We COMPLETELY Disassembled The John Deere 420C ENGINE Cylinder 2 Was BAD

The engine is out of my not so cheap anymore 1957 John Deere 420C crawler tractor. It's time to tear this engine down and see how much damage there is! The water pump still hasn't given up the fight but everything else has been stripped off and is ready to go to the machine shop. We scored big when we managed to get the #2 piston out without a press. The old tractor lost it's gas tank and battery to day as those will need repaired and replaced respectively. The antique instruments still need removed and sent out for a rebuild. This "let's get it started and drive it" tractor somehow became a complete restoration.

Common Questions:
What motorcycle do I ride? A few. Ducati 1198, Honda Fury, Honda Grom, Honda Ruckus
What do I do for a living? Make RU-vid videos and work in enterprise data storage.
Can you wheelie? No, I suck.
Are you fast? Sort of. I suck mostly though.
inWhere can I keep up with you off the bike?

Facebook: WatchJRGo (or JRGo, FB hates my branding)
Do you go to school? College, for 2 classes.
Why do you ride so dangerously? What do mean? I was doing 25.
Do you go to the track? Of course, hopefully there will be videos in the future.
Do you play video games? No, but I might stream N64 Goldeneye at some point. Twitch: WatchJRGo
Are you afraid the police will watch your videos and arrest you? Something something evidence something something warrants and due process of law

I've seen barn find cars where the motor was seized. They got it unstuck. Made it run more or less. Only to have it fail shortly later. Once the engine was torn down, it was clear it should never have been started. Heavy rust in cylinders and muck in the oil pan. Much like this engine. This one will live again.

Another good episode! For me personally you make working/rebuilding these JD's interesting, entertaining, and educational as well. I bought a 520 row crop back in 2017 in extremely good condition so there is not a whole lot to work on, but that's what I wanted. Looking forward to some videos on the 60 and 70 as well. When I came across the video when you bought the three JD's is when I subscribed to your channel. Keep them coming! Thanks!

I’m glad I stumbled upon this because I have a JD model M in the barn that was my late father - inlaw’s it ran but as I soon figured out it don’t take much weather to go down that straight pipe and sit for a year and it’s stuck , I made a gentle attempt to turn it over after a fair amount of trans fluid but it was showing signs of needing a head & valve job anyway so I’m going to follow your restoration & motor rebuild and try and do the old Johnny popper some well deserved rehab . Correct me if I’m wrong but I think they share the same block with ours being a 49 or 50 ? I’m just blown away that a 18 hp two cylinder @ 800 to 1200 rpm can deliver so much effort and it seems the more you lug em down the better they like it ! I just wouldn’t want to sit in that hard seat for 10 or 12 hours but 30 min or so pulling the grandkids in the hay wagon is very rewarding , I’m guessing they like it as well ?

My MT swallowed a valve, broke a piston, bent the rod.. I had the head fixed (broke the guide), pushed the cast iron piston out the top by hand, honed the cylinder ( there was no ridge in the block.) straightened the rod, 1 NOS piston, one set of rings, and a rod bearing... I tractor pull with it- going on 20 yrs now...

@@robbyschemonia3089 Definitely remove all their pistons and rods and put their chains on backwards - that should slow down any attempts to attack you with them, lol... Hey I got a Mall 1MG with a six foot bar, helper handle and because it's a float carb the whole gearbox turns 90 degrees to cut stumps. I got a Swedish Comet chainsaw that looks like an old homelite but it has a cast iron cylinder you have to put a butane torch on to get started because it's a carbureted diesel 2-stroke. Slow, stinky, heavy - but you never have to mix gas, lol. I heard the Soviets made tens of thousands of word-for-word copies of them. I got a Homelite XL-15 which is a -12 with planetary gear reduction. And a McCulloch Mac 10-10S which had a ni-cad pack in the handle and a powerful starter motor made into the flywheel. AND a bunch of old Poulans . . .

Lucky... I'd love to see that diesel guy in action. I need to get another camera so I can upload some more antique power equipment videos here on the youtubler. I've also got a super cool 1950 sea king 5hp outboard that starts on literally the first pull. All original, except for the ignition system that's just new OE OMC "universal ignition components". The older OMC motors, Johnson, evinrude, and a whole slew of Montgomery-Wards motors from the little 2hp singles all the way up to the big 50hp outboard motors used the same coils, points, and condensers up until the 80s. Just a little factoid for ya there om that one. I've got a couple videos on my channel of it and some other outdoor power equipment on my channel right now.

@@robbyschemonia3089 My Dad's identical twin brother was Lawnboy's Chief Engineer. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MdjyBuxNkkA.html In WWII he invented the airport water cannon Crash Truck. Navy put him through the V12 program (engineering) at Rice University. Postwar he designed a 2-cycle for Propulsion Engines, Fairfax Kansas. Those were used on Roto Power Mower wooden-deck mowers. If you see a REALLY old Lawnboy it will say "RPM-LawnBoy" on it. When OMC bought RPM at first they bought Power Products engines. Those were the "A" model LB engines. My Uncle had to call PP and tell them they couldn't supply enough engines and (since OMC was 10 times bigger) they were going to clone their engines for one model year until their own design was ready. "B" model LB engines had the OMC mag and carb but otherwise were identical. The "C" engine was Uncle's design using same mag and carb but otherwise all new. Uncle designed the later D Series and also the F - but he passed on in '75 before they hit the market. Unc was also Chief Engineer for Beard, Poulan and Weedeater at time of passing. Here is comet saw starting up but they don't show the guy heating the cylinder with a blowtorch: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y6yt2DgBguo.html Here's another one running and smoking but not cutting (they are SLOW) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hXR3ZOPlRys.html Here is a real shorty vid but the guy IS heating the head: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-g_Ci4AvfaEM.html I find it odd that nobody has video of the Soviet copy of the Comet. In real life I have seen 6 or 7 of them (all cyrillic letters - can't read a word of it) but before RU-vid I'd never seen another diesel Comet. Also - today I learned that Jonsered made diesel saws - never knew that before. My favorite chainsaw isn't a chainsaw - it's an old concrete saw made by Partner with the old Partner R12 saw engine. Mine swings a 14 carbide wheel pretty d**n fast and torque-y as well. Plus I just love to hear the old thing run (Partner's Chief Engineer then was Walter Kaden of East Germany) and especially that "Old School Two Stroke Motorcycle Idle-Sound" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-46W2X40tYuQ.html There are a bunch of videos of R12s.
