Every Christian who believes in facts (of which an earth that is 4-5 billion years and evolution are a part) is still standing for the 'true authority of Biblical word of God'. I believe that the theological teachings of the Bible are inerrant, but I don't think that God only used the genre of history. He used other genres as well and it is intuitively obvious that Genesis 1 is poetic--why did the majority of church fathers believe this if it is so blatantly wrong? Seriously, Justin Martyr, Theophilus of Antioch, Irenaeus, Clement of Alexandria, Origen, Cyprian, Victorinus, Lactantius, Basil the Great, Ambrose of Milan, Augustine, all said that the six-day creation is figurative, and believed the earth was young only as a purely secular assumption, not through using the Bible.

I believe in Genesis but I also that the original Hebrew word "Yom" can mean day or long period of time so I believe God made the earth in 6 long periods of time. It wasn't until day 4 that God created the earth, moon and the stars. If the moon and stars were not created until day 4 then how did we have 24-hour days before that?
@plowboy7700
@plowboy7700 Месяц назад
@@jerryjohnson9531 in your logic then, the days could have been long periods after the sun and moon were made. There was evening and there was morning. The first day. What is morning? What is evening? The word yom is used together with evening and morning and a number. God spoke and it was so. That takes away from His power by saying it took him millions of years to create. Let there be light and it was so. He created light without the sun until day 4. That is the power of the Lord. You diminish his power by inserting millions of years.

This is all good and well. The concept of saying "taking God's word and not man's" sounds good and in theory is true, however, there are many well intentional Christians who believe they are Christians who are being led by the Holy Spirit as they read scripture but come to different conclusions. They are not trying to decieve, they are truly believing they are being faithful to the text, but come to different conclusions. So, really, at the end of the day, we are either trusting another man's view of scripture (maybe a pastor, church traditon, a book author) or/and our own ability to reason. It really is a lot more complex than most think or want to admit. Many Christians believe God is leading them, and speak of personal experiences, yet contradict each other. Sure some are easy to debunk and show their error, yet others are not so easy. And if we think somene who is very well intentional can be wrong then we must also at least entertain the real possibililty we could be wrong too, regardless how much we believe or "know" we are right.

The problem with YECs like yourself is that they assume that Gen. 1:1 is the beginning. It is not. Jhn 1:1 is the _true_ beginning. It takes place before anything was created. There was only the Word and the Most High God. The angels were created first(Job. 38:7), then the physical universe(Gen. 1:1). "Christians" don't understand that Gen. 1:1 isn't the very beginning of time just because it's the first passage in the Bible.

Old Universe/ Old Earth Creation is not an abandonment of God's Word instead it syncs right up with it. Is God not Eternal, How Old is God? How old are the Angels? How old is Jesus? How old is Satan? How old is Heaven? How old is all of God's Creations? How old is the Universe? How old are the Stars? How old is all Matter? How old is the Earth? Even before the poem of Genesis 1 begins it states the Earth was Formless.. and God was hovering over the waters of the Earth.. So God made the Heavens and Earth before he made the "Earth" as we know it?.... His day is like a thousand years. But don't be so sure and put God in a Box that He can only create the world in 6 - 24 hour periods of time. God's time is not our time, nor is his day our day. The same lesson is for those who want to put a time on the end of the Earth, like dispensationalism. And there is plenty of proofs in the very Word of God. Young Earthism is becoming a religion and god of its own and that is not helpful to the Kingdom of God or the witness for Jesus.

I like such spirited support for the word of God and thank you Ken for the work that you do. However, we do have to think seriously about Genesis and stop being dogmatic about unatainable positions. 1. For example, we know that our *literal 24-hour day* is primarily determined by the rotation of the Earth on its axis. The Earth completes one full rotation in approximately 24 hours, resulting in a day-night cycle. However, the positions of the sun and the moon in the sky play important roles in defining specific time frames and creating various phenomena associated with our day. If there were no sun and moon, *our concept of a 24-hour day would not exist in the same way.* Yes, the rotation of the Earth would still occur, leading to the passage of time, but the precise measurement of a 24-hour day would lack external reference points such as *sunrise, sunset, or lunar cycles.* Our understanding and division of time into days, hours, and minutes have been influenced by the celestial bodies in our solar system, making them integral to our concept of a literal 24-hour day. Yet, *the sun and the moon* were created only on day 4 (Genesis 1:14-18)! Genesis 1:16 states: *"And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years."* So, please explain: *how, it is possible that day 1 to day 3 were literal 24-hour day, without the sun and the moon?* 2. According to Genesis 1:14, the sun and the moon were created *"for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years."* Therfore, please explain: how can we claim that *the light created on the first day (Genesis 1:2)* ALREADY divided seasons, and days, and years, but God needed to repeat the process in Genesis 1:14-18 to achieve the same purpose? Does that suggest that the first, second and third, etc.. *"days"* are literal 24-hour days just as the season, days and years signaled by the sun and the moon are? Is it not obvious for example that *"the day"* [and seasons and years] signaled by the sun and the moon in Genesis 1:14-18, is DIFFERENT from *"the light"* that God called *"Day"* and *"the first day"* in Genesis 1:5? How can one believe that all these are "literal 24-hour days? 3. Psalm 90:4 tells us: "For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night." And 2 Peter 3:8 tells us: *"But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day."* If you believe these scriptures to be as true as Genesis is, please explain to us why God would have made day 1 to 5, NECESSARILY literal 24-hour days, even though no single human was on earth? Why EXACTLY can't days 1 to 5 be *"God's days"* and therefore potentially thousands of years long(instead of literal 24-hour days)?

that would be 4.5 billion. 13.5 billion is the current estimate for the age of the observable universe. but I am skeptical, since that age just presumes that "what we can see" is all there is. I do not think so. All we are seeing is a limit of the speed of light. Only those objects within about 13.5 billion years distance, are visible since the light from those farther away simply has not gotten here yet. incidentally don't bother looking in your favorite book about this topic. Man I hate to be the only dissident in the comments section. But the concern here is sitting behind the desk in the office chair. We don’t know how old Earth is. Our timeline of scripture can be interpreted different ways. That being said, we are always called (in seminary and biblical studies) to ask a very simple question, “Does this have an impact on the identity or role of God?” So let’s ask, “If the world is 1000 years old, or if it is 1 million years old, does that have an impact on God’s identity or role?” Absolutely not! He was before we were and will be when the Earth is no more. To tell people to not listen to different ideas, which are not salvifically determinative, and to call into question a person’s role in the kingdom over it, is dangerous. That is the behavior of the Judaizers. This type of behavior is rejected throughout Pauline scripture. Sound teaching is crucial, but indicating people to be false teachers because of non- determinative ideas is out of line.

The age of the earth is not a litmus test for orthodoxy, it never has been, so no use getting worked up over the age of the earth. Apostolic teachings and the early church fathers never made a fuss over the age of the earth. If it was a big deal then it would have been addressed by Jesus, the apostles, and/or the early church. That being said, it really depends on which definition of the Hebrew word "yom" is used in Genesis. There are several different meanings to the word yom, one being a 24 hour period and another a large unquantified epoch of time. Since science dates the earth as billions of years old, then it makes sense that the proper definition for yom in Genesis would mean a large epoch of time and not a 24 hour period. Secular scientists can actually follow the scientific method and come to sound scientific conclusions on the age of the earth, you can't just disregard all secular science as pseudoscience, that's complete nonsense. So perhaps a little bit of humility is in order Ken Ham, that you're not always right. It's my understanding that modern young earth creationism grew mostly out of the 7th Day Adventists movement, which is a heretical sect of Christianity. So young earth creationism is a relatively new phenomena. As Christians we can agree to disagree on the age of the earth. There will always be disagreement on minor doctrinal issues among Christians. So what if William Lane Craig holds an old earth view, he's an orthodox follower of Jesus Christ and staunch defender of the Christian faith. But when you post a video titled, "we CANNOT trust these Christian leaders anymore", you are slandering William Lane Craig and dragging his name through the mud as if he's a heretic. Why do you Ken Ham hold William Lane Craig in contempt when not all orthodox Christians agree on the age of the earth? Is your own theology flawless on every single point of doctrine, and do you have a perfect understanding of the Bible? What matters most is a proper biblical understanding of the gospel and bringing the good news of Jesus Christ to the lost. William Lane Craig is a Disciple of Jesus Christ, doesn't that mean anything to you? Getting weighed down in peripheral matters like how old the earth is only hinders the fulfillment of the Great Comission and divides Christians, which is absolutely disgusting, but I'm sure the demons greatly enjoy it when this happens

I think one of the main reasons if not the main reason why Naturalism has become the dominant philosophy of the scientific consensus is that there have been double standards when labeling certain disciplines as science. And some of the places where there have been double standards when labeling a discipline as scientific are the fundamental principles of certain scientific disciplines such as uniformitarianism and cosmology. The problem is that the principles of uniformitarianism and cosmology are completely unfalsifiable. If it isn't falsifiable, then it isn't science and instead, it is a pseudoscience that is based on confirmation bias. Also if you or someone else believe that distant starlight supports the claim that the Earth and the universe are billions of years old, my short explanation (since my comment keeps getting deleted) is that time has been empirically proven to be relative because of the Gravitational Dilation Effect (GTDE), Stellar Redshift and Hubble's law.

All we have are books about this man and some photos that we have to assume are Darwin himself. No one today knows Darwin personally and can't verify whether the photos are true or not. We have to assume that what he wrote truly comes from him, and that others who were inspired by him wrote things about him too. I think you are wrong about the age of the earth. The Bible said God created the Heavens and the earth in the “beginning”. We don’t know when that “beginning” was. It then said: “Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.” We don’t know how long between the “beginning” and the creation of light there was. What we do know is that the counting started after the creation of light and the things mentioned on this first “day”. It goes on to say the “sun, moon and stars” will be for signs and season and days and years. So, time is then tied to the astronomical things in space, particularly the sun, moon and star. Therefore, it is safe to say the world is about 6K years (including the creation of the sun, moon, stars and the things created on the first to third day). As for the age of the earth, we don’t actually know. What we can say is that it is at least 6K years but we actually don’t know.

Actually the old universe is correct and this is wrong. Here are several reasons that the young earth is NOT correct from both a scientific standpoint and a biblical one. First, there is the law in physics of the speed of light in a vacuum. It is 186,000 mph or ~300,000,000 meters / second. While that is fast, in the vastness of space that is slow. The milky way galaxy alone is around 100,000 light years wide. A light year is the distance light can travel in a year. If the earth and all the stars were created only 6,000 years ago, most of the stars in our own galaxy we would not see yet! Most of our skies would be devoid of stars because the light that came from them when created would not have reached us yet. But it HAS. If the YEC was true then stars would just suddenly appear each night as the distance to them elapsed for the light that was streaming from them to reach the earth. That is NOT what we see! Not only that but we can see the Andromeda Galaxy even with the naked eye. That is over 2 million light years from us! The light that is reaching us now left Andromeda over 2 million years ago! So how do we see it if it was only created 6,000 years ago??? Now scripturally the proper interpretation of Genesis 1 is called the Time Gap interpretation. Genesis 1:1 is the ancient past. It isn't until Genesis 1:2 that is the current dispensation. From Genesis 1:2 till now is the 6,000 years of THIS dispensation. The time gap between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2 is going by science around 13.5 billion years! That is the creation period. THIS dispensation is the MADE period. The reason that God uses 3 words to define what He is doing in Genesis 1 is to separate what He did between creating something new from scratch and just refashioning or just maintaining something. There are three Hebrew words to define this. Bara - To create, Asah - very broad from making something from something existing to just maintaining it, and the verb "let". If you notice that Geneis only uses Bara 3 times! One in Genesis 1:1 (Original creation), Genesis 1:21 for the creation of the Tannyn / sea monster, and Genesis 1:27 for humans. That is IT. All the rest of the passages use the word Asah or just the verb let. While I do not want to take away from God that He is not actively doing things in each passage, for the most part this is NOT the original creation! Lets continue. In verse 2 the Hebrew words translated "without form and void" are the Hebrew words בּהו תּהו Tohoo Bohoo are NEVER used in a creative context! All ancient literature where this was used it represented the aftermath of a destructive event. NOT a creative one! Lets look at Jeremiah 4:23 where it was used again to see it in context. 23, I beheld the earth, and, see, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. 24, I beheld the mountains, and, see, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. 25, I beheld, and, see, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled. 26, I beheld, and, see, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger. 27, For thus has the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end. 28, For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black; because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not repent, neither will I turn back from it. The translation "without form and void" is OBVIOUSLY a poor translation to its meaning in this context and it is even my belief that this passage alludes what happened to the earth in Genesis 1:2. If you notice the earth is in EXACTLY the same condition as Genesis 1. The skies are black and covered in thick cloud cover. But also notice there are hills.. there are birds, they just fled! And what does it say about cities? They were flattened by God! So Tohoo Bohoo does not mean "without form and void". What it means is "an undistinguishable ruin". We can not tell what its original state is because it has been decimated! If you lived then and a three story house was flattened by a tornado and you described what you saw when you came back to a friend you would say it was "tohoo boohoo". All that was left was a rubble pile. The reason that lights are mentioned 2x times in Genesis 1, is not because there is a cosmic light on day 1 and then the creation of the sun, moon, and stars on day 4 but because the cloud cover is so thick you can't SEE the sun and moon UNTIL day 4. They were not created on day 4, they were created in Genesis 1:1 and it isn't until day 4 that the cloud cover has been reduced enough to see them! The allusion to them being MADE (and not created!) on day 4 is to only draw attention that they were originally created by God. What you are reading in Genesis 1 is NOT original creation but a RE-CREATION or a rebuilding of the earth after it was decimated. We are in the Halocene period of the earth. I have A LOT more evidence about this and wrote a book and did a podcast on it but this is not the place to redo all the evidence. The biggest objection that people like Ken had about this is because of the question of original sin and that if God destroyed the earth it had to be here before Adam. Mind you that objection is because the YEC places Genesis 2 and 3 after Genesis 1:2 in time. I do not agree. I think that Genesis 2 is actually LONG before Genesis 1:2 and I prove that in my podcast. Essentially you have to understand the wording of Genesis 2:2-4. There is the "created" period mentioned, and then there is the "made" period. Adam was created in the "created" period and was eating from the tree of life until his fall which brought us into the made period. Also the YEC ignore the fact that a) Adam was not the originator of sin, Satan was! John 8:44 "You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the BEGINNING, and stayed not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own: for he is a liar, and the FATHER of it." b) Not everyone or everything even had the plan of redemption. The angels do NOT have a plan of redemption. Why? Because they didn't just sin, they rebelled! They walked with God and when you walk with God and then willfully disobey him, there is not plan of redemption. Anyhow, this is already too long so some people will just not read it but it absolutely refutes the YEC interpretation of Genesis. If you want more, look up my podcast or get my book on Amazon, BN, etc. I am not here to sell them so no links to them in here. The reason I would debate anyone on this topic is because it is time now for the truth be known. No more hiding under tradition on this subject.

The Bible says, "In the Beginning God created the heavens and the earth." There is no way to tell how long ago it was, and there is no reason it matters. The ONLY thing that matters is that we know and believe that God did it, and that by His own will, power, Word, and Breath He created. He made everything ex-nihilo. We do not know how long Adam was in the garden before He created Eve. It could not have been the same day, because the text states that Adam was busy discovering the world and naming the animals. The narrative from chapter two elaborates on the creation process from the first chapter. It is clear that day six was not a normal 24 hour day, since Adam was tending the garden and naming the animals prior to Eve's creation. Genesis is not only history, it iincludes prose, poetry, and figurative language to convey the account of creation. No Christian has the right or authority to dictate what adiaphora we must believe for salvation. The gospel is simple...Jesus came to die in our place, and rose again for our forgiveness, salvation, and faith in HIM ALONE restores our communion with God. If I believe the world is 10,000,000 years old, I am still saved. Can't you all see that? You can't add these extra things to the gospel. It is not right or good to do. God bless Ken Ham and all of you, but we stand forgiven by Christ, not on your particular interpretation of the length of the Genesis days. Genesis was not written to tell us how old the world is, and the Hebrew word for “day” that was used in Genesis 1 can be used to both signify a period of time OR a 24-hour day. So how is the Bible supporting or disproving an old-earth or a new-earth perspective? It’s doing neither, and if science points to the Earth being billions of years old, why am I not inclined to believe in that? Scientific and logical evidence of the crucifixion and resurrection is the same reason I believe in Jesus and my Lord and Savior, so why can’t I use the same GOD-GIVEN reasoning to understand if the Earth is 6000 years old or billions of years old? My brother in Christ, I believe you’re misguided and that you’re making a mockery of the church. God gave us his revelation through the prophets as well as the observation of his creation. We cannot dismiss one for the other. The books of the old covenant contain a plethora of poetry and symbolism of which a literal interpretation simply isn’t tenable with modern observational science. Genesis also speaks of the firmament, as though the sky was a great dome holding back the waters of the flood. Yet it’s uncontested that we’ve been to space and we’ve found that the heavens aren’t literally like the Bible has described. So why then must we take the meaning of “days” as a literal period of twenty four hours? There’s no reason for it besides contrarian cherry picking of what our eyes can observe. Also I have to point out that this is the issue with sola scriptura. The fact that we have such a fundamental difference of the very first book of Moses shows that scriptural clarity is a lie. We must rely on apostolic tradition to interpret the word and not one bishop or pontiff has declared intelligent design as heretical or contrary to the scriptures. By asserting your position so whole heartedly as to deride such defenders of the faith as WLC, you speak with an authority beyond your station.

As a Christian I struggle with a universe that's only 7000 years old. When viewing the sky with a telescope and looking at a galaxy that's 100,000 to a million light years away, if this object was created at the same time, we should not be able to see it because the light of that object is still on the way. We should be witnessing objects suddenly coming into view at the 6000-7000 year edge of light travel. My position is simple, God is the creator and I look at the evidence of His work.

Isaiah 45:12 I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded. The bible speaks of how God stretched out the heavens. God also created Adam as a man, not a new born baby. If He made the stars in the heavens to display His glory, He would have done it in such a way that they were visible right from day 1.

God being outside time as he is, could his action that takes a day let’s say, be years in our perception of time. Maybe 13 billion years to us is 7000 to him, just had that pop up in my head. Also one thing to think about is how much did authors of the Bible truly know at the time, maybe using modern science and the Bible together can be useful at times, alot of times science can point towards the Bible more than anything. But I’m not 100 percent sure so just take my ramblings with a grain of salt lol

Don’t worry. I’ve changed my views on creationism over time. It didn’t impact my faith in a major way. God is the creator no matter if that’s billions of years away or thousands. Creationist Bible analysis lacks understanding of the style of writing in general. Look at a book lack Joshua where it says that they killed everyone and then end up fighting the same group few pages later… it’s the same kind of thing. Genesis is an old book and we should be careful in our analysis.

The reference people use to claim the 7,000 year earth is based on 2 Peter 3:8 "8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day." It's entirely possible that this was not an exact empirical declaration, but instead was figurative. The point is to indicate that God's accounting of time is not like ours, and to God something short is something incredibly long to us. Also, the Hebrew word for day is "yom" and the Greek word is "hemai" and it can mean the literal day or it can be used figuratively to define an era, space of time, period. (Don't believe me you can look it up) I personally lean towards an old earth and the creation story referencing different eras and periods, equating those to days, but I don't find it a significant deal if others believe that the earth is younger.

To portray Craig as simply "a Christian leader" is to misrepresent him and what he does. He argues on *behalf* of Christianity, targeting primarily non-Christians, and I see nothing wrong with admitting the possibility of a non-literalism in Genesis as one might do of other books in the bible. Also, I love how you just assume that because *you* haven't seen the sort of children's book Craig is claiming to have seen, that he must be either making it up, distorting what YECs believe, or trying to make your side of the issue look stupid. I'm sorry, but I find this critique to be in extremely bad faith (no pun intended).

I have a question. God created a man, not a boy, that's very clear in Genesis. The first man was created mature. He could have been the biological age of 30, but only on earth for a month. Why can't this logic apply to the rest of the world? If man was created mature, was the whole world created mature? Why can't the earth be both young and old, in a different sense? Why couldn't it be created millions of years old already, like Adam being created some number of biological years old, but chronologically only be 6-8000 years old? I want to know why it MUST be one or the other, when they can both be true in a sense without breaking the law of non-contradiction.

In the creation story in Genesis, Adam had the appearance of an older age than he was. He looked older than 1 day old. The same is true for the trees, plants and stars. My problem with a young earth being 6k years old is that יוֹם (pronounced Yom in ancient Hebrew) doesn't mean a 24 hour time period. When God called the light day and darkness night, how do you know it wasn't the 4th literal, 24 hour, "day?" So, is the concept of day solar reliant? No, Yom in ancient Hebrew meant many things. Like daytime, or an undisclosed amount of time. Such as "in the day of our Lord." by saying it means a 24 hour time period undermines the context of the scripture by imposing our modern definition of what "day" is supposed to mean. Yom, in the context of scripture, is almost always translated literally to mean "a period of time," or in more specific terms, "a plural measurement of time." aka, WE CAN'T KNOW! And to claim that we do is putting the English translations above the original scripture. Make no mistake, none of the Bible was written in English. You can't take the English words as infallible, as can be attested by multiple versions such as what Mormons use and LDS. That's why it's so important to have proper hermeneutics. More importantly, whether one or the other position on the age of the universe is believed has no impact on your salvation. However, by claiming things that no respectable scientist believes to be true, it CAN cause people who might have believed to turn away. That means taking such an unsupported (scriptually and scientifically) position can have eternal consequences, but gains nothing in terms of salvation. Logically, it is counter productive to the great commission to believe in a young earth despite its irrelivancy on a person's soul. William Craig has lead many people to Christ with his ministry. And scripture warns us not to act like you are in this video by saying things like "watch out for that guy!" or "don't listen to that Christian!" regarding something that isn't heretical. ‭‭‭‭1 Corinthians 1:10, 17 "[10] Now I urge you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree in what you say, that there be no divisions among you, and that you be united with the same understanding and the same conviction. [17] For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to evangelize - not with clever words, so that the cross of Christ will not be emptied of its effect."
