Hey everyone back with Railroads Online! Today Hyce and I are back delivering our first iron hopper to the smelter! Unfortunately we are super broke still so this is possibly the saddest train we've ever built...

I bought the Glenbrook as my first engine (besides Betsy) and it's awesome, it's whistle has a pitch between Betsy's and the Class 48's. The Glenbrook has a ton of power, not quite as much as the Class 48 though

that is not the saddest little train in RRO. give Betsy some love given what you two put her through! go grab the Goat and tie onto every Car you own to make some cash to buy a decent Road Engine and 5 more Hoppers. refill the Logging Pond. then empty the Lumberyard completely selling it at the Depot until there's nothing at the Mill. then refill the Logging Pond to restock while you build from the Iron Mine to the Coal Mine. find a spot at the Helper Station to place a Fueling station to replenish the helpers take the hoppers and a pair of Cordwood Cars up to make sure there's fuel for everybody be they local help or long haulers.

Talking about the Polar Express, someone actually did a breakdown on that ice scene and there was apparently a shot of the wheels where two johnson bars were visible. Not sure if the any train ever actually had two but the movie at least represented it as such I guess

I'm a professional captain and have run tugboats and supply boats most of my career. The logistic similarities of the the two transport industries is really amazing. The way the vehicles work is different but to perform the work of transporting goods is nearly the same. Harbor tugs are the switching engines and can form entire companies themselves just to push barges around a harbor from loading docks to staging areas. You have instances where a single tug may not be able to make progress up a river with a strong current (Mississippi River in the spring time, for instance) and a second or even third tug is used as an assist tug. Port harbors are managed by a "Harbor Master" same job as a "Yard Master" and heaven help you if you choose to ignore their instructions. Most tugs and supply boats work in several week rotations and the crew live on the boat during their rotation - crew quarters = caboose. And if it wasn't for civil "working" radio frequencies a working port harbor would be a cacophony of sounding whistles and people trying to shout instructions to each other.

I have been working there for almost two years and have learned quite a lot but just in watching this one video I have learn so much more and it's so interesting how all the little pieces come together to make something so cool and keep the world up and running in the background of everyday life. That being said GREAT video and keep up the good work!! I'll be looking forward to the next one!!

I love watching Kan surf the train as they putt about....one thing though, is it not true that a train isn't a train unti the marker lights are put on? Can we talk breifly about marker lights for cabooses and locos sometime? I know the Brits use marker lights or lamps on the front of their engines, but we use marker lights differently and I know Hyce knows of these things, then after that maybe we can goof off with whistles?

A few British engines had angled cylinders. Including the one of a kind Midlands railway Big bertha which was a specialised 0-10-0 banking engine and the British rail 9f which was a massive (for British standards but modest compared to things in America) 2-10-0 feieght engine. It was siad that angling the cylinders meant that all the drive rods were aligned with the piston on the power stroke meaning less power was lost through resistance in the rods. It was also beneficial in the 9f as it allowed the engine to be a few feet shorter without having to make the cylinders smaller or the power stroke shorter. (I feel this is more likely than the first) allowing the engine to still fit on existing turn tables, engine sheds and adhere to British loading guage (which is smaller than us and EU) A third benefit is for engines with internal cylinders as it allows them to be longer but not interfere with the axel in front of the powered wheel set.

Food for thought on todays ore cars. 1 car weighs 96,000 lbs empty and is filled with 100-110 ton's of product. 244 cars pulled by 3 head units and 2 mid mounted engines. Well that's in my neck of the woods on the iron range. Thanks for the shows KAN.
@YurtFerguson
@YurtFerguson Год назад
I was thinking, one way to streamline the turnaround at the ore mine would be instead of having a complete run out and then a switch to the turntable have your primary line run down to an area where you can place a turntable and then you can turn the turntable a little bit and connect the return line out at that slightly different angle so you can just run right onto the turntable spin around and go out on the opposite track

So much of heavy machinery relies on gravity. Tank turrets are completely free floating. None of them are secured by anything other than gravity, which is why so many of the Russian tanks that lack blowout panels have their turrets try to reach orbit when an ammo rack explodes.
