@@TimothyLafreniere But why should he have to? It was a Chuck Berry Song. What could Keith Richard had done anyway? This song wasn't written for him and the Rolling Stones.
@@debjorgo I saw them together at a small-ish club in NYC in 1985 or 1986. Always assumed it was just one stop on a tour, but I'll take your word for it. Looks like it probably was just a one-off kind of thing. Great show though.
@@debjorgo It was at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis. I was there, but it wasn't as much fun as you might think. They weren't just shooting a video it was a movie and they kept stopping the show for retakes and there were a lot of time between songs as they changed out musicians and such. I'm still glad I went, but it was kind of frustrating to a point.
@@billchaney8791 That sounds kind of cool, really. As long as you knew what you were getting on the front end. I know Keith was trying to push Chuck, to get a good performance from him, without causing Chuck to get mad. I think Chuck had already punched Keith years earlier for touching his guitar.
Along with Elvis, Buddy Holly, and Jerry Lee Lewis, not to mention Little Richard, these were the very first stars of this new music called Rock and Roll. These guys are legends.
He is so fun to watch, I love the comedy spin he puts on all of his songs. He was such a personality. There is no one like him, one of a kind. He was the King of 1950's guitar music in my book. Many other guitarist through the decades have copied their styles and riffs from him. He was a great inspiration to a lot of the British groups that came out in the 60's like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Keith Richards is the guitar player in the Rolling Stones and is known for being very inventive. In the video he is the one playing quietly in the back wearing a suit. I think he was happy to just be there playing with his hero. Probably if video had more of the show, we would have see them playing together. A fun fact in the movie Back to the Future, Marty McFly played by Micheal J. Fox is imitating Chuck Berries style when he plays the guitar at the end of the movie, also doing the duck walk. Its really funny. :)
Chuck said sometimes he thought his carrier was a imitation of Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Every one has their influences. look up the Sister, she pretty much invented lead guitar
Thanks for looking her up. She always seams to get left out in the berth of rock conversations. You tube also has a video called rock and roll before the 50's, I found interesting. @@delisamarchetti5926
Chuck Berry invented that back in the 1950s, and every guitar player does that bit at least once in their musical career. That was Chuck Berry's trademark.
Except T-bone Walker was duck walking, playing with his teeth, playing behind his head and, heck, playing electric guitar solos back in the 1930. Somewhere there’s a video of Chuck paying tribute to Walker.
@@empire7179 First? Always hard to say. Also, jump blues can be argued to be rock and roll. Ike Turner’s Rocket 88 was either the first or second Rock n Roll tune. When you realize that Chuck Berry, Ike Turner, BB King and a whole bunch of others were orbiting Memphis and Chicago, it’s hard to think of Rock n Roll as anything more than a jump blues marketing device.
I was fortunate enough to get to see Chuck Berry live at Disneyland in 1979 on oldies night. He blew us away with his duck walk! On another stage (the one that comes up out of the ground) we got to see The Diamonds perform Little Darlin’. What a great night it was!
Chuck was just fantastic. He is a legend. So admired and inspiring. Mr. Entertainer. Keith Richards is the lead guitarist for The Rolling Stones. He is playing next to Chuck in the Blue Tux. There is a video on RU-vid of Keith Richards Inducting Chuck Berry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Chuck was very much admired by other artist especially guitarists.
Yes Chuck Berry is one of the founding fathers of Rock & Roll and the biggest influence of Rock guitar. Every Rock guitarist goes through the Chuck Berry school when learning to play directly or indirectly. Bob Seger mentions "All Chuck's children are out there paying his licks" in his song "Rock & Roll Never Forgets".
Sweet! Chuck Berry was 60 years old there. In fact, the concert was held to celebrate his birthday in 1986. The clip is from the movie "Hail! Hail! Rock 'n' Roll". Yes, that's Keith Richards, and Bobby Keys on saxophone. The backup singers were Etta James, Julian Lennon, and Linda Ronstadt. Chuck Berry created rock and roll (along with Little Richard and Elvis Presley among others). When you're ready for more from him check out some of these classics -- "School Days", "Rock'n'Roll Music", "You Never Can Tell", "No Particular Place to Go", "Promised Land", "Around And Around", "Back In The U.S.A.", and "Little Queenie" along with many others.
I’m 77 years young. You guys are great! I saw him live in 1970 at my college . He did the duck walk then……no idea how old or young he was but he was fabulous. Thank you 🙏
He was famous for that duck walk! He had such an influence on so many bands-The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, so many others. Beloved icon-sure miss him!
Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Big Mama Thornton were the foundations then came Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Elvis, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bill Haley and Buddy Holly. They took the blues threw in some country and a whole lot of attitude. Oh and Keith was the guitarist behind Chuck and just so you know Keith is in the Rolling Stones and is a walking medical miracle.
The best part was when you thought Keith Richards was a Sax player. This was an All Star tribute concert to honor Chuck Berry that Keith Richards put together to honor his idol - Chuck Berry. There was a behind the scenes documentary about it and Chuck was VERY difficult to deal with. I love his music but he was a very difficult and flawed man off stage.
My dad absolutely loved, Chuck Berry. Therefore I grew up listening to him. He was an amazing man/talent. Thanks for this. I always love and appreciate your reactions.
Keith Richards is the guitar player with grey hair. He's also something like the musical director of this concert. He had a hard time with Chuck.Chuck had a ,euh,a special sense of humour. The sax player,he's Bobby Keyes, one of the best friend of Keith Richards. And a great sax player. Anyway,Chuck Berry is such an artist.A man who maybe not invented his guitar style,Sister Rosetta Sharpe and T Bone Walker showed the way,but he is the man who showed the world what you can do with it,and he's such a guitar player. And he's one of the greatest lyricist in rock history
Love your reaction to CHUCK BERRY'S Duckwalk. He did it first long before Angus young did his own interpretation of it years later for his band AC/DC check out THUNDER STRUCK.Love you guys.
One day this guy named Chuck Berry accelerated the Blues and invented Rock, THANK YOU SO MUCH DAD CHUCK, the world thanks you. A big hug from this Brazilian fan...
This was during a time when Keith sought out Chuck--"the Father of Rock & Roll"--to work with him, and to bring other musicians together with him to celebrate Chuck's 60th birthday. It was 1986. He made it into a documentary, which is what this is from.
Keith Richards put together a band for a concert for Berry's 60th birthday, and invited a number of other singers and musicians to make cameo appearances. They made it into a movie called Hail, Hail, Rock and Roll. This is a clip from the movie. Watch the whole thing! I love "Rock and Roll Music" with Etta James, check it out.
Hi Shawn and Mel. This was I believe Chuck Berry's 70th birthday that was his signature move he originally did this song when he was a much younger man. Most of his songs are delivered with a sense of humor that was one of a kind. If you like Chuck Berry you will probably like Bo Diddly as well.
This is from a concert film made to celebrate Chuck Berry's 60th birthday back in 1987. My favorite part was Chuck and Robert Cray performing " Brown eyed Handsome man."
As mentioned, Keith Richards is a British guitarist for the Rolling Stones, was was inspired so much by Chuck Berry that he did this special concert featuring Chuck Berry in 1987: Hail Hail Rock 'N' Roll. This is a MUST watch for an anyone interested the he influence of Chuck Berry and Rock and Roll music! Chuck Berry influenced the Stones, the Beatles, Manfred Mann. ELO, Dave Clark Five, etc, etc. Chuck Berry was the guitar magic man!
Check out Hank Marvin and The Shadows sometime. They were Cliff Richard's backing group and also had some solo hits. They don't duck walk, but have some nice moves along with their guitar playing 🎶💙✊
This man was invented the duck walk , I know he was before my time but I heard of him as his talent speaks for self and I saw that video of him doing that I knew even when kid who the greats were and are, this man is a legend and great stage presence I love watching him
Don't miss another outstanding performance from this same concert. Here, Chuck Berry plays guitar as great as usual... while Linda Ronstadt belts out Chuck's great "Back in the USA" lyrics. Chuck even duck walks around a dancing Linda. Linda sings her heart out with that wonderful, unique, strong voice of hers. It looks like Chuck really enjoyed how well Linda sang his old hit. And Linda was obviously enjoying every second of it too... Her arm motions are a real hoot. And Keith Richards adds a great guitar riff. My favorite part: When the St Louis audience goes nuts and Linda flashes her million-dollar smile. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OWTKxIjZmfs.html
There’s a short video of Keith Richards telling a story about Chuck punching him in the face when he caught him touching his guitar Keith thought it was hilarious 😂. Another great one is him and Bruce Springsteen when Chuck was being (the very first person ever) inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame ☮️💜
one of my Favorite Chuck Berry songs...Chuck always had a story, usually hysterically funny. tis was taken from his 60th Birthday concert in a theatrical film he did which included stars such as John Lennon's son Julian, Linda Ronstadt, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, etc. They all covered his songs in the past. Film was made in 1986, released in 1987. Yes 60 years old and still able to Duck Walk
Keith is the wild haired guitarist. He produced the show n put the band together bc he loved Chuck n made a career off Chuck’s rhythms. The sax is Bobby Keys, a Rolling Stones regular all star. The rest of that documentary is cool! Chuck was the beginning of the Classic Rock n Roll guitarists.
He invented rock and roll music. He never got recognized for that. He is so amazing. He also invented the duck walk. Keith Richards is a guitar player.
"I was campaign shouting like a Southern diplomat." lmdao. Saxman is Bobby Keys, Keith's late longtime friend, sax-player and partner-in-crime, since 'Live with Me' from the 1969 Rolling Stones album 'Let it Bleed', and most famously 1971's 'Brown Sugar', one of several star turns by him on 'Sticky Fingers. Resume? Whoa!! Keith, the other guitarist onscreen, is the acknowledged soul of the Rolling Stones, and Mick Jagger's songwriting partner for nigh-on 60 years; he has always proudly worn his stylistic debt to Chuck. The film, 'Hail Hail Rock and Roll' was an idea that grew out of a desire to celebrate Chuck's 60th birthday. Star-studded event(s -2 concerts were staged and/or shot). Keith and Chuck co-produced the film, Taylor Hackford directed. On YT and Amazon Prime. Glad you enjoyed, it's a joy to share with friends, family. We're that. Love you too, thanks for being you, doing what you do. Cheers. D
This film was made for Chuck's 65th birthday! Johnny Jones (the original piano player)! Bobby Keys on sax, Keith Richards on guitar, the cast is endless! Chuck was the original writer of teenage love, truly the Father of Rock 'n Roll!
Keith Richards ( Guess we'll give him rhythm guitar on this one ) His full time gig is playing lead for Mick & Rolling Stones, he jumped for a chance to work with Chuck ✌😎 If you watch the documentary about the whole behind the scenes practice & work up for this performance Keith had the patience of a Saint working with Chuck... ( who is known for changing songs mid stream & wanting things just right 😉) In the end it all worked out for the best... what a show ! 😎🎸
There is a video of him playing Johnny be goode at the rock and roll hall of Fame concert with Bruce Springsteen. He has to be in his 60"s and he does the duck walk and the whole stadium goes crazy.
The Sax player was Bobby Keys. Kieth is playing guitar. They were born on the exact same day, Keith near London and Keys near Lubbock, Texas. Bobby Keys while not an inner core member of the Rolling Stones played on a lot of their albums and is part of the touring group. Kieth Richards is one of the co-founders of the Rolling Stones and the man who inspired a million memes. It's time we all thought about what kind of world our grand-kids are going to leave for Kieth Richards.
