When Maester Aemon told Sam “A Targaryen alone in the world is a terrible thing.” The camera panned to Jon entering the room. That was the major hint in S5.
@janellejulianajoy
@janellejulianajoy Год назад
There were many subtle hints. One of the biggest is the scene in the very first episode when he has to execute the young man after he abandoned the Night's Watch. When Ned says he's performing hus duty to the name of King Robert Baratheon, the camera pans over to both Bran and Jon when he recites king of the Andals and First Men. This scene also foreshadows Jon's parentage as the rightful heir. Two people no one would ever bet on; a "bastard" and a cripple.

@cassandramcbride7007
@cassandramcbride7007 Год назад
But in the context of the show, it was a big mistake. She would face a civil war in her hands. The common folks would came after her, the nobles would came after her, the religious people would came after her. She would had nobody to protect her, specially because the nobles would cut her from their armies. She would only have access to Lannister Army (if the other lords decide to support her, once they knew she killed her uncle and cousin) StormsLand would be in riot to decide who would be the next Lord, Reach would cut their food and gold supplies. Lets not forget that Tyrells, are the only nobles with the biggest army intact. Dorne does have a army intact. North is starting to unify again, against her. Only Riverlands is neutral. If this was not enough, the kingslanding folks would provoke riots after riots. So... i still want to know, how easy access Cersei become queen.

39:14 Cersei definitely *DID NOT* anticipate Tommen's death. She thought she could prevent it by protecting him. You're confusing Littlefinger with Varys -- Varys is the one who's always said he wasn't interested in the throne, that he served the realm. Littlefinger has always wanted the throne from day one -- the Stark vs. Lannister feud he manipulated through Lysa was all part of that plan.

This is my favourite episode, Margaery is the only one to clock onto something being wrong- she's spent the last couple of series just trying to get out of the Faith predicament and left the High Sparrow to deal with Cersei. In that last moment she breaks her faith act as she realises that the High Sparrow underestimated Cersei. Also the scene with Davos and Melisandre is one of my favourites, such incredible acting from both

She didn't send Jamie on a botch mission because she anticipated the Mountain fighting for her. She said it specifically to Jamie before he left for Riverrun. I'm surprised that you guys were confused about Jon's parentage, I feel like you pick up everything haha! At this point in the show, it's not a theory, so I don't think me explaining is a "spoiler," I'm just providing clarity. Robert's Rebellion started due to Lyanna's disappearance with Rhaegar (presumed to be kidnapped). Rhaegar was keeping Lyanna hidden at the Tower of Joy throughout the war (the tower seen in this season). At this point in the story when Ned goes to "save" her, the Mad King and Rhaegar are both dead. An important thing to note is that Rhaegar left two of his best Kingsguard to keep guard at the Tower of Joy with Lyanna, while Rhaegar was fighting Robert. Wouldn't you think he would keep his Kingsguard with him to fight? But he didn't so why would you think that is? To protect Lyanna and his child. It's not really fleshed out in the show, but a big point in the first book of the series during Ned's POV chapters, was his recalling Lyanna's last moments and her last words to him - "Promise me, Ned." That is shown here, along with her saying, "They will kill him and you know it." She is telling him that he has to keep Jon's identity as Rhaegar's son secret because Robert would kill him if he knew. And so, when Ned returned to Winterfell with a newborn Jon, he told everyone that he was his bastard to honor his promise to his dead sister.

What's the difference between what Cersei does to the woman who tortured and abused her and what Sansa did to the man who tortured and abused her? Cersei is not a good person but she is not the same as Joffrey and Ramsay. Her most heinous actions are not driven by being evil for evil's sake, they're driven by survival. She will do anything and everything to protect herself and hers. Jaime is the same, he killed the mad king and tried to murder Bran to protect himself and his. The difference is she's the only character who has spent the whole series playing the game of thrones, constantly on survival mode, with knives at her throat. I'm not defending Cersei's behavior, I am simply saying the character and her motivations are a lot more complex than just "she's evil". And that is why so many people enjoy her character. Morality and likability are not what automatically makes a character interesting, layered, and entertaining, of which Cersei is all three.

The answer is simple. People like Sansa (why I don't know but that's another convo) and hate Cersei so they forgive Sansa anything. Just like all of the strong Dani fans didn't see or want to except what the story was leading us to believe about her all along. If we like you we'll forgive nearly anything but if we hate you we'll find any reason to hate you more. I can understand that they didn't adapt the books 1:1, there are so many characters and twists, and when you produce a show with such a budget you need also those who don't pay attention to details and who don't remember what they ate for breakfast, so I can understand they don't have the young griff. But why have they changed the northern vassals to illoyal bannermen? Why have they ruined the genius of Prince Martell? Cersi was playing the game of thrones and won. People constantly underestimated how vengeful, ruthless and cunning she is. From Ned, to the high sparrow. Even her husband. Once they didn't kill her after she was prisoner and her walk of attonment, i thought, she is going to kill everyone. The citizens or people laughed at her, so she did not mind them as collatoral damage.

As Tywin warned Cersei 'I distrust you because you're not as smart as you think you are'. A lot of her plans, while they initially succeed, are very short sighted, like arming the faith militant. She is clever and cunning enough to come up with plans, but too self centred and impulsive to be truly smart. This episode is a great example, she played the whole trap off perfectly. In one fell swoop, she cleared out most of her imminent threats. And immediately lost her only remaining child because of it.
@deephbuh7227
@deephbuh7227 Год назад
@@184Switch She kill all her enemies in one episode. As a consequence she lost her child but she accepts it because she knew Tommen isnt't fit to reign. Now she's the queen. She did mistakes, of course, but I think she's smart enough.

@@deephbuh7227reading the books you definitely get the feeling Cersei is… not smart. She becomes paranoid that her maid is replacing her dresses with smaller dresses because she doesn’t fit in them anymore. She appoints a new master of ships because he’s pretty, and he immediately steals the fleet and goes and establishes himself as king of the stepstones.
@184Switch
@184Switch Год назад
@deephbuh7227 the biggest thing Cersei had problems with regarding Tommens reign was his deferral to Margaery, then the High Sparrow. Tommen was taught to take advice from his council, and he could have been a great ruler, even one she could have influence over if she was smarter. Cersei disliked the control his new wife was exerting, so planned to remove her. In doing so, she gave too much power to the Sparrows, pushed Tommen away even more, and eventually led to his death. She created these enemies that she needed to kill through her short-sightedness. If she was smarter, a lot of these problems would not be there in the first place, and she'd probably still have all her kids. She's smart, but not smart enough. More importantly though, she thinks she is.

I'm still shocked that they seemed to never ever not once wonder about Jon's true parentage. I know it's more obscure in the show than the books, but they were so heavy handed with it even in season 1 (at least to me, esp whenever Maester Aemon is with Jon).

I don’t understand why you guys expected Cersei to do the work. The main theme of the show is having power, and it comes in many forms, one is just to rule and order. Cersei is never a warrior or has the capability to entirely act on her own to do her biddings.

I do not think that Cercei anticipated that Tommen would die. Yes, she had those clothes on, but also the glass of wine she drank from after the Sept blew up... I think she meant to celebrate this victory of hers. Tommen... wouldn't have been a part of the plan. As to her reaction to his death, I think it sort of broke her. She no longer had anyone she cared for, thus grieving was no longer much of an option to her.

Nope. Epic episode = epic timescale. Varys' trip to Dorne and back to Meereen took many weeks followed by even more to gather the fleet. There is nowhere that Varys shows up where it would be illogical to accept that a fairly long time has passed between.
