Still at the first day in England and our friend Grant took us to this abandoned house, while walking through the house we found some more modern stuff and some older but you could tell that decay is taking over. This house was given the name "Poison House" and we wanted to know why... Watch to find out about the conclusion!

The trophies are won from a game called, crown green bowls. And the metal cover in front of the fireplace is called in england a fire guard. The metal piece you found inside the fire is known as a toasting fork. You put a slice of bread on the fork and hold it in front of a blazing coal fire. Myself and my brothers and sisters did this as children. You have found what is called a canteen of cutlery. If you take it to an auction house, they will look for hallmarks to see how much they can put a value on it.

I really liked this find. It got me to thinking about poison. I'm almost 70 and you always wonder what if you got really sick and had to go to the hospital. I don't want to end up that way. But I'll probably just keel over when it's my time. Maybe that person who lived there used the poison, but I don't think I could. Who knows? The picture of the wife on the mantle was especially poignant. Dying is the easy part, living is hard. You have to keep your curiosity up so you'll keep finding new things to live for.

I agree, the older I get the harder living is, but it's sure worth the effort.

John Allen Your comment is exactly why I support the dignity in dying campaign in the uk. If I am diagnosed with a terminal illness now or in old age, that undoubtedly means a long, drawn out, agonising death, then I would want to go peacefully on my own terms. There is no need to suffer so badly and then die anyway. Nothing is gained from that, and it is painful for ourselves and also the ones we love who have to watch. We treat our animals better than humans when it comes to terminal illnesses and old age. I hope one day we are granted the right to decide what happens to our bodies, and can rule out a lot of unnecessary suffering. But anyway, I hope you keep on finding things that give you joy in life John. Much love ❤️

The item at 9:33 that you thought may be used to grab something are actually used to curl hair. You would set them in a little heat element or on a stove to warm up. After they were the right temp you would put a strand of hair in the center and close working down the strand. Love how respectful you are about the home and previous owners. Enjoyed the video very much.

They used arsenic to do taxidermy years past. I don't know what is used now but, taxidermy always depresses me. I agree Maureno, I don't what it is about this one but it makes me sad. Thank you men for respecting the abandoned places. Love, health and luck to you.

Lady Laois I don't know if it's because I've been a nurse for forty years, or if it's because even as a child I hated zoos, hunting, anything that seemed disrespectful and intrinsically cruel to the beauty of life, but hopefully these barbaric practices will go away someday and we will evolve to a higher level of being. ;)

Agree the majority of those abandoned houses speak tones of sadness and grief through the screen. Such as horrible things that gave happened the pains if the victims, the sorrow and the unforgivable guilt of the persecutors.

Mary Monson That's interesting. I didn't know you could have such a thing available in contemporary times. That was a large bottle of arsenic just sitting out in the open. It does make for a more provocative story, people calling it the poison house.

This is a most unusual find. The original house is very old. The beams suggest 18th century or before. This style of cooking range was still in use as late as the early 1960's, after this things changed dramatically. Oddly, in this house, the "modern" hip, '60s style was just added on. They didn't remove the old stuff. The photo of the couple, they're the elderly couple, who either passed away or had to leave. They would be in their 70s by now. Its bizarre. Time waits for no one.
@sarazimmerman713

This looks like Tudor- Elizabethan construction: low ceilings, small halls, exposed beams, plaster walls. Likely the cabinets with locks are later additions- think Jane Austen. Amazing second floor. Could you open up some of your shits like you did in the one bedroom? We could see a window seat and curtains . Lovely job and so respectful.

Hi Maureno and Remon, Explomo, I hit the thumbs up button even before I had seen your video, - and after having watched it, I must say once more: It's more than justified! - it's again an excellent video from the fabulous Dutch duo, I love so much. - The house looked despite of the obvious traces of decay and the mould, still quite cozy.- The scale you pointed out is somehow familiar to me, because I have seen this kind of scales in my youth. They were actually very precise for weighing and very common. - If the cutlery Remon focussed on, is really silverware, it could be seen, if there are marks applied on the cutlery. For instance the Lion is an indicater for Scheffield 925 -er Silver. Actually in the UK there a lot of people love collecting antique silver ware as well as a lot of other antiques. - You should check an enormously popular TV-program like "Flog it" on BBC- 2 or the "Antiques Roadshow". - However thank you very much for this wonderful video. - Wishing you a lot more safe explores. Peace and lots of blessings. Kindest regards from Switzerland.

Hi guys, the item you called a fence in the fire is actually the fire basket that you lay flat and put your coal or wood on to burn then all of the ashes fell through the fire basket to below it. When someone is taken to the hospital the police are not responsible for locking the house behind them, the same is true when the door needs to be forced open if someone is in distress, or reported missing for days. 9:19 a crimp curling iron, warm the metal on the wooden stove and curl your hair, be careful not to get it too hot or it will cause the hair to fall out - commonly used from 1920's-1930's (rare). A few items in the house including the photo on the mantel was from the 1920 era. The person residing in the home was probably born in the late 1920's or early 1930's and the woman or man who died was probably in their late 80's. 12:57 I believe this is silverplate from appearance, but I would have to see the markings the box itself is rather plain and no maker label on the inside of the box lid. I prefer the crimp curling iron, too precious!

I don’t think that was sterling or even silver plate because sitting open to the air like, it would’ve tarnished… Turned black. If you look at the fine print on the back of a fork or spoon you can usually find the pattern name and sometimes maker. This is probably nice set of stainless steel. Those tong -looking things might have been hair curlers. It would’ve been heated up on a stove and then applied to the hair for curls. Would have pre-dated the couple you showed in the wedding pictures so could have been from an older relative or just a cool antique. That stove was magnificent. Thank you for taking us with you. You find such interesting places. Be careful and stay safe.… Your Virginia Granny

The trophies are from lawn bowls. Mostly older people play, but I did teach a student a few years back who was on the Australian youth team.

I think you should pull the master switch and turn off the electricity in those homes. It would be easy for the house to spark a wire for some reason and burn the place to the ground. Wires deteriorate, too.

That item in the kitchen is an old curling iron from circa 1920-1930

Do you ever wonder where and why these families just up and abanoned these homes ? Watched many of these videos and I can't phathom how all these mansions and the people who lived in them just vanished .

People die with no family. Family might not know of the death, live overseas.. or big mansions could be bankruptcy or jail time..hundreds if reasons. I doubt it’s ever just people move out and leave everything.

back in as far 1700 to 1960 houses were smaller and that was a dryer you saw.

The mystery object is an old stove heated crimping iron. They were a great way to destroy your hair.

I always wonder who pays the electric bill, the place looks quite tidy, maybe a relative or neighbour is keeping it maintained, perhaps if the probate is still going through. The machine next to the window on the table is a dryer. The pipe goes out the window when it is operating - it's actually in a very convenient position for loading and unloading clothes. That game is bowls and is very popular here in the UK. Although it's mostly played outdoors most bowls clubs have the facility to play indoors when the weather isn't so great. Both my folks played it before they passed. The absence of clothes may indicate the couple spent their last days in a nursing home.
