We built the Big Wheel! Mike from @WoodworkandWeld and I agree that The Price Is Right Wheel we did for the @themakercollab was one of the hardest projects either of us have ever done. The size, weight, and required tolerances added to the challenge. Thankfully, we each brought different skillsets to the table and learned new ones along the way. This project used an entire shop’s worth of tools: a @CNCThunder router, TIG welder, laser cutter, 3D printer, @CriCut vinyl cutter, electronics, fonts, @Sketchup, Vcarve, and carpentry.
The build was not without its challenges. After the first wheel was cut on the CNC, the glue up did not go as planned, requiring another skeleton to be cut and assembled. Prototyping the numbers proved to another challenge as well. Finding the right materials and learning the painting technique was frustrating with many failed attempts. Finally, as we assembled everything, all of our lights stopped working! We overcame all of the challenges and obstacles, learned a bunch of new skills, and were able to complete the build!
We hope our project brings back fond memories of childhood and nostalgia. We would like the wheel to find a home as a fundraising piece for a non-profit or with a party rental company. We assume that just like us, everyone else who has seen this wheel has wanted to spin it! Now they will have a chance!
