Just hit all these plus some Titleist and Callaway Irons and the 921 forged irons were by far the best, feel wise and numbers wise.

I’ve just ordered a set of the Forged. H’cap 11. They look and feel great. Custom fit with Mizuno. Also tried the Hot Metal Pro but with the increased offset I hit the ball consistently left. Went back to the Forged and they straightened up immediately (so it really was the club, not me !!). We spent most of the time on the shafts which often gets overlooked but is just as important - I was staggered at the differences. Can’t wait for the clubs to be delivered.

2:20 I feel that the most difference between the Hot Metal and Hot Metal Pro is that the Pro has a fair amount less offset. Nice comprehensive review, thanks.

I think the numbers for my current 919 Forged are better than the new model 921 Forged. Also prefer the looks of the previous generation.

I wont be switching, I'll stay with my 919 forged. Part of the appeal for the 919 was staying away from the super strong lofts and it seems Mizuno is going that direction too.

Yes. Forged provides “everything” including a $400 premium over HMP

Obviously you are not a golfer who cares about feel? There’s a hell of a difference in cast and forged, forged sounds better which equals feel and also looks better IMO. If your a high handicap golfer like you obviously are I would go cast. I get my lies and lofts adjusted yearly, try that with some cast clubs. You need to look at the whole picture and not get a opinionated view from me him or anyone. How can you say in any confidence after a video alone you will buy one over another solely on a individual opinion?

@@andrewkmac3507 You do realize sound is feel? Feel is everything with a decent, let alone good or great golfer! What’s your handicap if you don’t mind me asking? I dont think your a very experienced golfer by your comment. Good golfers are very sensitive to sound which equals feel. Maybe you should expand your horizons?

I really like the look of the MP 20s better than these 921s. I play the MP30s and am looking to upgrade soon and these will be tried for sure ..... Great Review Joel .

Thanks. Yep, there is definitely some crossover between certain models in the MP-20 and JPX921 ranges. I guess it's a case of trying both and seeing which one looks and performs the best for you. Joel

Great review…I don’t really care for the look of the tour, but the others look great. Going to get a fitting next week…these will definitely be in the mix…if the Tours hit well, I’d probably test them against the MP-20 MMCs before jumping on them…I love the look of the MPs entire range over the JPX.

you should test using a 5 iron then we would see how straight or not they are 7 is to easy! But not knocking you ...i have the hot metal set and they are superb ....i switched to them from MP25s after years of frustrating sensitivity of forged clubs .....they feel just as good imho and they are longer way longer!

Ive been gaming the 900 Hot Metal for 4 years and they are worn out. Love them and Was hoping Mizuno would offer the 921 in HM Pro for us lefties. 😢

RAD - No I think Chromoly performs very well but when you play as much as I do - 4 years playing 3 times a week and hitting over 100 balls practicing a week - there is bound to be damaged grooves and general wear. I’m surprised how well the faces held up and Even Mizuno would admit that the finish at the back of the club could have been more durable. This was one of there sales points when they launched the 919’s. I’ve had sets (cast) that sustained groove damage just by chattering against another club.

I think a lot of golfers would enjoy a blend of HMP, forged and tour irons but the lofts make it seemingly impossible. Suggestions welcome...

I tend to agree. The Hot Metal Pro/Forged is probably the combination that would be easiest to pull together, with some bending to create more even loft gaps. It's a shame there's such a difference between the Tour and Forged. Blending the MP-20 MMC and HMB would be easier as the lofts are the same. Joel

More loft equals more Spin, which equals more control/stopping power on the Greens and more forgiveness

Bandit Baker if you were to compare a hot metal 5 iron to a tour or forged 4 iron the lofts and spin would be similar except the hot metal more forgiving with all the other perimeter weight and high MOI. TXG live testing yesterday has got me thinking 🤔

In addition to these other replies, stronger lofts also create gapping issues, especially at the wedge-end of the bag. It may require golfers to add in an extra wedge or have to alter the entire make-up, and also take out one of the longer clubs like a hybrid to accommodate. It's one of the main reasons I'm not bothered about hitting my irons further! Joel

Golf Monthly thanks for this Joe. I hit my irons (714 AP2’s) far enough however, having hit a friends JPX 919 4 iron (20 degrees of loft so 3 iron in old money) the launch and forgiveness was amazing. I don’t love hybrids so a club like this seems to have all the benefits in the long irons but is hard to blend. Thoughts?

I have never played Mizuno‘s before but I’m highly considering purchasing a set. What are your thoughts about making a combo set out of two of the four sets of irons or three of the four sets of irons? What would you combo? I am a mid to high handicapper and love the way the Mizuno’s feel I do also like to use the hybrid as well so please keep that in mind.

Mizuno actually has a new JPX Fli Hi hybrid option to replace long irons, so would recommend combining those with either Hot Metal or Hot Metal Pro (if your misses are more to the left) in the mid and short irons. Hope this helps, good luck! Joel

Hope you bought em! I am around a 12-13 handicap and I hit these really no different than my AP1 718 game improvement irons. I like the compact look and feel of a flushed shot.

Compare your stats with a 30 year old £80 set of Pingeye 2 irons and they will fit somewhere in the middle of your results.

would like to mix Hot Metal 5 and 6 with forged 7 to PW, but the gap from HM 6 to forged 7 would be 7 degree, which is a NoGo. Can the HM be weakened, or what is your suggestion for such a mixed bag approach?

Might be too late r sponding, but yes the HM can be adjusted. I have ordered a set like you describe with the lofts adjusted for the blend as per the Mizuno website

SOMEBODY HELP! Question..The 921 Forged…Does anybody know, in regards to the CNC milling, if the back slot is milled through the sole and then forged back together? Or is it milled thru the back of the club face?

Manufacturers should really move towards putting the loft on their irons. It’s done with any other type of clubs.

So - Forged vs MP20-HMB, why one over the other and are the HMB’s worth the extra cost?? Looking at these irons next year, had almost settled on HMBs then the Forged came out looking all sexy n’all... 😁

Good question. Forged will feel a touch softer but I'd imagine the numbers will be similar. Then it comes down to the looks, price and the fact the the Forged are newer and will therefore be current for longer. Let me know which one you go for! Joel

Certainly with the Tour. The Flight Scope normalised for the weather and the hole played a little into the wind, so wasn't surprised to see the Forged come up a little short too but knew the Hot Metals would get there! Joel

I understand your frustration. Every brand is doing it (which doesn't make it right, but...) the ball flights and accompanying spin make them just as playable as the prior generation. Joel

Carry bags for the real golfers and watch Wilson and Ram golf club videos. Hell you would probably struggle just to take Mizuno clubs out someone bag, you probably find a way to mess that up

Greg Thomas I think based on what Vosh is saying it’s the best thought our lefty set they have ever built. In terms of who it’s for, I would say go hit them and see what you think. I am a right handed player and play a similar set up in the 919 F and tours and play to a 9.1 handicap so not super great but I would never give up my forged feel for anything.

I will definitely try them. With the right shafts might be playable as a 10. Still playing Mizuno MX-20’s. Nice blend of forgiveness and feel. Still look pristine. Thanks!

I think they Mizuno is missing the mark here. As a lefty I would prefer the HM pro's or Forged. Neither is available to left hand. At least the last gen gave us the Forged in LH. Not interested in the SEL at all. I refuse to buy any Mizuno equipment anymore. Not enough lefty options.
