I didn't know how IMPORTANT Chuck Berry is - Johnny B. Goode (Reaction!) 

Chuck Berry was 70 years old here, that was great, and he was still rocking it like no one else. One of the best live performances I have seen. Also I really like how Bruce Springsteen, and the other members of his band, looks at Chuck Berry like little children who look at their hero. :)

Chuck Berry’s music was included on the Voyager space explorer by NASA, along with Mozart, jazz, the sounds of the earth, human languages etc. The story goes that Aliens sent back a message to Earth: ‘Send more Chuck Berry.’ Now you can see why! 😉

Without Chuck Berry the world would have been a very different place . The vast majority of guitar heroes first lifted a guitar when they heard Chuck Berry and wanted to play Johnny B Goode.

Chuck Berry is nicknamed the "Father of Rock & Roll". "Johnny B. Goode" is one of his most famous songs from 1958. He had a lot of hits in the 50's-60's such as "Maybellene", "Roll Over Beethoven", "No Particular Place To Go", "Rock & Roll Music", "You Never Can Tell", "Nadine" etc. He was known for his guitar solos, duckwalk & showmanship.

That's called the Duck Walk bro! I am from St Louis where Chuck was born and raised and lived his entire life. I saw Chuck Berry live 5 or 6 times here in ol St.LOO. His "home base" venue to play live at once he stopped touring was a great iconic bar in St Louis called Blueberry Hill. He played shows once a month in their basement bar in his 60s, 70s, and 80s! The basement bar only held a few hundred people and he sold out every month fast. The basement bar was called....THE DUCK ROOM. I've got Chuck's autograph (he'd sign after shows for awhile), I've shaken his huge hand. I was at his 80th bday celebration when Aerosmith's lead guitarist Joe Perry was in the audience, and he joined Chuck on stage for a few tunes. I was one of the few "fortunate" members of the public who attended Chuck's Funeral Memorial Service across the street from Blueberry Hill at another music venue called The Pageant. The Memorial service was surreal. They bring Chuck's casket out for a visitation for everyone to pass by and pay their respects, and he's laying in the coffin dressed up very nicely with his signature Captain's sailor cap. And his GUITAR is placed in the casket alongside of him! There were plenty of remembrances, speeches etc. Then the music part starts with many gospel tunes, many sung by his son and daughter. Then iconic rock and roller and close friend of Chuck's, Johnny Rivers,comes out and with a band of St Louis musicians that were close to Chuck, play a few songs. Oddly, one of the speeches was by Gene Simmons of KISS, who I had seen standing in the back watching. I don't think that was planned, because I doubt Chuck hung around Gene Simmons, but KISS was in town playing a concert, so I think he just showed up. The whole thing was a bit out there, but Chuck was always a character and an enigma. (He would always demand that the venues he played at pay him CASH. He drove to all of his gigs himself in big ol Eldorado Cadillacs, and he would frequently not stay overnight in the city he played in, he would take a red eye flight back home.) Don't let anyone tell you that Elvis was the King of Rock and Roll, it was Chuck Berry. He sang, played guitar that set the template for rock guitar, and UNLIKE ELVIS, HE WROTE ALL HIS OWN SONGS, dozens of them became frequently covered by the Beatles, Stones, and everyone in between. Just about every time Springsteen came to St Louis to play a concert, he would play a Chuck Berry song in tribute. You need to get the blu ray movie of his life, HAIL HAIL ROCK AND ROLL! which includes his entire 60th Birthday Tribute Concert with Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, Linda Ronstadt, Etta James etc. Its awesome.

"The Father of Rock 'n' Roll"! He IS responsible for ALL the rock that has come along since. An incredible catalog of hits. He did, indeed, invent the "duck walk", which he does in this video. Bruce Springsteen is another rock icon WELL worth checking out. Thanks for your reaction.

I am not a Springsteen fan, BUT yes, check him out, especially when with the E Street band. His lyrics when it comes to hardships blue collar workers have experienced have been instrumental in improving their lives.

The Duck Walk is all Chuck Berry's. If you follow space exploration much, NASA sent a space ship out, in the 80s, called Voyager. It sent a lot of pictures back, as it went by planets. Several years ago, it left our Solar System. NASA put on board, a record player, and a 45rpm of this song, in case anyone ever finds it.

Bruce and the E-Street Band with their original lineup at the height of their fame and creativity and looking at Chuck Berry like they were just born. Wild!!!

Chuck Berry is the "Father of Rock n Roll" He is the one that crowned Elvis as the King of Rock. Told Elvis, you're the King, just remember, I'm the "Father" and James Brown is the "Godfather ". You take good care of it." It was some old rockers autobiography I read 30 some years ago. It's called the "Duck Walk" He was also a major inspiration to John Lennon and the rest of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.

He was a great hero for the Beatles, Jimmy Hendrix,Eric Clapton, Keith Richards and so so many more 😊

I had the great pleasure of seeing Chuck three times over the years. Always a fun, fun, time. Chuck IS rock and roll.

Growing up in the 60's and 70's we heard Chuck on the radio all the time, we would dance to his music, several others covered Johnny B Goode, but Chuck was the best. This video was recorded at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where Chuck was being inducted. Glad you played it.

You have to check out Bruce Springsteen and the legendary E Street Band. I have seen them in concert 20+ times starting with The River tour in the early 80’s. The Boss has been playing with the E Street Band since the 1970’s. He is a storyteller. Some of my favorites are Incident on 57th Street, Meeting Across the River, Jungleland, Night, Tenth Avenue Freeze Out, The River, My Hometown, Thunder Road. I was lucky enough to be at his longest US concert in 2016 when he was 66 that was 4 hours and 4 minutes long. I have tickets for both concerts when he returns to Philly in August 2024 (they were postponed 2 weeks ago). One of my favorite quotes from The Boss: “I spent most of my life as a musician measuring the distance between the American dream and American reality.”

What makes this extra special It's for years Chuck's manager would have local musicians ready that could play basic chords. Chuck would drive into town, meet them right before the gig and then never see them again. He was so good with his guitar, and patient that it always went smooth. No he was so good with that guitar he could have done it alone. Well...one of those high school kids in one of those gigs was the Boss himself, Bruce Springsteen! Talked about full circle. The whole album "The London Chuck Berry S I don't know how to get out of it essions" Is fantastic. I've been using "London Berry Blues" as my ringtone since mobile phones came out. I have never got sick of that album, and honestly I don't think my neighbors did either, just maybe my choice of times, lol.

Chuck set the future of all guitar players they learned from him

Some experts claim that the first notes of what we now call rock and roll were played in the late 1930's by the Maddox Bothers and Sister Rose. They started playing what they called Hillbilly Boogie that was later called Rock-a-billy and morphed into rock and roll. Fred Maddox's base is in a museum credited as playing the very first notes of RnR. His playing style was then known as doghouse slap boogie. They're often credited as a country group but that's where part of rock came from.

Chuck was so huge that he toured by himself and hired a pickup band to back him up because EVERY musician played Chuck Berry.

In 1977,I think it was,I saw Chuck opening up for Grand Funk Railroad and Black Oak Arkansas,playing at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City. It was one of the best shows I'd ever been to.

I saw Chuck Berry years ago, probably between 1974-1979, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Even then he was the OG of Rock and everyone that played rock & roll played a number of his songs. It was a given and it was so much so, that he traveled for a number of years without a band. He'd have his manager hire the best local rock & roll band in each town to play with him. They were thrilled, of course, getting to play with a legend and they got paid too and also Chuck didn't have to travel with a band, get them all hotel rooms, have a big bus or all that goes with touring with a band. He just had to get himself there and everyone else was waiting for him. It was so fun to see him and they played all his classics.

I've been appreciating all the comments. I actually unexpectedly met and chatted with Chuck back in the 80s and always treasured that memory, as well as seeing him play in clubs in St. Louis. But there were a lot of facts about him I didn't know until now.

First inductee into Hall of Fame and he was called the Father of Rock’n Roll. Springsteen is top notch, someone you should really check out - love Dancing in the Dark!

He was also one of the hardest working musicians you'll ever see. Chuck, Elvis, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis.. Those guys are why we have rock and roll.

You can’t understate Chuck Berry’s contribution to rock and roll music. He put the guitar at the forefront and taught us the “rock” sound. Not only that, he had great moves on stage, using the guitar as a prop. However, what some people don’t realize is that he was rock’s first true lyricist-his lyrics were poetry. When other artists were singing verses like “you ain’t nothing but a hound dog” and “rock around the clock,” he was telling stories, painting vivid images with concise but powerful language. Without him, I can’t imagine Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, or any of rock’s great songwriters. There may not be a single originator of rock and roll, but he may well have been the most influential.

My cousin is former army and I heard a story about to first time he had to draw his weapon. He was only logistical and his convoy was hit by an IED. My cousin was the only one that could draw his weapon and all he had was a pistol.

Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen is the best eve!!! Been to 8 of his concerts and never saw anything better! Wrote all of his songs, pulled in some of the hugest crowds in Rock 'N Roll history. He's still going today and just as good. Check out Born To Run, Glory Days and my favorite, Dancing In the Dark.

I saw and met Chuck Berry in January 2007 at a concert in Germany ... glad I went there! I still have his autograph I got when I brought him and his band to his train. Pretty fun! If you want a smile on your face, give his song "My-Ding-A-Ling" (long live version) a chance. It's great entertaining!

I am a Springsteen fan. There is a lot of songs you could check out for Springsteen, One of my favorites is Rosalita ( come out tonight). His earliest album is Greetings from Asbury Park. Nebraska is a hauntingly good album. If you want to check oit his classic tunes, the songs to check out would be Born to Run, Thunder Road, 10th Ave. Freeze Out, Darkness on the edge of town. Hungry Heart, Spirit of the Night ( also covered by Manford Mann).

This is the first song my brother ever learned to play and would sing it with the band he had in highschool (mid 80s). Everywhere they played the crowd wouldn't let them stop until he did this song.

Another clever thing about "Back the Future" -- You'll recall that Michael J. Fox tells the band "Watch me for the changes and try to keep up." Chuck Berry was notorious for being the kind of band leader who you had to follow very carefully (partly because when he toured, he often played with a different band every night with no rehearsals). You'll notice that Bruce and the band rarely take their eyes off of Chuck Berry. And yes, you SHOULD immerse yourself in Springsteen. For the ultimate in Bruce anthems, try "Born to Run" or "Thunder Road" or Badlands". For devastating song writing, try "The River" or "Ghost of Tom Joad" and for sheer energy and exuberance of live performance, try "Rosalita" Enjoy!

My dad in the mid 1970's popped in a VHS recording of The Ed Sullivan Show with a young Chuck Berry doing Jonny B Good... my dad sat down, called me in 2 the den, put me on his knee, hit the play button on the remote control 4 the Beta VCR 😄😂🤣😁😆 & told me that this is Chuck Berry, The Godfather Of Rock & Roll & didn't say another word... my dad told that Chuck Berry brought the electric guitar 🎸 2 the front of the stage in stead of b-ing off 2 the side & just hanging out with the rest of the instruments... after watching Chuck do his thing, my dad said 2 me, now let me see what u got , let me see what u can do... my dad started the video over & I did my best imatation of that world famous " Chicken Walk " that he does while playing this song & acting like I was playing the guitar 🎸 like Chuck Berry & doin' that Chicken 🐔 Walk 😆😁🤣😂😄😅 my dad couldn't stop laughing at me doin' that Chicken Walk & playing my air guitar 🎸 😅😄😂🤣😁😆 after that 1st time of me hearing Jonny B Good , every time that I heard my dad play Jonny B Good I come running in the room playing my air guitar 🎸 & I would do that Chicken 🐔 Walk 😆😁😂😂😄😅 my dad passed away in May of 1999 from cancer & I would put on Jonny B Good & watch my dad liven up & still laugh hard at me playing my air guitar 🎸 & doin' that " Chicken 🐔 Walk " 😅😄😂😁😆🤣 RIP 🙏 Dad I luv & miss u sooooo much 💙🫂💙🫂💙🫂

Chuck walked on water, and the look on Springsteen's face confirms it. One of the greatest moments of my life was dancing on stage with Chuck in Seattle in 1989 at a sold out show of 5,000 people with a few other audience members while he played Johnny B Goode while doing the duckwalk around all of us.

He played great, simple music. Late in his career, he'd book a concert somewhere, take a flight, rent a car, drive himself to the venue, arrive maybe 20 minutes before his performance, meet the band and tell them to follow him, play his set, drive his rented car back to the airport, and fly home. Simple greatness.

I've been to a lot of rock concerts over the years. Still my favorite was a free show that Chuck Berry did at a street festival in Columbus Ohio in the late eighties. Since it was free, I wasn't really expecting much from him. But he ROCKED. Played for about an hour, all his hits. Me and a few thousand other people were standing in the streets that evening, singing along with every song. His backup band was a local group hired just for that day - -thats the way he rolled. Check out his appearance on the Tonight Show on youtube - -Johnny Carson was obviuosly impressed by him

Just getting into this? loving how little so many younger people don’t know the history of the music industry I was born in 1960 to a young mother force fed the music of that era then the 70’s 80’s & 90’s music looked back into the 50’s music? My children would complain at being forced to listen to what they nicknamed radio old git! Now they are grown they appreciate and listen to things from my youth! Take some advice from an old guy take time to check out other hits from the artists you are recommended to look at any advice find me out I will happily oblige lol 😂
