Thank you for watching! Where do you rank Wemby after his first year of his career? Edit: I appreciate all the feedback. I have a lisp so my n doesn’t always come out clearly. Will work on it. Sorry for the mispronunciation. 🙏🏾
He seriously has GOAT potential. Get this guy some vets and a good PG and i see 4+ rings and multiple DPOYS in his future. Great video definitely subbing.
Dude, you GET it. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 Love the minutes stats that place Wemby @ 49 points. And the Spurs players are 100% sleeper cells, waiting for Wemby to arrive so they could shake off their camouflage. And it’s Popp who set that all up. Brilliant.
As a chesnaysiens french like him I'm so proud !! Born in the same hospital and went to the same primary school I really can relate to some part of his life. He will be a Legend of his sport one day I have no doubt !
His attitude is trash. Dude has a huge ego on the court in his first season on a 20-60 team. I can't even imagine what will happen once he's on a strong team... Dude will be obnoxious.
This I think is the biggest point. Technically a block can be retrieved by the offence. A caught block cannot. Wemby out there redefining what a stock means lmao.
No. You guys just don’t understand their logic. A blocked shot that is recovered is counted as a rebound. Think about it. It is a shot that missed, but rather than gathering it off the rim, you’re gathering it off a block. So it’s still a shot attempt that was missed and is collected by a player which counts as a rebound. You can’t have a steal and a block at the same time. Either the player was attempting a shot, or attempting a pass. A steal is a deflection of a pass attempt. And block is a deflection of a shot attempt. What follows after a missed shot attempt in the game is called a rebound. So a block recovered by a player, counts as a rebound. It cannot count as a steal as it was a shot attempt that missed and then recovered.
@@Trevdawg48There is a very logical reason. When I throw a ball up. I’m either doing it to pass or to shoot. When you intercept a pass it’s a steal. When you intercept a shot, it’s a block. So how can both happen at the same time? You either shoot, or you pass. And when one gets deflected, we have a separated category for either. So how can both happen at the same time? I mean we even call shooting fouls a continuation because it was a continuation of you attempting to shoot. When you get fouled throwing the ball to a teammate. Do they give you a shooting foul? No. It’s a side out of bounds. Because a pass is different than a shot.
Great video man, keep it up! Just wanted to add a little about Wemby's health concerns. He really cares and wants to be great, so for a while now, he has been really taking care of his health and more specifically his flexibility. He has been taking a lot of measures to keep his body injury free. There are a lot of videos of him doing the splits and doing stretching warm ups before games. He's also bulking up carefully as to not put too much weight on his body too quickly.
Great video! The fast break part was hilarious. I noticed when Jokic played Wemby in their last game, Jokic was putting more arc on the shot when Wemby was guarding him. Jokic went off in that game, but it's crazy that he makes you have to adapt to him so much.
Captivating content. You bring new perspective on the phenom, concise, clear, efficient. I just subscribed and wish you the best with your channel. Australian Wemby fan.
I'm glad I came across your channel, really enjoy your input on this video and quickly hit the sub. I just hope this kid can stay healthy I really do because like you said the numbers he is pulling with the amount of time he is playing is truly amazing and I'm confident if he stays healthy throughout his career we're looking at potentially the greatest player of all time. He is so much fun to watch. Keep up the good work.
And now add his Mindset, he’s coachable, competitive, and has a crazy work ethic. Perfectly prepared from his Mother and Father. His mother played professional basketball herself and after her active career she started coaching. His father was also a professional Athlete, showed up for his national team. I’m not sure, but I think he was a runner or something familiar. If Wemby stays healthy, we might see the first one to really challenge MJ.
his father, Félix (2.01 meters), originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, is a long jumper and triple jumper (respective records at 7.41 meters and 15.56 meters)
Damn fine video! You should be proud of your video production and speaking skills! You are killing it! And great take on Wemby! Keep up the great work!
Your video was absolutely wonderful! Your enthusiasm and excitement had me pulled in. My hubby is big on basketball. He told me this was the one video I had to see, if I wanted to know how great Wimby is. He knows me well, I’d only watch if it was a great/epic video. Well done. You just got a subscriber and gave me something else to connect with my hubby. 😊
I keep saying he's the best rookie since David Robinson. This graph backed me up too. Robinson's rookie year he took the spurs from 20 wins to 56 wins. Think about that! Robinson also retired with the greatest +/- in league history. The admiral is right there with Shaq and Hakeem as the best big men ever. I actually think Wemby has more talent than any of them!
Duncan did great for sure. He had Robinson in his rookie year to guide him which helped his progress but may have hindered his stats. Robinson dominated alone and led the team from his rookie year, then happily took a step back for Duncan. The 3 Spurs bigmen have all had legendary rookie years, but Robinson has better rookie stats than anyone has in over 50 years. And his comeback from injury is the biggest reason Spurs equaled Robinson's 36 game turnaround, which was the record. So really, Robinson broke the single season win/loss turnaround twice. He also has better win shares and +/- than anyone. He doesn't get the credit but he's top 10 ever! Only 30 point Quadruple Double ever. 71 point game. ONLY player to have led the league in Points, Rebounds, Blocks, and won MVP, ROTY and DPOY. Spurs were a joke, now they've won more games than any team in the NBA since David's rookie season. He single handedly kick started a dynasty.
@@NJTDover yeah he does. For now. David Robinson started with Elliot who was only as good as Vassell, but Spurs have learned a lot about scouting and the draft process. They will get Wemby help by 2026
He stays healthy and they put a competent team around him and he wins some rings. He can be the 🐐 been saying it for a longtime he had goat potential since I first saw him at 15-16
the man is a 7 footer blocking everything and getting steals from outside the arc. his coordination and speed for that height is unheard of. chet comes close. these unicorns are generational and will be the face of the nba.
That was a really good video. I didnt realize that about his minutes. I do with you would have gone into more details with comparisons with the other players in the top 5 though. I think Wembe is the best
His stats on a minutes restriction are absurd! And as you mentioned, Pop lifted those restrictions for the last few games of the season and as expected Wemby's numbers all went up! His final 20 games of the season he averaged 32 minutes which is just 3 more minutes more than his season avg, but his total averages in that span were 24 ppg, 12 reb, 5 ast, 4 blks, and 1 steal. It gets even SCARIER though, his last 7 games the coaching staff really let Wemby loose and let him play on average 35 minutes a game, his averages in those games? 28 ppg, 13 reb, 6 ast, 4 blks, 1 stl
That strict 30 min comment is just not true at all. True he averages less than 30 min, but if you watched the games you would see that he does keep playing when there is a chance of winning or OT. Some game he gets way less though for varying reasons though. He was more likely to not see thirty minutes cause we were getting blown out often earlier in the year. When he got yanked that was when he was on a stricter one earlier in the year cause of his ankle, but that is no longer the case.
Haven’t seen a rookie like this that gave me chills since Jordan. Doing things on the court multiple times every night that other people simply cannot do.
Wemby dealing with the spurs rebuild is patience and only going to get better next season and so on , can’t wait to see the spurs play chess and make some moves for Wemby
I saw someone comment on another video about DPOY that the reason Gobert doesn't have as many blocks as Wemby is because guys don't even try to shoot near him (Gobert) because he is so good at defense and they don't want to challenge him. They then said that this is not the same for Wemby. I just pointed them to this clip of the Grizzlies' fast break: 3:19
Yeah, it's really comical to watch the Wemby effect, especially when he's within striking distance of the restricted area on defense. I have seen some of the best players in the league trying to score, usually two on one and sometimes even three on one and many many times they won't even try to challenge Victor. They will dribble into the paint and when they see Big Vic they immediately pass it to their teammate and as soon as he starts dribbling he either throws it to a 3rd teammate farther from the basket or dribbles the ball under the basket and back out again. It is really funny! They look like the cops on the comedy capers trying ineptly to score!
Wemby's blocks alone should get him the DPOY but his length and speed changes how teams take shots. Teams have him on their mind with every shot they take.
That was an era where players stayed 3 to 4 years in college. They were men when they arrived. On top of that the league was quite chaotic in those days while college programmes well organised. The transition was easier.
@@kesbie5390 Where did I say that it did not count? I said that the transition into the league was easier. And yes, the difference between a 19 yr old athlete and a 22 yr old is substantial.
It is UNTHINKABLE that in his first season(rookie year), we are all using a 'GOAT' language to discribe VW. Breaking records and already entering top charts with limited minutes in the court, shows what a GREAT player we are still yet to see in the near future... And mind you, he is only 20yrs old😮
Wemby is now 4th behind shaq with 40,7 (pts+rb+ast+blk+stl) but he is doing all of this in only 29' So yeah you can officialy said he is the greatest rookie of all time😮
Great video! Shaq, the greatest big-man specimen ever, seems to hate on Wembi because Shaq wasted his talent with the Lakers preferring to slack off rather than stay elite physically. Therefore he downplays Wembi saying Bolbol has already done what we're seeing from Wembi.
100% the best rookie since Tim Duncan. Beyond that, I don't think he's touching Wilt Chamberlain or Walt Bellamy, but you could put him in the conversation as a top five rookie ever given what he's done and in limited minutes. But the hype is real, his impact on both ends is incredible, and he's one of the most unique superstars we've ever seen. I think he'll break the record for most DPOY awards and likely win a couple MVP's. The Spurs need to add some 3-D wings and a pass-first PG to help him maximize his game.
Wemby should be DPOY I don't think he should get it just cuz of hype or social media popularity or highlight reels..... but I also don't think he should be denied it just cuz he's a rookie and all the old dogs and entrenched interests playing weird games in the dark are all indignant with toes getting stepped on. Frankly, just let the stats tell the story and play it clean and honest. if he wins he wins if he doesnt he doesnt there will be other years. Go by the numbers and in Vic's case all the intangibles happen to also line up with them too. I just want him to either get it, or not, for the right reasons. thats all i ask.
Since it's on defense instead of offense, you should start calling it Anti-Gravity (since he's repelling offensive players away from the rim/himself). Fits with his whole Alien theme (he's got an anti-gravity drive...)
Wendy is good, but I think the greatest rookie season of all time goes to Magic Johnson. Finals MVP as a rookie. Not only that, but he also subbed out as a center when Kareem was hurt, and played all 5 positions in that finals series.
