In this video I am going to review the Rugged Ranch Squirrelinator Trap, the best squirrel trap in my opinion. It’s unbelievable effective. Rugged Ranch Squirrelinator Trap: www.amazon.com...
I'm a little bit meaner ( or a lot ). AFter I catch them, I feed them corn muffin mix mixed with baking soda, make sure they've eaten some, and then just let them go while still in my backyard. They then expire in someone else's yard most of the time.
These traps, as made, do not work for hybrid grey/red squirrels or red squirrels because the material used has too large a mesh. The squirrels simply squeeze back out. You would need to attach hardware cloth onto it. Another trick is to place a piece of thick plastic or metal sheeting to cover the top and weight it down with a rock or brick. That way, they can't reach through the top to steal the bait. I use a bird seed mix that has raisens and peanuts in it. I first make a depression in the ground where the center of the trap will be and then put a smal pile of the seeds there. I then make a trail of seeds from there out through the entrance door to the outside. Once one is trapped, others will follow because they are competitive for food. I really wish they would improve these things. It would not take much to fix the flaw so they could catch and contain smaller squirrels. They also need to make the drowning pan 1 inch deeper. Some squirrels manage to stick their noses up through the top of the trap and stay alive.
Hi, thank you for taking the time to post this review. My experience wasn’t as good. I found that the young squirrels were easy to catch but after a while the “A team” moved in. These guys had been around. They would reach through the wire and hook out as much bait as they could but not go in. I then covered the trap with a finer mesh so the they would dig under the trap and get the bait from underneath. I tried covering the underneath with finer mesh but after that they just ignored the trap.
Thanks for the info! Oh these sneaky squirrels ! I bet the "A team" squirrels has many smart brains. I noticed some squirrels tried to dig under as well, but it seemed like eventually they all went in sooner or later.
I found the best way is to spread some peanut butter around the door so when they lick the peanut butter, they find out that the door can be opened. Then, I put a peach in the middle of the cage and they will come inside. This is for grey squirrels. I can catch only one at at time but that’s good enough. I caught 26 in 3 weeks and my backyard is officially free of squirrels.
@@KingdomUploader This cage works better with ground squirrels which like to congregate in a small space (like they share the same burrow on the ground). I have grey squirrels (tree squirrels) which don't congregate. If one is caught in the cage, it will scare/fight others that try to come in. I've caught a double in this cage only once.
@@axscdvfb Thanks; i too have tree squirrels. I think i'll get a Tomahawk and tie it to the deck railing and just do the one at a time thing. Thanks again for making that clear!
Thank you for sharing your squirrel catching adventure. You’re so cute, I wonder if they make a trap to catch you, I would take you to my house and release you there 😊HA HA !!
These might be good on western ground squirrels, but I live in the north east, and encounter tree squirrels. Haven't found the Squirrelinator to be helpful against them. On the other hand, I had a chipmunk problem, and got a smaller Chipmunkinator at Tractor Supply. Caught 22 chipmunks over the course of 4 to 6 weeks. One day I caught 2 chippies, and then a grey squirrel came along and found his way in. I can testify they don't "play well" together. Looking for something that'll work well with red squirrels - maybe a conibear 110.
Haven’t thought about squirrelinator would work for one type of squirrel but not the other, but makes total sense. Thanks for sharing ! 22 chipmunks , wow !
Best squirrel trap out there. Regular havahart traps will catch squirrels but birds and other animals. Don’t like traumatizing birds so I gave this trap a try. Gotta say I bought it because I thought the name was funny but its a very effective trap catching sometimes 2 at a time and it never catches anything but squirrels.
I was able to trap 7 squirrels in 3 days. I had to trap and rebait with each squirrel though because the squirrel inside would run toward the door and block entrance every time their friends came up to try to enter. I baited the trap with peanuts.
I bought a squirrelinator last year and have never caught a squirrel. Then I bought a metal tube squirrel trap this spring and have still not caught a squirrel. They are decimating my fruit trees and nut trees.
Sadly, that square black tub or basin you can opt to buy along with the trap - and correct me if I'm wrong, is designed to fill with water, set the cage in and drown the critters to death. That right??? thanks
Yes just like the people sealed in 55 gallon barrels and dropped into the bottom of lake mead recently discovered this year. HORRIBLE things these humans do.
Interesting. I could never catch more than 1 at a time. The guy inside the cage must have telegraphed all too clearly to the others to not come in. But it was quite a campaign. I live on a 1/4 acre lot in New England, with fairly thick trees. Had a looootttt of squirrels. This year I went on a mid-winter effort to get rid of them. I was told that the few weeks after Christmas is the best time, just before they breed. I caught about two dozen squirrels, one at a time. Unfortunately in my state you're not allowed to transport them for live release so I drowned them. To be honest I really didn't like that ... I never get the least bit anxious about anything, but I did with that. Something triggered me I guess. Anyhow, had to do it. The amazing thing is how utterly effective the whole thing was. The yard is now barren of squirrels. Haven't seen a single one in weeks.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I was able to catch 2 or 3 each time when I set up the cage. Maybe it’s something about bait? I used peanuts and walnuts. Or perhaps the squirrels in your place is way smarter than our species? Which is very possible 😀
Are these good for tree squirrels too which I think have going up my fruit tree? Are you still happy with it? I have a trap from HD but only caught one but he got away. So far no. My small rat cage caught 2 so far. I used peanut butter to some success. I also start with some dog food but might try sun flower seeds next. I might try to
I am not sure if it’s also good for tree squirrels, we only have ground squirrels here. Yes, I am still happy with it. This summer we had some new squirrels digging around, we used this trap again and they were gone quickly. We used some mixed seeds ( salad topping I think )
the sqirrels have been eating my birds, with squirrelinator I only catch one at a time but have caught 7 in 7 days, I use hole peanuts from fleet farm , the birds have thanked me, and the DNR told me to not relocate because they will destroy the birds there
Please stop catching squirrels and relocating them. Get a Havahart 1083 EZ set trap and dispose of them. I have sent 470 grey squirrels to squirrel heaven in about 7 years.
