Putting only roosters inside one coop sounds like a crazy idea. Today we try to get all of our roosters in the same coop. Heres how it went and why we did this for our chickens.

We've been through this, too, with roosters! They can become challenging. Our last rooster was a beautiful Brahma rooster that we really liked, but he by himself was even too much rooster for a flock of 16 hens. We ended up selling him, because we just didn't have a good reason to keep him if he was too much for our hens. Great video. Very informative! Thanks for your time & effort!

My first flock was a straight run, 4 roosters, 2 hens. A hawk got one hen and the other hen injured herself and we quarantined her. The boys got along well together without any hens. Ultimately I couldn't find anyone that would take them.

bro you got big ones! I would never try to catch my roosters 😂I had 6 roosters to start with, 2 of them were suppose to be girls. I ate 3 of them and now the 3 remaining boys have calmed down and the girls are not getting ragged on as hard. Still no predator deaths. They do a good job of keeping the ospreys, hawks, and eagles from snatching anything up. Great video man. Thanks for sharing! Hope you and the fam are well!

U need to invest in a large fishing net on a pole...they are very cheap, and open enough to not hurt your birds, but strong enough to hold them, and it gives u that few extra feet advantage...way less running around. .and they dont cost much either..

Omg I’m so glad I’m not the only one who “manhandles” the chickens. I pampered and spoiled my chicks indoors until they were good sized. But as soon as I turned them loose in the run with their permanent coop… they will not stand still for me to pick them up and they love to start squirming around and kicking. When watching this video, I saw you doing exactly what I do so I know I’m not the only one now. I’ll sneak up on them and lunge from behind. If I have to open the coop door, I’ll squeeze them around the wings in the crook of my elbow pretty firmly because if they don’t know that you’re the boss they’ll start kicking and scratching to get down as soon as they know you’re going to let them down. I am finished with having scratches all over my legs and arms trying to be gentle and polite. 😂 I used to cuddle them to my chest but I don’t do that anymore either because they’ll snag my earrings. I had to take my nose ring out for a long time because they were fascinated with it. Now I hold them around my waist area and I let their legs dangle while I apply pressure to their back because that’s what the rooster does and they will submit. But if it’s a Rooster … then it becomes a battle. The most important thing I’ve noticed is to spend a lot of time with my roosters on a regular basis. Thankfully, one of my roosters is a bantam and he’s easy to handle and very timid so far. But he’s still very young so that’s going to change. But I’m pretty sure I have two other roosters or at least they’re starting to look like roosters but no 100% confirmation yet. Those two are a mess! One is an Australorp and the other one’s a leg horn. Once I get them calmed down, everything is fine to hold them. But it is always a battle of wills and I have to assert my dominance. I kind of feel guilty and embarrassed that my neighbors probably are laughing at me, but, they don’t have chickens. I also feel like it’s important to keep an emotional distance from the two regular sized roosters because only one of them is staying. The other one… probably dinner. Unfortunately, tractor supply forces you to buy four chicks at a time where I’m at. So if you get straight run, you don’t know if you’ve got a rooster or not, and the odds of getting more than one rooster is pretty high. I tried to sex them in the store, but I wasn’t given quite the opportunity I needed. My local feed store that swore on a stack of Bibles to sell me only pullets may have been wrong. Three of my Australorps have ruddy pink very small combs & wattles. But one of them has bright dark red and getting a very tall comb and its tail is getting longer than all the others so I’m thinking… rooster. That wouldn’t be so bad to breed Australorps and segregate those 4. But that means the leg horn who is scrawny and flighty and terribly smart and probably will be a very tough bird for dinner… it’s going to be the one culled. It’s my only leg horn, it’s white, gets filthy, and while it started out huge as a chick, and I thought it would be a monster, it has stayed bantam size and is skinny, and very nervous compared to all the other chickens. I’m not a fan. So I definitely have to chase that one and grab it and hold it by its legs and let it flap around until it calms down before I can even hold it. You don’t usually see chicken wrangling on these videos, so I was feeling quite guilty. Thanks so much for alleviating my conscience because I’m doing the same thing you’re doing. 😂 I just hope I get 50 eggs a week out of my 10 laying hens since you got 63 eggs from your bakers dozen. 🐓

I am laughing that you spent so much time to build this tractor for them, yet neglected to spend a wee bit more time to make moving it easier for yourself. I am not a chicken owner nor do I pretend to be one, you need a rope & a piece of hose. You also need to buy a long handled fishing net.
