He doeshave weaknessesbt they're not worrying, his low catch and shoot threes due to not being able to shoot when he's not in rythm ( compare that to his 40% on pull up threes which shows he can shoot) and his high turnover rate, for every great pass that makes it in highlights there's a turnover for it, but that will get better with time and spacing

The most crazy part of Wemby's stats that wasn't even mentioned... He's been on a minutes restriction. This isn't even Wemby going all out.
@nikkolawson7189
@nikkolawson7189 2 месяца назад
And on a garbage team that refuses to pass him the ball half the time.
@ArturoSubutex
@ArturoSubutex 2 месяца назад
That's true, but it's not just a minute restriction thing. His ppg actually went UP when he was on a 25-minute restriction (to 25 ppg, so about 1 point per minute!). It seems to suggest that 25-ish minutes a game is his ideal playing time for now, where he can give it all without worrying of running out of gas. He clearly can't play 35 minutes a game several times a week just yet (and the Spurs wouldn't let him anyway, for obvious reasons). To me, that's the last question mark left about Wemby: will he eventually be able to play 35 minutes a game consistently without getting injured, and if yes, when?
@SaidinRage
@SaidinRage 2 месяца назад
@@ArturoSubutex It doesn't necessarily mean that he *needs* the minute restriction. I think his points went up because he's actually getting better. His 3 is falling more, especially pull ups and his overall shot selection is better also.
@ArturoSubutex
@ArturoSubutex 2 месяца назад
@@SaidinRage But his ppg went back down to the low twenties when he got more minutes. For instance, after the game against Portland in late January, he had an average of 25 points in 26 minutes, ie almost 35 points per 36 minutes over the last 10 games. Over the 10 games after that, his minutes rose to 28 per game, but his points fell to 21 (26 points per 36 min). Right now he's at 30 minutes and 23 points (28 points per 36 min) over the last 10 games. Same goes if you look at 15-game stretches. Normally we should expect a sophomore to turn his best rookie stretches into his norm over 35-ish minutes, but for Wemby there might be a small health caveat attached to that. That being said, his rebounding pattern follows his minutes more closely, and all his other stats are improving consistently over the whole season, regardless of minutes played. And he's becoming a more and more efficient shooter as well.
@Ebriel0000000
@Ebriel0000000 16 дней назад
@@ArturoSubutex Well the last month gave the answer : he can *now*. Pop restrained him and he was right to do so, but next season Wemby's minutes will increase by 5 or 6. Sure he won't play 40+ but if Spurs get a backup center who's better than Collins, it will be ok.

I cannot even cap, I liked him before the season, but what he's doing on the court is unbelievable, especially with his minutes restrictions, and have you seen that he's not looking as slender man as he did when he got drafted. I've been nicknaming him spider man, but I'm not sure I'm going to be able to keep that up in another year or so's time. He's genuinely becoming one of my favorite players, like the "I'll watch a Spurs game just to see what he's up to and I'm an F1 fan who lives in Boston, catching a Spurs game is not easy, especially if it's on a race weekend, but I'll still try it.

In the 30-ish games since they switched him from PF to C and stopped playing Sochan at PG in mid-December, Wemby has averaged per 36 numbers of: 29.3 PTS (would be 5th in the NBA) on 49.2% FG 12.7 REB (would be 3rd) 5.2 AST (35th) 1.7 STL (6th) 4.8 BLK (by far 1st) with just 2.4 PF 7.1 FTA (7th) 36.4% on 6.7 3PA!!! And 39% in his last 20 games Especially impressive that he has elite numbers in all the things rookies are usually bad at: efficiency, not fouling on defense, getting to the line, positive AST:TO ratio That's as a rookie, with terrible spacing and no elite PG to set him up. If the Spurs invest in a good PG and putting shooters around Wemby this offseason, and he gets his minutes up to 34 mpg or so, even without accounting for how much he might improve in the offseason based on his current level he could realistically average something like 32-13-5-2-5 on 50-38-85 shooting, which sounds insane but I might even be underselling it
@Ebriel0000000
@Ebriel0000000 16 дней назад
Yes : the Sochan experiment was a mess and Wemby's ratings suffered from this early team struggle. The lottery will tell us which pick Spurs get... then if they can draft a good big man and a perimeter shooter, they just need to add a vet PG and they will be a play-off team next season. With more space and a good lead, Wemby will kill it all.

I think the NBA needs an overseas player to be the face of the league nowadays, basketball is getting bigger and bigger Being from the UK where basketball isn’t very popular, when I got into the sport people heard about Lebron and Jordan but it wasn’t for their greatness, Jordan is known for his brand over here and Lebron is known for his memes. Over here I don’t hear anyone really talk much basketball because football/soccer is the clear more popular sport. People knew about wemby before he joined the league over here and that is crazy for me to hear because no one was ever like this for Andrew Wiggins, Ben Simmons or Zion Williamson (I’m too young to have heard about Lebron beforehand) wemby would be the perfect face for the league from a popularity standpoint and especially with more overseas players dominating the NBA nowadays

Wemby is a superhero basically, he's a cut above almost everyone out there most of the time. What he will be in the future is scary to imagine. I see him as a Wilt Chamberlain 2.0, trading strength for length. The agility and finesse he has at that size? Unheard of. But he's also much more robust than he looks. If he gets his body injury resistant enough, as we know it's a big focus of his preparation, he will have for sure a hall of fame career. Best ever? That's a big ask, but I do believe he will dominate games like nobody before him, we see the genesis of that already.
