a lot of fun watching y'all.
simple: two ratios, two clutches set at different rpm. once the engine picks up in rpm, the second clutch kicks in. allows you to run a very short ratio AND still have some speed. i've seen this on antique bikes where belts take the role of the clutch.
Côme Thiburs neither your picture or description make it clear, you may assume your explanation is simple, but not everyone processes information the same. I happen to be someone who processes best through visual demonstrations. For example; I had trouble understanding how a limited slip rear end worked based on reading about it. After watching a video of one in action I fully understand.
I could have watched another hour of this video. I think Chris Craft is the most underrated of all you guys. But I watch every one of your channels very awesome.
It might be the right time with the right vintage mini bike to do a full-on restoration project. That bike appears to be a complete survivor so, all you have to do is rebuild it and make it look like new.
I was about to drive 10 hours to come see you guys! And not to mention that swap meet looked awesome! Love the vids! Hope ya'll got that 2 speed back home!
YOU BET!! just give me the date and I'll be there! Haha! Hey! Got me a Murray explorer kart I'm modding and putting an ex500 on it! Maybe I'll bring it to the next meet! Lol
Duddeee you guys being paired with rather b welding is so legit, Nothing personal I'm just not a huge red beard fan. But rather b welding had me excited
Back in the 60s their was a Tote Goat type thing called a Sherpa that had a high low range. But it wasn't shift on the fly. It was like road range and offroad range. Had really big tires and was more motorcycle size.
You guys should really check out some of the dragster mini bikes at Detroit Hood TV on RU-vid I'm a big carsandcameras fan and can't wait to see the rest of this build
I have a feeling that all the footage you've shot is going to make for some bloody good content! I can't wait *:)* P.S What is going to happen with the new minibike? Are you going to leave it as-is, or do some sort of light restoration?
hey guys, did yall get that 2 speed shipped back home from tx?.so rbg bought a already complete build?..that's so dissapointing ..i thought it was a build off not a buy off...anyways i hope yall are staying cool..it's almost 90 here in bama and supposed to get to 95 this weekend...love and stars from Bama
Heathkit Boonie bike had a two steep manual with a lever shifter in the middle of the frame. You needed a free hand to shift which was kind of hairy considering how hard it was to ride with such a wide back tire,
Do you guys plan on getting the vintage two speed minibike back home? I'd love to see yo guys spruce it up and see just what it can do, who knows maybe you could try a similar set up on a budget build bike but with newer bits? ether way with how quirky and weird and cool it is I think it'd be a perfect addition to your fleet.
Speaking of which, I do have an old mini bike frame, I still have my Briggs 5 HP engine, all's I need is a chain... Are they really all that fun to ride? Has a huge gear on it, I can't imagine it would have much speed to it. My 49cc chinese TaoTao scooter can top out about 60 mph, but it's street legal. Plus, I'm more of a 4-wheels guy. Worth restoring and powering it up?
My husband had the same clutch on his motor for 30 years and it lost all its bearings Springs in the first year he had it and it still works just fine with a little grease, then you're off and going. It's a Max Matic clutch setup to a 2-speed gearbox manufactured in Issaquah Washington by a Co. called Truly Trooper. Early 60s and 70s. It also had a step through frame and cargo box over rear wheel along with a front pack plate that acted like a fender. He still has owner's manual. I can't find anything on Google about it...👀👀❓
Mini bikes are so fun to ride and even more after you modify them or even a crazy engine swap and I do have a question. on the blue drift trike what is the name brand of the front bile tire? on it love the tread design
my first mini bike was a mid 70,s HPE cat mini bike got it from a local junkyard last year now im hunting for a Baja warrior mini bike i hope i find one
I wish more bikes had automatic transmissions at least a 3 speed automatic with neutral shouldn’t be hard for most bikes to handle it and not be problematic for it to fit in the frame make it nearly as wide as the engine and it replaces the jack shaft. Make it similar to as rear wheel drive cars transmission but much much smaller like by 85% smaller and make the frame 6 inches longer and 3 inches taller for better fitment of the engine and transmission
You guys are gonna need to buy a warehouse for all these mini bike and go carts you have I can wait to see your museum 1 day its gonna be awsome...you guys need to find and buy and old Honda oddesy and rebuild it better then read beards garage and then race them...
