Pulling The Trashed ENGINE Out Of My John Deere 420C CRAWLER

Being productive today! We started by removing all the hydraulic hoses and pulling the the old Massey-Ferguson/David front-end loader off my cheap 1957 John Deere 420C crawler tractor. Once the loader was off we had some room to work so we got right down to pulling the accessories off the engine and rigging the engine for removal. Getting the giant flywheel and clutch assembly out of the bell housing was a bit of a chore but the forklift made positioning a bit easier. You can really see the rust groove in the number 2 cylinder in this video. Next up, tearing the engine down!

Common Questions:
What motorcycle do I ride? A few. Ducati 1198, Honda Fury, Honda Grom, Honda Ruckus
What do I do for a living? Make RU-vid videos and work in enterprise data storage.
Can you wheelie? No, I suck.
Are you fast? Sort of. I suck mostly though.
inWhere can I keep up with you off the bike?
Instagram: WatchJRGo
Facebook: WatchJRGo (or JRGo, FB hates my branding)
Do you go to school? College, for 2 classes.
Why do you ride so dangerously? What do mean? I was doing 25.
Do you go to the track? Of course, hopefully there will be videos in the future.
Do you play video games? No, but I might stream N64 Goldeneye at some point. Twitch: WatchJRGo
Are you afraid the police will watch your videos and arrest you? Something something evidence something something warrants and due process of law

There used to be dealers for old used JD parts around the country, also JD had a pretty good stock of parts for the old tractors and there were a couple of tractor salvage yards. I worked in John Deere parts for 16 years and used to get older stuff from all over the country.
@WatchJRGo
@WatchJRGo 5 лет назад
You can still get most parts you need like gaskets from JD easily, hard parts are a bit more scarce. We found a piston kit for this but I think it's from a 3rd party. 🍻

Can't wait to see the actual engine tear down happen. Hope you don't have to sleeve it but it's not the end of the world if you have to. I've seen that done on small block chevy engines before although that's far less common these days as there are SO many used blocks out there that it's less trouble to start out with a new block unless doing a numbers matching restoration. Unfortunately I doubt there are a lot of 420c crawler donor engines around.

As for over size pistons, I used .090" but I did not have the groove in the cylinder walls like you have. Take your time and do it right and it will last for years to come. @@watchjaredwork1487 I said an inch *or two*. I've done plenty of out-door work, and two inches is sufficient for most any conditions, but honestly, up to 4 inches is acceptable while travelling. To add... In Canada, it's actually the law that you travel with the minimum required load-height at all times. If something happens and they find that you weren't following the rules, you're fucked. Maybe where you're from it's different, but where I'm from, work-place accidents are treated like crime scenes.

Like Jared said we are driving it over terrain that rapidly varies multiple feet. It is right at the minimum required to not drag the load. 🍻 I understand you can do it better but we are actually doing it and watching the tracks scrap the ground.
