When you consider they were huge in the 70s and this was from the 90s it shows how timeless their music was. She lives on as the ultimate rock chick in the hearts of so many of us. RIP Chrissy.
It was later used as a public service message for women to do a breast self-exam to check for breast cancer. Sadly she developed MS and later Breast Cancer. Her MS meant she couldn't do conventional cancer treatments and she died at 33 years old. Her family used the song to spread awareness.
Wow, I knew that she'd died but I didn't realize that it was from Cancer and that she also had been diagnosed with MS and that conventional treatments were useless, and that she'd died so young too
Didn't know! Gosh, stinking cancer! My mother is a 3X survivor of breast cancer & several maternal cousins have fought it. A younger cousin was in her early 30s & had a double mastectomy to get rid of hers. I didn't know whether to like your PSA or dislike it because it's sad news.
It's a shame that so many people think the Divinyls were just one-hit wonders and only remember them for this. They had several great albums full of some of the best rock music ever made. You might want to check out the banging original video for "Boys In Town" to get a better idea of what they were all about.
The Divinyls are one of the most underrated bands in Aussie rock history. Their song compositon and musical ability is absolutely top shelf. And Chrissie Amphlett - no words can really do her justice. She was the supreme female lead singer. Her voice was fantastic, and her ability to convey emotion was unmatched. Idol and The Voice wannabes take note! (Wailing at the top of your lungs is not singing). Shawn and Mel - you should dive into some of their other material. All of their album, Desperate, is a good start. Peace out!
This video was banned by MTV in the USA when it first came out, because it was considered far too racy for American audiences. Chrissy was an absolute legend in Australia . One of the truly great Rock Chick's
Great reaction! And as "spicy" as the song is, I just realized it's actually got a very positive message. She's preaching monogamy. Like she said "I don't want anybody else" She ain't sayin that for just anybody.
A great Aussie band with the lovely Chrissie Amphlett who was always a little provocative with her songs and we all loved it, especially in a live gig. RIP Chrissie 😇😇
I love whenever Shawn hears something a little naughty or sassy in a song he sort of twists and leans in or leans back with his mouth open and a slight smile of shock. It cracks me up! I love you guys and all your videos!
I saw them in concert in Lismore Australia with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and an idiot from far at the back of the crowd threw a full can of beer hittin Chrissie in the forehead, cutting her and making her bleed, and the band left the stage. 15 min later they came back and she said "I'm not letting an idiot ruin your night" and they kicked on. I don't know what security did to the guy who threw the can but I'm sure he was hurting more than Chrissie was.
Saw them live so many times in the early 80's. This is their biggest hit but far from their best. Made for the US market they tidied Chrissie up but us Aussies loved her raw. For her best check out Boys in town, Siren, Pleasure and pain
I saw the Divinyls perform a few times in the 80's. Chrissy used to always wear a school uniform on stage. You can see her in one towards the end of this clip. They had some big hits and I still have some of their albums that my son wants to take but I refuse to let them go. RIP Chrissy.
The first time I heard this I was working as a temp file clerk downtown. Mortgage company. I was all alone at 8 - 9 o'clock at night busting my butt in the file room that took up most of that floor. Did I dance, did I shimmy, did I shake my money maker? Yes, yes, and yes. I had to. This was the flat-out sexiest song I'd ever heard on the radio by far. Put a pep in my step that night for sure.
R.I.P. Chrissy, gone to soon...A talented Australian rock band, This was Australian #1 single and #4 in American Charts. Many werent ready for a women to be so forward, she is def a part of grl power. Thanx so much, take care, Peace
Showed on MTV in Canada and used by many of us high school boys as a tool to seek out willing parties to our momentary desires. Used to play this on high school dates to see if they would follow the lyrics. Many thanks to the Divinyls, for the great memories I get to relive in my old age! And thanks for the great reaction❤
I saw the Divinyls live in concert and was lucky enough to meet Chrissy Amphlett, she was an amazing performer. Now you need to listen to Pleasure & Pain and learn what it is referring to. Oh Chrissy was certainly the one.. RIP Chrissy
Hard to believe this song is over 30yrs old. Yep, the Aussies taught all todays artists how it’s done. Chrissy is a legend in Australia. You’d like Pleasure and Pain too, but the Divinyls live are something else.
Chrissy was amazing! She made me spill more seed than Mohammed Ali at a bird feeder back in the teenage years! Some other great Divinyls songs include "I'm jealous", "Boys In Town" and "Pleasure & Pain".
Everyone heard this in the nineties. I just never actually knew who sang it. Hehe. She was left speechless for most of the video. That's a good thing 👍
You like the video? Shoulda seen her live, on stage, with 10,000 fans going off! A truly great Rock Chick. They used this song for a breast cancer awareness campaign after she passed away with the disease in2013. RIP, Chrisie.
When the Divinyls were in their prime, almost every Australian teenage boy had a picture of Chrissy stuck up behind their bedroom door or hidden in a drawer. If you can look past Chrissy, they were a brilliant band too.
