We couldn't eat in Nis, Serbia. So, please do not hate us for eating this on our first day back in Serbia.
We arrived on a Friday afternoon in Belgrade, rented a car, and traveled to Nis Serbia 2021. Our Airbnb in Nis was fantastic, perfect apartment for our stay. We really wanted to eat traditional Serbian food but it seems Nis is very popular on Fridays... so instead... watch until the end.

maybe the waiter had bad day lol.. got that kind of experience here too especially for famous places- no reservation no seat hahaa.. and you know we're last minute kind of people so we just google to go somewhere else haha

hahaha yes! The only thing is Nis is very small compared to Sydney. But it was probably a matter of looks or some of that sort. It has only happened once to us here in Serbia, so we know it is not a common thing 😊

Nala crossed our path in Serbia, that is the reason we are still here since the end of August. We can't travel with her just yet. We made two videos sharing the story of when we found her and rescued her and when we decided to keep her. Both stories are in Serbia.

hahaha yes! One of our Turkish friends gifted to him in the summer. He has been wearing them in a lot of videos, I had to take them away from him so he is now wearing other regular ones. hahaha

Absolutely bro, no worries. Didn't take it personally. It was just the attitude the guy had that was weird. It wasn't that friendly nature that I've come to love about Serbian people. He didn't even want to recommend a place for us to try. He just said good luck and turned his back to us. Now what are you doing out there in Las Vegas!? Lol.. how is going over there?

Yep gotta have the AC! I CANT SURVIVE WITHOUT AC..and I ask why don't we have there's types of inside machine AC....USA only have ac thats attached to the window

These are the common ones in Europe. The hanging ones from the window can't be found here. I guess installation and other stuff are the reasons for it. Agree, who can live without AC??? (Many people though survive without it)

We don't know, we just left and never returned we spent over 10 days in Niš and went to every other restaurant and kafana and avoided that one

To be honest that guy was a little rude to you guys. Normally nobody is rude. And the thing he said ,,Well its friday in Niš,, means that due to the guide lines theres really not that much time for being opet and not much room too.Becouse as you could see Niš is not really the biggest town and theres not much restourants and thats why almost always since Covid started you need to make a reservation becouse a lot of people were coming to restourants without a reservation and it let to a big growth in positive covid cases .And those opened tables that you saw were either making a distance between other tables or were resirvated . Please dont bother about that and dont take it for real becouse he wasnt trying to be mean and he was just scared that somebody would have made a complaint about how that restourantb lets sertain people in without a reservation. I hope that you come again becouse you are welcome in any time.

We understand the logistics, no worries. I think it was more the way he said it vs. what he said. We understand all that but he didn't have to say "better luck tomorrow" "there's no place I can recommend" Because we told him we just wanted something, it didnt matter what. If we were locals, we would know where to go, but we weren't upset or bothered. That is why it became the joke of the month hahahaha. And agree, no one has ever been rude to us here in Serbia. That is why we love it so much!

Google maps to see the live results are not accurate..sorry to say...since our tea shop inside says we're super busy at one point and we were super slow...lol

We understand that, that's why when we were able to peak inside and see no one we knew google maps wasn't as inaccurate as it can be in some places. Also, Nis is a city with 186,000 inhabitants. It is not Chicago size. But we understand where you are coming from.

First and only time we experienced this in Serbia. But what we know is that in the kafanas, they have live music on weekends so they can get pretty packed.

Some people still hold the grudge toward Americans for US getting involved in Yugo civil war on the side of Muslims and Catholics. That's getting illegally involved in the internal affairs of the former Yugoslavia and making Serbian enemies prevail in the war. This resulted in Serbia losing it's original founding region of Kosovo from the 7th century onward.

It's because of the new Covid pass law I think he didn't let you in. It's easier for restaurants to close early than to get fined if some of the guests don't have the pass and get caught by inspection or the police.

This was in August before the 10 pm and the 8 pm new COVID-19 law was in place. But it's ok! We were able to eat something that night, even though it wasn't our Serbian cravings 😊 thanks for trying to find a logic to it.

@@mariaandbryan I know. It's the same in Belgrade here. They didn't let anyone in after 8 PM. I'm just disappointed that he didn't tell you the reason and was so rude. I would give him a parent slap to teach him some manners. 🤣

New Zealand is pretty quiet depending where you are on a Friday night too so I understand :) Your Airbnb is lovely guys! small compact but with everything you need. Perfect

Yes, the Airbnb was perfect and at a great price $25 USD per night. Love it! We still don't know and really think it was a one off answer. Never had that happening to us here is Serbia. We just thought it was quite funny. Thanks guys for watching!

That's quite a bizarre experience you guys had on a Friday night where the restaurants have very few people inside! Did you ask around locals what could be the reason? Good thing is you had awesome Chinese food! haha I wouldn't complain much as long as the food is delicious. starving is not an option LOL

We ask locals later on. They say it was strange, but in any case, it could have been because they had live music later on that night, or because they thought we wanted to stay for many hours and they were going to be busy later. We just needed to eat something as it was a travel day and we didn't eat anything. Yes, no complains about that delicious Chinese food, we actually went back 3 other nights to the Chinese restaurant. It was good!

Sorry you had an unpleasant experience. For what it's worth, we had the same problem visiting a few weeks ago. There's many kafanas that have live music where people go to party. Those places are usually booked a week in advance (or more for the good ones), and the party lasts all night. So it isn't impossible that what they told you was the truth, and what they understood was that you were asking for a 'party kafana' experience. It's possible that they were just rude / racist / ... but it is also possible that there was a misunderstanding. Also, the 'not busy' on google maps wouldn't mean a lot, cause people arrive late and stay long, so they have to keep the seats.

We never thought they were rude or racist. In a full year we lived in Serbia, we never experienced any of that. It was just very interesting and actually funny. We understand the party kafana and know how packed they get. We just wanted something quick to eat but it doesnt matter, we diint take it as a bad experience at all, just an experience from a different point of view. Thank you!
