Its so hard to find companies that have the two most important values anymore; quality and honesty. To see a company like yours do so well makes it all better - especially in these wild times. I read a lot of comments of people that lost slots logging in and processing payment. Could be they count the backer number on the first click but you don't get the pledge slot until after that.
I love Dougs passion to fix a problem that he had no obligation to fix. This is the reason Wyrmwood is one of the greatest companies out there. Love to see you guys doing your work and look forward to getting my hands on my table and sharing it with my group. Shout out to Jason doing his job as well. Can’t get blinded by your passion. They're a great company but goodness, a site failure is nothing to start a war over. I'm mildly horrified by their overzealous commitment for people's entertainment.
We got a Lilliput in Cherry with a Topper. Our thought being to expand the table when we move into a bigger home since we can't really put/afford a large table at the moment. Super stoked to fine more out about the conversion kits and to get the table! Thanks Wyrmwood!
I like how we get a look at these behind the scenes conversations of consequences. It makes me feel good about dealing with this company. I have a sense about who my money is going to and it makes me appreciate the quality more.
I love Doug as a CEO. I mean he could have easily said "Let's enjoy this moment for everyone." Yet he knows unless they do something they can join the group of bankrupt companies that kickstarter has made. The quote he gave "We are going to war." is amazing! That is the exact mindset and I was part of that awful launch and was pushed back 3 tiers because of it, but because everyone at Wyrmwood has said lets just build and make it up to them has regained my confidence. You guys (and critical) are the best companies I have ever interacted with in my 43 years of life.
I'm okay with us getting pushed further out than we'd like because demand was so high. It happens. The part that really hurt was the frustration of the Kickstarter experience as outlined in the video. It reminded me of my days in college when we registered for classes via phone and you were sitting there primed for when the phone lines would open up in order to get the class sections you wanted/needed, but would get a busy signal 95% of the time and have to hangup and redial, hangup and redial, etc. That was a ton of stress, and buying a table shouldn't be stressful. So thank you for recognizing that and working to make it up to us. I just fear that expanding the earlier tiers will just create more of that stress and frustration. Honestly I'd prefer it if you just kept it as is and worked to fulfill tiers faster than they're currently set.
Buying furniture in general is pretty stressful. Having to add in that you have to try to queue is added stress that really isn’t needed. I have a table right now that I inherited that I was looking to replace however I knew the chaos of their other ks so I didn’t even bother right now. I’ll wait to replace the table when they publish on their website unless somehow the spouse decided she would have it purchased already and we just get when we get it.
Agreed. Just honor the current tiers and backer order. Trying to re open early slots will just be a repeat of day 1, with wyrmlings clogging each other out of the system trying to move up, and random new backers getting the slots.
Maybe this is why I'm not really stressing about this, as well. I didn't have to call in for college courses, but we were some of the first classes to use online registration, and if you lived off campus and had dial up internet, it was a dicey process, to say the least. You're right, the kickstarter does have a very similar feel.
I wouldn't focus on trying to completely "right" anything that happened as a result of Kickstarter crashing. The tables look excellent and I don't think anyone will be upset long-term. IMO I think the best path forward is what you mentioned; trying to build up a production buffer. Next steps that would be great might be developing some matching chairs/benches for the table and making some lower-cost accessories as well. Maybe use the cupholder design concept (plastic/metal container in a wooden frame) to create more low-cost options for things like components, snacks, etc.
Given its popularity, this table will sell well after the kickstarter, so maybe give 5% off from accessories for all the backers, if they want to make it "right" and that can be done later when accessories are published. At the moment they need to keep their eyes on this project and manage that efficiently. I find it odd that kickstarter wont give out any order information before campaign is over, so production can be started if deemed safe option by company.
Hey Wyrmwood, I'm a little worried about one of your proposals. Ramping up production is great. However, if you open more slots, there's the danger that folks who came in to back really late will get those slots - that doesn't help the folks who got shunted down like 7 tiers, even when they were there at the first second of the KS. I think you're better to leave the tiers as they are and ship them earlier. Do it in the order of the waves, don't makes us rush for the earlier slots again. Thanks!

Agreed. You'll get the exact same issues with people disgruntled with missing a slot and breaking the system. If you want to do anything with tiers, look at backer numbers and automatically move them up by backer number.
Absolutely. If they going to commit to 700 tables a month (oct numbers). Keep the order and start with February. The October tables would be 4 months (and everyone after) early .
Thank you for acknowledging the Kickstarter issues! The fact that you said something about it really shows your care and feelings towards the Wyrmlings/backers! So excited to see where Wyrmwood goes in the next 10+ years.
The issue was that Kickstarter isn't designed to have literally 2000 people trying to get into just 300 slots on a tier, simultaneously. Their system is built to let people start the finalizing process (without reserving a slot), then checking if the slot's available once all the payment info is submitted. It's not like Ebay/Amazon/others use, where only 300 people could put a given product into their cart, and it has a time limit. That's not something that Kickstarter can change. I'd tried for wave 1, but by the time I got my details in, "the reward was gone" (I know, shocker). I skipped over Wave 2 even though it was available and went for Wave 3 and got it without issue. I think the people who only went for the earliest available tier got caught in the log-jam over and over. And yeah, there's little you can really do about it right now. You can make "the suck" suck less by stepping up production to get tiers out quicker than anticipated, but I think adding more slots to existing tiers is going to cause more problems than it solves (ex, if you have to cancel your spot to get a better spot, you could get caught in limbo where no new spots are available by the time you submit details, but someone took your old spot). I think the only way to prevent this issue in the future is by either using your own system, or going with another purchasing method. It's rough, cuz it's a large quantity of long lead items; idk if there's
A bit late but you don't have to cancel your pledge to switch to a different tier. You just hit "manage my pledge" on the campaign page and it gives you the option to add/subtract from your pledge or switch to another tier with the system saving all your info. My friend was able to go from Wave 8 to Wave 4 with no problem once they expanded. Again a bit late from this one but, for future reference, it might be a helpful tip for some.

It feels like you folks might have out-grown Kickstarter at this point, especially with the way that the tiers work. Maybe next time you should take pre-orders directly on your website (still with a minimum total $ value like Kickstarter does). Then there's just one global queue rather than a bunch of tiers that people have to madly get into before they fill up, and you know what everyone ordered right away. I'm sure building out the functionality you need and making sure it scales to this size would be expensive, but you'll also get to keep the 5% in Kickstarter fees. Seems at least worth looking into to me (you know, when you don't have thousands of tables to build xD)

They talked about this last season, they needed to know what type of ball game they were getting into. If this only did 1 million they would not be going to get more machines. They needed to know what to buy so they could perform the best. Its a great business model, get the money first, then make the product. Its just a bummer for the consumer to have to wait. But we live in an instant gratification world. I enjoy waiting, it reminds me that good things take time.
Totally, totally agree. Please DO NOT reopen tiers. I was sad to end up in wave 4, but I will NOT feel better to have people who weren't there at all the first day jump ahead of me. That feels terrible.
Jeff Hoffman I don’t know man, I was on the site starting at 12:30 ET just waiting for it to open. I got my apple payment through at 1:55 and KS proceeded to rail me until I was in wave 8... I blew a half day of PTO when I could have just casually logged on and grabbed wave 8. But I see your point, it would suck if someone just casually walked in and jumped ahead. It would be nice if they did slide some folks up a bit that got screwed, I do have a screenshot to prove I was there right out of the gate but that’s a lot of work to verify people.
@@dc345601 Yeah, I hear you. Almost nobody who showed up in the first 5 minutes was totally happy with how things played out... but hopefully they'll find a way to ship to everyone ahead of schedule, but in order, and that'll make us all (reasonably) happy. Seems like the best course now.
I’d agree, think opening more spaces in the tiers might drive additional resentment for people who got in later ones. Like, first they already couldn’t get in then now other later people get to ‘cut in line’. Think the lowest cost and best benefit to everyone will be to ramp up production, the advantage is the modularity right so you’re on the ball already with creating all the core elements as soon as you can to get a head start and then assemble when ready. But congratulations wyrmwood and keystone, you love to see good people be successful, a rising tide lifts all boats and all that.
I am really appreciative that you recognized how shitty the backing experience was - I know you guys spend a lot of time being the "bad boyz of tabletop" and celebrating yourselves as industry disruptors - and the product/marketing you do speaks for itself, it's why we're all here. But the empathy is very appreciated and it makes me feel like in the moment when I had been kicked out of early bird and then 3 more tiers and pushed forward with my pledge anyways - even though I almost backed out in a split second of being annoyed - I made the right choice to stick with y'all and just GET THAT TABLE. I'm excited to lose track of time and then get my table next year and feel like I got a really nice present for myself.
I think adding more slots just extends the suck even further. The niceness of getting moved up earlier won’t manifest for people until months and months from now so there’s no upside for you. The sting of watching other people get in before you is immediate. Just leave it as it is and try to ramp up production. Honestly nobody can tell the difference of a few months.
Here’s me; I’m not speaking for anyone else. I got the email and was there when the free shipping was the wave I could pick. I had the freeze issue multiple times and ended up in August. That was unfortunate but I knew this was gonna be big so I had somewhere in my mind expected that. In the end August is perfectly fine with me. I don’t want them suddenly overworking themselves and sanity, quality, or something else being sacrificed to make up for the slowdown.
Like many of the backers I went through the slide down the tiers from free shipping down to wave 5. I love the idea of ramping up production on the tables faster to ship earlier than the estimates in the waves (IMO this is the fairest approach given where we are). The idea of opening up more slots in the early waves and racing to get a better slot feels kind of random and would probably upset a lot of people.
It looks like they went ahead and opened up 100 more slots per tier which I didn’t see while at work. While my date doesn’t change, 400 people who were further back in the line now get their table before me. I appreciate the attempt to fix things, but this was not a good customer experience.
According to 2019 numbers This kickstarter is currently between Tainted Grail ($4.9 million; board game) and Shenmue 3 ($6.3 million; video game) at 15. None of the top 20 that were related to board games are out of business and 1 company that is out of business holds 3 separate slots. I would say that those of us who game have shown to be strong and loyal to the board games and the accessories. I would be surprised if this didn't break top 10 ($8.5 million) when we are at $5.3million in a little over the first 24 hours. Congrats guys!

Sadly, I have to reduce my pledge. I just found out I have $2200 in car repairs to figure out. Not sure I'll be able to come up with the cash for cherry this time around even in a Lilliput...

If it's helpful at all, we got in Wave 1 and we are looking to buy a black walnut medium table with same wood topper and black walnut lillput with same wood topper along with some accessories.
Luckily I watched the video at 1720, made sure I was home, got the email, and got into Wave 4. The things you do like this for your customers have made me one for a lifetime for sure.
Going to be playing on a medium black walnut table in wave 3. Apparently I was going to get it earlier but I was trying to pledge while hiding in the bathroom at work and kickstarter told me something went wrong the first few times around. Only found out later that I accidentally gave up my earlier spot.
I got myself the Maple Coffee Table with espresso topper. May upgrade to an espresso table as well, not sure. Same problem most had. Was in at 10:54 AM PST and tried the early bird. Got kicked down to October. Got the email. But, it came in at 11:01. I don’t blame you guys at all on this and I appreciate all that you do. I wasn’t happy at how it all went down at first but now I’m grateful to be apart of this Kickstarter. October 2021, Big Red is ready ❤️
almost the exact same thing. i think i got the email before it launched, but i'd also signed all four of my email addresses up for it lol. refreshed at 10:54 exactly, saw the empty early bird tier, ended up with september only because after getting kicked out of early bird, march, may, and july, i thought maybe it'd work if i skipped the next available one (august) to the one after.
unepommeverte17 That’s a big problem I don’t think they saw happening. Was people getting bumped lower from early bird to then going down the list while others are going for the lower waves and eating up that up to have people being funneled in both directions
TLDR: disappointed in launch, but still excited about it. The Good: All in all, I'm actually pleased about the streamlined Visualizer and how easy it made calculating my pledge, aside from shipping, and I have to admit that things could have gone much worse. The site layout could have used more polish (redundant information in some areas but lacking information in others, lack of info for stretch goals, lack of shipping details, etc.), but conveyed the product accurately and highlighted why the product is so awesome. The commitment to quality and an eagerness to satisfy the customer by Wyrmwood is unparalleled, and I'm confident about the fulfillment stage. I'm excited that I managed to get my pledge in comparatively early even with the technical difficulties of the site, and I'll be a proud owner of a padauk Lilliput and accessories with the intent of upgrading once I have more space. It's thrilling to be a part of this campaign, and I'm eager to see where this takes Wyrmwood. The Bad: As one of the people who were actively waiting to pledge at launch, literally sitting at my computer staring at the Kickstarter page an hour before, I'm honestly extremely disappointed in how things went down. The signup list to be notified 15 minutes early about launch was worthless because of delays (I got mine 15 min AFTER launch) and I only knew the project went live due to a phone notification from Kickstarter because I follow y'all on that platform. The actual Kickstarter page had trouble loading due to high backer volume (which is admittedly not Wyrmwood's fault). By the time I'd get my payment info entered and submitted (with autofill on for my bank info to submit that much faster), the tier I was aiming for and the next tier would be full and I'd have to try again, pushing back which tier I could enter. This happened 3 times. I wound up in Wave 7 (August Build) and received my confirmation email from Kickstarter at 11:08 AZ. The shipping costs are, as always with a Kickstarter, vague and confusing. I feel like more prep work on the tier limits, page design, and communicating with Kickstarter for more site bandwidth at launch would have made the customer experience much better.
I’ve only backed currently backed at the Lilliput level since I have to have surgery but want to try to aim for the coffee or medium table. Worst case, as Doug said, it’s a marathon and I’ll upgrade later. ^_^
Congrats on the success of this campaign! I'm happy to see and love/respect that you're trying to make things better for all those who had issues at launch. You won't be able to make everyone happy, but I think you'll make many more happy! All you can do is try, and you guys are awesome at that!
I can't wait until I can buy one of these babies in 2023 or beyond when I can get one shipped internationally. Would love to have been part of the kickstarter, but the lag on international orders just doesn't work with my situation. Good chance I'll end up buying one when they can be ordered from the website in a couple years though if my interim solution doesn't live up to the task.

You guys have been the best customer service I've ever dealt with. I'm so excited to see where this takes your company and keystone. And the fact that you guys are taking such drastic steps to overcome a kick starter problem is incredible.
I really don't like the idea of adding more numbers to the tiers. I was there at the launch and even clicked early bird but after multiple freeze ups and refreshing I got August. Now I potentially have to go fight the kickstarter system again or other are going to get in line in front of me? I prefer the idea that you guys just fulfill as fast as you can. If you get to my wave early then great, but don't put 100s more people in front of me by adding more to the tiers, it feels like letting people cut in line and honestly is a punishment if I don't jump on those emails to try and improve my spot.
How are you being punished? You locked in your delivery date. There is literally no impact on your individual delivery. The fact that more people are benefitting is not hurting you. You were even given just as much of a chance to get an earlier delivery. Them ramping up delivery time tables is only benefitting you.
@@ryanfitch750 It is a sort punishment, because if they just increase production without adding new early slots, then everyone just gets earlier deliveries and benefits equally. Opening new slots takes the possibility of early delivery away from everyone equally, and randomly gives it in larger time frames to a few people who are lucky.
@@optimusprimmv1 That isn't a punishment. If the new tier slots delay the delivery of later ones then it is a punishment. The OPs life changed by an amount of 0. No positive or negative net gain as of now. Feeling unsatisfied with Wyrmwood's decision is certainly valid, but don't try to claim you are being punished.
You guys are legit amazing, and yes, Kickstarter did fail. We didn’t even bother selecting details and we went through 3 waves of processing hanging and failures before we tried skipping a wave and finally got it to process. Free shipping to Alaska would have been awesome! For our order, we are either getting the medium with conversion to large assuming the conversion kits are available before we have to pick, or the large Padauk with topper if the converter isn’t available yet. Plus a plethora of the accessories in matching Padauk. We have been waiting for months for this and eyeing tables for 2 years now. So excited!
Now is quite possibly one of the best times to buy a gaming table. Local stores still arent allowing a whole ton of gaming, if any at all, to be done inside the property, so having one at home is honestly a great idea. And with how modular your table really is, it should be a no-brainer to go wyrmwood if ever someone wanted a gaming table. You guys'll do great.
I love that you guys are doing your best to fix Kickstarter's mistakes. I think doing your best to ramp up production and get tiers fulfilled earlier is the best option. Opening up the tiers again is just going to cause more chaos. Let people report with their backer number and exactly what they want so you can get ahead of the curve.
So, I was hit hard by the kickstarter bat and got knocked from March all the way until August yesterday. It was a disappointment but tbh I am super excited to be able get a Wyrmwood table. I am also super excited to be able to support the Wyrmwood and Keystone companies. It is great to see quality craftsman being hired and having jobs during shitty times like this. Then you guys opened more slots up and that was the icing on the cake. I moved from August down to April and I really couldn't be more excited. Thank you all for helping with a situation that wasn't really in your control. I got into Wyrmwood through Wyrmlife and this is my first purchase. Without these videos I never would have had the chance to do this and I am grateful for what you guys do.
Love the tables and can't wait to get our coffee table. My husband and I have been together for 13 years at the end of August and we've never bought "real" furniture until this kickstarter. We're starting as big as we can and can't wait to get the kits to make a bigger table down the road. Thank you so much for doing this. Our core group of friends will be starting our first campaign, hopefully, in early 2021 and we're all excited to play on this table. We've settled on the Espresso Maple with the charcoal felt. Medium Walnut table with topper and a bunch of other accessories. Was crushed I didn't get in an early slot because of kickstarter...for like an hour, then loved watching how well it went for you. Now I'm just rooting for your success and all the cool stuff I get to buy from you for years to come.
I was there at the 5 min. launch constantly refreshing and got pushed all the way to teir 4, even got an email saying oops sorry you didn't get that and then got one saying I got it but didn't. The option to get earlier tiers is cool and all but there are people that work till midnight( I am one of them) and the fact that I wasn't able to find out about the extra tier slots till 6 hours later doesn't feel all that great to be honest. At this point with how much the goal was broken a couple of free accessories would be great.

Considering all the "main assembly" are the same for all table, create a stock of those now so that when the actual orders arrive, you only need to produce the upgrade parts.
I am glad to know I wasn't the only one experiencing problems. I logged in with the WyrmWood headstart, and kept getting frozen out of the system. I missed all of the early tiers and am so glad doug cares so much about us. I hope that I can get into one of those unlocked tiers and get my table much sooner than expected. Either way Love you guys and its amazing that you even take the time to make the WyrmLife episodes. Its been a journey and cant wait to see what WyrmWood becomes.

Thank you for being so open and self aware of Kickstarter pitfalls! As an economics student I know why so many KS get int otrouble, scaling up production is an absolute nightmare for these small, non-business minded companies. I even wrote a paper for a college class talking about the relationships between Overfunded Kickstarters and delays to Final Product (I didnt even touch the failed KS's in my number crunching, only mentioned them). Not saying you won't have some hiccups (especially with how the world trade is currently), but better to get ahead early!
I love how James has gone from passionate but a little sad that his business has been struggling, to total wood working fury after the initial numbers came in. You can see this meant so much to him and how pumped he is for his workers.
It was super frustrating at the launch to have Kickstarter stall so much, got in each tier (free shipping through wave 8) and stalled every time until I finally got in on wave 8. I’m glad for yawlll. I was one of those people who clicked the button at 1:57 to lock my place in and it all fell apart. Sadly I ended up not pledging for a later delivery. I look forward to watching yawll grow.
I wanted a modular table so much...Large table, I want the big boy. I was tuned in on the original launch day, only to be shut down for a week. The following week, a little event occurred in the midwest that maybe you've heard of...a derecho. And I live in one of the hardest spots hit. No power, no internet, no cell phone. I drove around the following night to find an available cell signal so that I could place my order via my phone. It will be October of next year, but I got it! Thanks Wyrmwood, for making sure the incident with Kickstarter got fixed!
YOU GUYS KILLED IT!!!!!! And I'll be taking mine Medium espresso with maple topper (normal) 6 small cup holders, 2 large cup holders , 6 modular organizers, 1 desk, 1 topper holder, 1 game divider, ash felt, battle map with acrylic all in espresso maple. I AM SO PUMPED!
I know I like many were upset when KS dropped the ball and a lot of people who came early got pushed to the later tiers. However, I know I really appreciate the effort Wyrmwood is putting into trying to make it right even though it was not their fault. I think even if your unable to get our tables early everyone would be understanding especially since you are so open about the whole process. Super excited to get my table next year! Congrats on the success so far and I wish you the best of luck in months to come and don't forget to breath!

I can by no means afford any of their tables, but watching Wyrm Lyfe and watching these genuinely great people succeed at what they are doing is just so rewarding in its own right. You guys, working as a team, are really good at getting your presentations & products to a superior look so everyone who looks at the Kickstarter presentation or watches the Wyrm Lyfe you tube shows should be impressed. My wife would love it if I was that dedicated to things in life.

Excellent video! The kickstarter trailer looked great, the compilation at the end was great with by far the most appropriate song I think for this season. I'm personally hoping I can get in on this, but ya'll keep crushing it! I can't wait to see what happens next.
Man, I had some computer issues that may have put the wood I want out of my price range. I love what you're making here, and so glad for Wyrmwood, and for James to see his company is gonna have work and survive...just not certain I can be a part of it

Got a Medium Cherry table... with topper, topper block, and a bunch of accessories. May increase pledge again to add more stuff and increase to war gaming size per the wife’s instructions. I’m glad I chose you guys, just so hard to beat the quality of the work you put out.
